Israel have stated they will not stop until 'the mission is accomplished', and the mission is to find all the tunnels.

That doesn't seem to be possible though, so this seems more like setting the stage for a long-term or perpetual war, which will either go on for a very long time, or won't stop at all.

Nobody can do anything about it - The US exercises a veto over the United Nations. There is nothing that can be done, simple. Not even an economic sanction is available.

Nothing is done because 51% of the US Population and 100% of Congress support Israel. This makes israel unstoppable, even if somebody like Kerry - secretly anti israel I think - wanted to stop it.

No western country is going to take serious actions against Israel while it is backed by the US, because that risks political/economic censure by the US, and the US is going to back Israel no matter what they do - think of it like it is the 51st US state.

Nothing will be done - they will have complete impunity, and you only really need to look at what the US did and got away with in the previous decades wars, to see that there isn't really a limit to what can be done.

I think it's really just about geopolitics - for decades the US has viewed Israel as central to its strategy to control the middle east. Keep the natives divided (and no, most of the population of Israel aren't native to the middle east). Of course the Israeli settlers and security establishment have dragged the country rather further into the inferno than the US might have wanted them to, but that doesn't change the fact that Israel is the fulcrum of American middle east policy.

Ban Ki Moon is showing serious weakness by not dropping a ton of bricks on the whole situation. immediate sanctions and peacekeepers on planes on the way.

Part of the deal to stop the Hesbullah fight in Lebanon was that the UN would send significant troops in to hold ground in Lebanon. And the UN went in with sufficient force to make a point, including main battle tanks and artillery (mainly French) for the ground, and warships (Mainly German) to interdict arms supplies, they are still there.

I can recall seeing no particular offers of a similar nature being put forward by the Western powers (Or anyone else, for that matter), for Gaza. I'm not sure how well Hamas would like Israeli warships to be replaced on blockade duty by, oh, Italian ones anyway, it achieves little for them except the removal of a cassus belli.

He has no authority to do such a thing. It has to be done through the security council. And then countries have to pony up the personnel to do it, which I don't believe he can order.

There would never be such a deal with Gaza or the West Bank though, because Israel's goal seems to be complete annexation - they don't want any deal.

The US is going to allow Israel to keep on with this slow process, permanently, and other western powers will keep in tow - just like they always have.

True but Nato was too busy killing innocents in afghanistan, and I dont know if people realise, but all bloodshed in middle east has mainly started since following:

1.Breakdown of ottoman empire after world war 1
