Looking to get a used Mondeo

Basically, I have 10k to get a used car.

I was thinking about a 08 ford mondeo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You'd get a fresher Mondeo for €10k. If you did your homework you could potentially get a 2010 titanium for around that, might have to sacrifice the low mileage. You'd get a 2009 titanium no bother for that though.

Are you justifying the miileage for diesel, or is petrol the way to go?

I didn't even know there was a 'titanium' version. I don't really know what to go for to be honest. Petrol or diesel. I just want a car with a large boot & liked the look of the mondeo.

Ya specs go Lx or Edge as they can be called to Zetec to Titanium X, imports can have a Titanium spec aswell. There's a Titanium X Sport aswell, but they ain't too plentiful.

Titanium or Titanium X are the specs to go for, they have more toys and look more elegant. Even a Zetec isn't too bad, if the toys aren't on the top of your list.

Whether to go for a petrol or diesel will entirely depend on your annual mileage, you'd want to be doing around 15k miles or over to justify a diesel.

Mileage? There's no rule stating that you should change to diesel at X miles, but a diesel only starts to become economical/start saving you when you are doing high mileage. If you are from Dublin and the car will be doing short trips in stop start traffic then petrol would be the best option.

Reason I'm asking is the Mondeo is an awkward lump of a car to live with. Not an issue for some but it won't be anywhere near as manoeuvrable as the focus

To be honest, I don't really want another focus. Anything else around that price range that's a bit smaller

They are a big yoke to drive around alright. Personally I don't have any bother with mine, I can park it and drive it almost anywhere, but I can appreciate how others can feel differently. Parking sensors are a big plus though.

Can't recommend the diesel mondeo highly enough. I've an 04 admittedly on its last legs perhaps at this stage. 265k miles so far not a days trouble with it. Same clutch since new!!
Seems they loose a lot of there value from the first to the second owner which makes them a great buy secondhand.
I am looking about considering it will pack up at some stage and like the look at the titanium, very smart and price wise okay.
But for a change also looking at the insignia, Mazda 6, although the Mazda diesel seems from this forum to have a bad image.
I will shop about no doubt but I think it will be another mondeo!
You can buy my one if you like!!

You will be hard pushed to find a petrol Mondeo for sale here beyond a 2008/09, most will be diesel. Personally I would prefer the 2.0 TDCi over the older 1.8 TDCi, it has more power and more refined.

How much would a dealer usually give off the selling price of a car? I mean, am I wasting my time looking at cars that are 11k? Would they give 1k off?

Wouldn't be unheard of. Depends on how well priced the car is in the first place. Ie if its already the cheapest 2.0 titanium 2010 model around asking €11k you mightn't get anything, but if its a 1.8 LX 2008 for €11k then you'd expect/demand some leeway.

First step is figure out what the particular car is worth and go from there.

I got a 2007 mondeo with 130k miles last year for 3k, absolute bargain imo, it's in great shape, i think

A Mazda 6 petrol would be a good alternative. It's less comber some around town than the Mondeo and the Sport spec looks well and has a decent equipment level. The Mondeo is a better cruiser but there isn't a whole lot in it. They are thin on the ground post 2008 though but do pop up every so often.

I think the black one is overpriced. You can get lower specs are they are cheaper. The Executive SE is the same spec internally as the Sport on the pre-facelift cars but misses out on the 18s and tinted windows.

Brother just bought a 2011 Mondeo 2.0tdci 140bhp hatch. Beautiful engine, very refined and plenty of power.

Lovely ride and handing. Lovely gearbox and clutch. Brilliant to drive!

€280 to tax for the year and excellent on fuel.

Parents bought a Ford Mondeo NT Zetec 1.8tdi 125PS 6 Speed two weeks for 5500 euros. 2 owners (mother and son), good spec with 205,000km on it. All the belts etc were replaced in February. I drove it work twice and was a very confortable drive. Nice car.

Quick update.

I've been provisionally approved for a 10,000 loan. The car im looking at is 11,500. Or 10,500 with no trade in.

How much should I offer? Sorry for the stupid questions but I've never done this before. That's what I'm looking at. I'd like parking sensors though.

I bought a 2008 tit x last year was 8k with 130km amazing spec. Leather and alcantara heated seats, digital dash, Climate, Sensors out the ying yang ( parking) and auto lights, wipers. Lovely car to drive too and not too bad on the go go juice either. Huge boot too. Tyres are expensive though 235 40 18. For 11k you should get a very nice one. Id only change for an estate 200 tit x , Have two dogs now so....

That's an awful lot of money for a 5 year old 6 petrol, these cars are not that popular these days due to the fascination with diesel. I'd keep looking if it were me.
