If you choose to get pregnant and you choose to smoke you're a bad person. Even when my girlfriend got pregnant I switched to ecig so I wouldn't be harming the baby. She doesnt smoke and if she did she wouldn't be smoking. There's worse things to do than giving up the fags and if you give any sort of a damn about your baby you wouldn't smoke. It's a disgusting sight as is pregnant women drinking alcohol. If you cant care for the baby before he's born you're not likely to do much better afterwards

Less than the cost of a taxi to fly to England and back.

Yes that's the answer, send em over to England. Also costs at least 60quid return flight to Uk.
And it's hardly there and back on the same day.

It really isn't an option for most women. (though it should be)

A bit harsh don't you think? You know nothing about these people so branding them as "scum" is a bit low imo.

Smoking while pregnant MAKES them scum imo. It doesnt matter if they were a saint before

    Pretentious asshole snobbery:mad:

Having never been to mount carmel(a snob i am not) i was asking a genuine qs.

blowing off the fact they are smoking by claiming my concern to be nothing more than snobbery is weak imo

    Feeling guilty perhaps?

I don't think smoking during pregnancy is any worse than feeding a child to obesity.

Mothers to be putting their child in danger by smoking would classify as scum to me.

It is actually. Get to the clinic first thing. Out and on your way by early afternoon. The open Saturdays too, you don't even have to miss work.

I smoked while I was pregnant didn't do my child any harm but then I breastfed also doubt I'm "scum" . I could say the same for people who don't breastfeed but then I would probably sound like an obnoxious assh@le

How old is the child now? Would you let them smoke?

Would you let them smoke from an early age? If it did no harm then why not?

If smoking while pregnant did the child no harm why would the child smoking themselves do any harm?

You know, I never once saw either a pregnant woman or a staff member smoking outside Holles St. Not only did I attend there regularly for nine months, I also work very close to the hospital. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I can't imagine it's a regular thing.

I live beside Holles Street and pass there most days. It would be unusual that there is not a pregnant woman outside smoking in my experience.
There are normally 5-6 people smoking outside at any one time, couple of staff, couple of visitors and the women themselves.
So much so that I was actually thinking about starting a thread on this very subject in the parenting forum.

But if you let your child smoke in the womb then he might as well start smoking as soon as he can light a fag.. Sure it didn't do his developing lungs any damage , did it?
Anyway, the important thing is that you didn't have to make any sacrifices for your baby. That's the main thing.

That fact that they are smoking while pregnant propably qualifies as scum on its own merits.

Just because you breastfed it doesn't take away from the fact that your put baby's health at risk prior to that.

And unless people are substituting formula with harmful chemicals its not exactly comparable.

Yeh bottle-feeding rather than breastfeeding is definitely as bad as smoking during pregnancy...

Well then maybe all.pregnant women need to.stay indoors all day too, not fair on baby if you decide to go out and suck in all those exhaust fumes. Also no buggy for baby after he is born, buggy keeps baby at car exhaust level. Scummy of anyone to force their child to breath these toxic fumes right?
Ah here, I wouldn't call them scum either, but the above is really poor arguing and it downplays the implications of smoking while pregnant.

I wonder how many would look down on a mother having a glass of wine while pregnant, maybe a big mac, how about a fry up? Am not saying pregnant mothers should smoke and am glad my partner gave up when she found out she was expecting. I just don't see them.as scum if they are smoking.

Clarbar has thanked this..eh..I'm thinking the sarcasm may have been too much for her to take.

It's still not a genuine option unless it becomes available in Ireland.

And that's the crux of the matter, the ONLY thing you know about these women is that they are pregnant. Nothing about their home.life, how scared they are, their mental.state....all.you see is pregnant + smoking = scum.

Who says that home life mental health etc have to have anything to do with it?

Are the odd one of those as harmful as smoking regularly throughout pregnancy or something...?

How do you know it didn't do your child any harm? Maybe he/she would have had a higher IQ had you not smoked or denser bones or a slightly stronger heart or more resilient lungs of less inclined to illness or any of a thousand other things that can go slightly wrong when a baby is developing.

Fair enough you dont see them as scum and make all sorts of excuses if you like. But smoking is whole different ball game from having a big mac or a glass of red wine (not saying that is acceptable).

Smoking causes damage to unborn children. Full stop.
