"I want to thank Sir Bobby Charlton because its a great honour to come in this stadium and to be guided by Sir Bobby Charlton

"My first steps were by Bayern and Barcelona but as a trainer coach of Man Utd there were my first steps and I was very proud to do that Sir Bobby.

"I have the age to see him play so I know what he means for Man Utd and for English football and it was a great honour to do it with him."

"This is the biggest club in the world.

"I will do my utmost best and you can see what I have won. I want to show if I can do it again.

"It is the biggest club world wide but in sport you are never the biggest club be every season you have to prove, last season you were 7th so you are not the biggest club in sport.

"But well known over the world. When I was in Brazil people were talking about Manchester United. That's the difference.

"It's a lot of expectation also, but it's a great chance because of that."

like I said, who was available?

they had the greatest manager of all time, with an eye for a player and Bobby Charlton regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time who spoke with each other all the time and your trying to tell me they never spoke about the midfield area?!

there is actually a massive lack of quality players available right now with an extremely over crowded and over priced market

There many not have been many world class midfielders around , but if you look at our top 4 opposition (Top 7 now :( )

Silva, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Willian, Fabregas, Essien (at one stage) Ramsey... all of these players were bought by teams in and around us that could have bettered our team a great deal

there's multiple more examples but I've gotten lazy.

Getting world class midfielders ain't easy but some of those aren't shy of that tag, and playing in other teams.

Yes,from the start, they even had the news on at 2.55 to accommodate it!

LVG confirming that Shaw and Hererra were already on United's radar ("the list" as he said) and he gave his approval because he already knew them and liked them. Now he wants to look at the rest of the squad to see what's there and what he needs.

So in the ten years since Veron, Kleberson and Djemba Djemba, the players you referenced, in ten years there has not been a midfielder good enough to play for Manchester United?

You really, seriously are asking who was available in the last ten years, seemingly believing that there was nobody better than Anderson, Carrick, Cleverley or even the 38 year old Paul Scholes? Because if they were available we would have bought them right?

I can't believe this conversation is even happening :pac:.

    On potential MUFC captain...

"Quick decisions are not always good.

"I use my time. Captain of a team for me is very important."

    3:15 pm
    Jim Daly
"The owners were excited when I explained my philosophy and because of that I am here.

"We have to wait and see if I can fill that expectations of them and the supporters.

"The fans are very important - I know that!

"But you cannot predict - in the world of football.

"Nobody has predicted that the Dutch team came so far, nobody predicted Germany would beat Brazil 1-7."

    3:13 pm
    Jim Daly
"My moto is always the same:I want to look at the players now, present. Of course I know them how they play but I don't know the players who I have not trained and coached

"First I want to see the first three four weeks what they can do, and then maybe maybe I shall buy other players.

"The players that we have bought now - Shaw and Herrera - was already on the list.

"So I give my approval because I like them.

"But first I want to see the players performing my philosohpy."

Class of 92 - "We will find roles" -- hope they keep them around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,070 ✭✭✭yermandan

"Paul Scholes we will find a role for him and Phil Neville - that's what we want

"We have to be also possible and that we have to look at.

"It's not an easy job, we have to think about that with them personally that's why we have to wait and see."

    3:17 pm
    Jim Daly
"The owners have asked to give advice but the main project is the first team, and the first team is more short term that the youth - that's more long term.

"More or less the first year maybe two we have to separate them because now I need all my knowledge to transfer my philosophy in this selection.

"So you have to give me time to do that not only you (the press) the CEO and the owners."

we were talking about centre midfield. silva and willian are not, fernandinho is lucky he is playing beside yaya as he was poor at the world cup, we were in for essien but he chose Chelsea and we bid on fabregas last year but barca wouldn't sell and this year he wanted to live in London. Ramsey is like many other players that are hit or miss, hindsight is a great thing. Arsenal also had yaya toure but wenger didn't think he was good enough

LVG saying that he doesn't yet know what he would count as success for his first season, because he hasn't yet seen how well the players will click with his strategy. I like that, very sensible way of looking at things.

"I haven't worked with most of the players, we have to wait and see.

"It's very important that there is a 'click' between the players and the manager.

"For me the challenge is always to come first, not fourth."

    3:20 pm
    Jim Daly
    "I'm a democratic, empathetic human.

"Of course I have a strong characteristic but the other characteristics are more importnat

"That's the key of my personality."

    3:19 pm
    Jim Daly
"When you have been asked by the biggest club in the world I could not let that go.

"I've already had the No. of Spain, Germany and Holland in my eyes the four strongest competitions in the world.

"There's a Dutch journo here laughing now because he thinks the Dutch league is nothing - we have proved that in Brazil."
