Can I be the one to congratulate the very many cyclists on the main road from Enniscorthy to Wexford last Sunday, all kept in on the hard shoulder and nobody driving or cycling had any hassle.
The only problem were the 2 women jogging down the road at Ferrycarrig.Cars were having to suddenly swerve into the overtaking lane to avoid them as there's no hard shoulder - there's one at the other side of the road but why would they want to use that?

Unless the joggers were jumping out from behind bushes in order to surprise drivers there's no real excuse for suddenly swerving. The only dangerous activity I hear from your post is by the drivers.

Amended to something like would make so much more sense

TBH honest I don't know why a bell should be required. I find that my lungs combined with my vocal chords do a perfectly good job. With you on the lights though

I stand corrected. Still think there was something extra up north like all bikes need them so people in proper races even had them.

    here is the 1963 law
    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1963/en/si/0190.html
    Pedal cycles.
    93. (1) Every pedal cycle (other than a cycle constructed or adapted for use as a racing cycle) while used in a public place shall be fitted with an audible warning device consisting of a bell capable of being heard at a reasonable distance, and no other type of audible warning instrument shall be fitted to a pedal cycle while used in a public place.
So I suppose you could just argue its for racing?

Also seems other devices might be illegal on bikes, like air horns or electronic horns.

Worked for me in the Phoenix park heading our from town. "Get out of the bike lane" shouted loudly generally works for me.

Isn't there a whistler guy out there somewhere? No bell, just a lot of whistling. Like the Father Ted park ranger guy.

He narrowly misses a car but would have hit a cyclist? How big are bikes these days?

You are right there are alot of terrible road users, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

My particular dislike at the moment are cyclists who are in row of traffic stopped by traffic lights who decide to cycle along the pavement to get to the top of the queue.

More how tight the road is, he missed the car by swerving closer to the left(I say closer but there wasn't even a foot between our car and his, and there was no more left either of us could go.), it was a blind spot, he'd have whacked a cyclist, and at that speed. The cyclist would've been dead.

Yup, say it's for racing and it's fine XD ..(and considering most road bikes are racers, or a basic mountain bike, it's very easy to argue that XD..)

    And yep, horns are illegal.

Were they running towards the oncoming traffic or away (back to oncoming traffic)?
