Yes, But they should be reinforced with signs at the roundabout in case there is dense traffic obscuring the road markings, but in that video the markings were clear!

    That is true

I was approaching a roundabout today, and the driver behind me , who was proceeding straight ahead, moved into the right hand lane, so that he could overtake me on the roundabout. Also he didn't bother his ass indicating, either

Dash cam bit yo' ass... :pac:

That happens to me all the time at that roundabout, you wouldn't believe how often people in the left lane beep at me for cutting them off!

Yeah but good for you, you know the roundabout. It's a very badly designed roundabout as you only find out it's left turn only when it's probably too late to do much about it safely.

Roundabout : bad lane disipline by 2 drivers at the same time...

Are you referring to the bit at 0:57 where the camcar seems to understeer-oversteer-spin on the roundabout?

 Do you mean where I held my lane on a tight roundabout when all others around me didn't??

That seems to be a tight roundabout.

Why have a clip of nothing and then BAM, cut the actual worthy footage short?

Suppose I'll get a cup of tea, I see this will go down well as per usual

Would you report someone for littering from their car? their driving wasn't great either, but i only turned on the camera after they cut me off on a roundabout.
Absolutely - contact the litter warden in your local council.

    Why would you?
It has become second nature in this thread to criticize/attack a poster if the video they post isn't up to some peoples liking.
I think people have watched far too many Russian dash cams and therefore expect that in Ireland we will get the same type of driving.
    We don't.

I know the roundabout, just before Blakes cross and turning right brings you into the Tesco depot. Yes it is tight, but the limit drops to 60 after the exit for the garage because there will be quite often lorries turning a sharp right (some times from the left lane or straddling both) onto a badly constructed roundabout. So cars shouldn't find it too difficult to get around if they're going slow enough.

The OP states bad lane discipline by two drivers, fair enough. Why did he (OP) not move left after passing out the BMW, he was in the right lane, going straight on (legal yes) but why stay in the right lane. If the BMW was still beside him in the left lane, then it was bad overtaking as in not accelerating to get past him, you seemed to want him to move left judging from your proximity to him.

It also looks to me if you yourself cross over to the left lane while still on the roundabout. Corsa for me was in the wrong lane entering the roundabout, has no choice but to put two wheels on the actual roundabout. The BMW wasn't too bad, but from what I could see you again crossed lanes to avoid the roundabout itself which I personally consider bad lane discipline, better to put two wheels on the roundabout (it looks to have been designed to allow this particularly trucks).

It's a poor roundabout which when they put the proper exit onto the M1 for the heavy goods trucks will hopefully be upgraded.

Yes good video as an example of Irish drivers attitudes to roundabouts, no indication, incorrected entry and yes poor lane discipline but for me the OP also can/could be included (in my opinion) in that.

The BMW was overtaking & only held me up for a few seconds, he did however speed up after he moved into lane 1.

I could not go any faster as I would then have been breaking the Speed Limit on this stretch of road, this in turn meant I was not far enough ahead of the BMW to pull into lane 1, therefore I was stuck in Lane 2.

The part i find funny on celticbest's video is where it was pointed out that the bmw driver never indicated when changing lanes.

Rarely do I see people indicating when doing this.
Why would you expect him to?

    As for the roundabouts.
    Meh.
    happens at every roundabout.

Ok so i am turning right taking third exit and following the navy polo when this happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,618 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

That appears to me that the lane your in is for the next (4th exit) and that you're in effect exiting at the 12 o'clock position.

I think you and the polo should be in the same lane as the Avensis. I don't know the roundabout so maybe there is more to it than that.

That exit is signposted as straight ahead on the sign as you approach the roundabout.
The lane you were in was marked for right turn only.
You (and the Polo) were in the wrong lane, the Avensis was in the correct lane.

Ok, so you are going straight ahead, actually;)

Nobody died, so no harm done.

That roundabout seems typical of a few roundabouts near here that don't conform to the 4 exits separated at 90 degrees that the rules of the road chicken out with.

I've gotten the council to put exit-specific markings on the approach lanes to those roundabouts. It's improved things a bit.

A left and straight arrow at that approach in the vid is ambiguous and worse than no markings. The 2nd exit seems left of straight ahead and the 3rd exit seems right of straight. The OP wasn't necessarily in the wrong lane, nor was the Avensis.

Everyday you get idiots on this roundabout

IMHO you shouldnt take an exit from an inside lane on a roundabout (right lane) if there is any traffic in the outside lanes (left lane)... end of...take for example your typical irish roudabout with the broken white line going around it.....if you take the right lane on approach to turn right then you go directly into the inside lane. After the exit previous to yours you can make your way to the outside lane and then take the exit, if and only if its clear, otherwise you are changing lanes, just as you would be on a normal dual carriage way.

Course that doesnt stop people taking the 'racing line'...hell every morning I have people on the right lane on approach to a roundabout taking the first exit (a 90 deg left) on my way to work, just so they dont have to queue up like everyone else.....tbh i think the cops have given up warning people about it.
