Who wants a brand new set of spark plugs? Giving them away for free. :)

I just sold it for 1175. How is that not cheap? Im amazed that in the €1500 range of cars that there was not much interest. But I think the Irish obsession with diesel had a major factor.

But hey, I sold it to a normal punter, not a trade guy, so I'm happy in that respect.

    and the guy pulls out..............

second guy to pull out in as many days.

I'm going looking at an 04 A4 Avant tonight. Timing belt and clutch and flywheel have been replaced but the seller was honest enough to tell me that the aircon pulley is rattling on idle. Doing a quick google it seems to be a common problem but I cant see a "fix" for it online. Anyone have any experience with an issue like this?

Your selling price may have been cheap but your asking certainly wasn't for the engine/spec combo in that car.

disagree Foxhole. €1500 for that car makes it the cheapest on there by some distance.

There are two A4's on carzone less than 2 grand. Mine and an avant (at 1999).

    There is another 4/5 2.0 petrols between 2 & 3 grand.

Have you been looking at prices on DoneDeal? I'd never use Carzone as a basis as they're generally way higher due to being from dealers.

    Here's some under 2K:

Asking bigger money but they're Avants

Not a mind there's a rake of 1.9TDi's that are more desirable than a 2.0 Petrol.

To me, a 2.0 petrol is more desirable than a TDI.

I can't see why, I like my petrols way more than I like my diesels but the 2.0 is only 135 ish HP. Most 1.9's have about the same, with a good bit more torque, cheaper tax and they can be remapped to give even more HP/Torque, same story with the 1.8T too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

The 1.8T is the most desirable one of them all. :)

No doubt, which is why I think he'll have a hard time selling a 2.0 Petrol A4 in Ireland.

    I'd rather the 2.7 biturbo.

The TDI, good as it is, is a chugging great lump of farm material. Unlike BMW who make smoother Diesel engines.
Power being the same, or even lower, I'd still have the 2.0 petrol.
It's going to have a smoother, quieter and more refined ride over the TDI and in that car, that's all you need.
It's a FWD mid sized, basic saloon. Not a RWD stomper that needs the power.

thats my car you linked to. you also linked to a 2001 at the same price with 158000 miles on the clock.
You're throwing everything in there, but if you do a like for like, its dirt cheap.

Fair enough, I didn't realise it was yours, I thought you had it up for 1600 which is what I was comparing my posts with :P. In that case what you have there is pretty cheap.

Its interesting, when I was looking at 2011 estates (and I just spent 19k), I sat into an insignia, a mondeo and a renault and they just all felt cheap. When I sit into my A4, its solid, the dash is classy, its silent, door shuts with a proper thud and there is nice sound to the engine.

    And its only worth €1200!

I genuinely think people look way too much into engines, high spec etc., its the whole package for me. Why someone would pay more than twice the price for a car that has a better engine is beyond me. At these levels, surely its more about reliability, whats on the clock, how clean the car is, how its driven.

I found it the same, when I first started to test drive E39's I found a world of difference in comparison to other modern cars our family has had between Superbs, Mondeos, Peugeots etc. The 14 year old E39 was in a completely different class.

What car did you pick up?

For me personal it's all about the drivers feel, road handling, feel back and power and that's at any price range.
I'm not the type of buyer that would be looking at your car though, it's apple and oranges.

If go basic with the best engine over high spec* with the worst engine any day of the week.

    *in relation to interior comforts.

VW Passat 2.0 SE 140bhp bluemotion.

Is it a better car than than my Audi? It has bluetooth!, but genuinely, I didnt notice a massive difference. Is it quicker? Maybe slightly, but again. Does it feel as good? yes, but not earth shatteringly.

Its nearly 16 times the price though.

Dad met with the custom boys today. Went to dip him, but the tank was so far down their pipe thing wouldn't work, so they let him off! Didn't make any difference anyway, he wasn't using green diesel.

I thought they were taking it from the engine intake end now to stop the trick of having a small container of diesel at end of the filler pipe, and a separate filler pipe in the boot to fill the actual tank?

I don't know, he said they were at the tank, I'm only going by what he said now!

So what they disconnect one of the fuel lines and do it from there? Do they make you sign a waiver?

They don't need to make you sign anything, apparently they've enough power to do what they like with your car
