I have to say I don't understand the de Jong love. He has been a professional for 12 years and he has scored 16 league goals in all that time. He will also be a yellow / red card magnet.

    Each to their own.
Wikipedia serves you well, unfortunately you're talking about the wrong player.

It's Siem de Jong we're talking about not Nigel...

Ehhhhh.... As you were. Don't mind me. I was wondering why he went to Newcastle!

so many have target in their team . is he guaranteed starter?

He has started both friendlies so far. This is what Koeman said about him (courtesy of FFS) after their last friendly.

"In pre-season there are some players a little bit more in the spotlight than others, but if you look to the left side of the team with Matthew Targett and Lloyd Isgrove they were two of our youngest and they played very well today. We played with the best team that we have at this moment and that’s OK"

Hopefully he makes the place his own. I'd fear slightly that Soton will be making a couple of signings yet with all their cash, although you'd imagine a centre half would be priority.

I haven't been tinkering too much because there's still so much time to take into account. Here's my latest offering though:

    Mannone
    Debuchy Terry Shaw
    Hazard Sanchez Siggy Mata
    Dzeko Rooney Jelavic

    Subs: Krul, Targett, Widsom, Albrighton

    Changes from last draft are:

    Ramsey to Sanchez
    Eriksen to Siggy
    Wickham to Dzeko
    Silva to Mata

I think that team has good balance to it. 3 United purely because of their nice start. One of either Mata or Rooney will be out. I fancy Shaw to do well.

Re Dzeko, Aguero will struggle to be fit for the season start and Dzeko can score against anyone. He's a great finisher IMO.

I've pretty much decided on the core of my team. Solid but unspectacular and I think I have good cover from all the bigger clubs bar Liverpool. I would like to have Sturridge in there but just can't free up the cash. He may replace Rooney after a few weeks.

On this, it's a very solid team, a safe team. If I was criticising for the sake of criticising its a bit to safe! But that's probably wise till we see how things go. For example my heart says Pelle, but my head says Dzeko and that's probably much more sensible option and you've a lot of 'head' selections there.

Not personally a fan of the Mannone/Krul thing but can't question why it's popular.

I'm fairly set on going 352 initially at least, and have the same midfield 4 plus De Jong and with Bojan to your Jelavic as my third forward. Otherwise 6 of the same front 8. Obviously a cheaper defence, although still with Chelsea, Man U and Spurs. Also plan to swap out one of the United attackers soon enough.

    And so it begins...

Playing this game for 4 years and after 3 awful seasons I finally cracked the top 7% last year(I know that's not great for this forum but I was delighted) which coincided with me finding this forum so I'm hoping this fine forum can help me get even higher this year.

    cdoGdV2.png

    Teams looks like this.

I've seen a lot of people with Shaw in their team but a Guardian article gave me great hope for Evans.

"Of his defenders, Jonny Evans has impressed Van Gaal the most so far, with the manager admiring his ability to play out from the back. As the Dutchman wants to play a three centre-back system the two-footed Evans is an asset since Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are right-sided.

Ideally Van Gaal would like to pair Evans with Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen – another left-footer – and Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, who remain prime targets."

I'm pretty happy but I'd like to some feedback.

Harvey... Ozil will only be back in training 6 days before the season starts so I wouldn't start off with him

I'm pretty happy but I'd like to some feedback.

LVG has also said that Shaw needs to work on his fitness so I'd favour Evans too.

However, I can't see myself using 2 of my United players in defence. I may just start with 2 United (De Gea & Rooney) in total and then bring in a midfielder early doors. Eg Wouldn't fancy taking a Evans -> Mata hit (or FT) after a couple of weeks.
If United get off to a good start then I'd want 2 attackers.

Hmm, I'm thinking Mata or Nasri for Ozil in that case. Not sure who I'd swap out Evans for though, Spurs have some decent opening fixtures and Pochettino has a good defensive history in the PL so maybe Ben Davies at 5m?

Ramsey would be my choice for Ozil... still give you a good attacking option from Arsenal until Ozil gets back, you might even make a few quid off Ramsey's back if you were still set on bringing Ozil into your team then.

    Thoughts?

I tried my hardest to fit Sanchez in there for Ramsey, but just couldn't swing it without making my defence even worse. May try and squeeze another .5 out of somewhere to get De Gea in though.

You definitely need a goalkeeper - Fabregas can wait imo, so can Sanchez if you can't fit him in right now. Two Southampton players on a bench - why not pick someone from Huul/QPR/Stoke instead with a fairly decent fixture?

I would try to fit DeGea in (or any other decent goallie option for first few gameweeks really) - downgrade Fabregas for 1 game and see how it goes.

I can see that everyone is going for a strong midfield this season.
