Tell me a top 20-30 player in the world we've signed prior to last summer.

Veron was the exception rather than the rule

We signed many many up and coming players but never the absolute best in the world

    Ferdinand
    vidic
    evra
    van nistelrooy
    yorke

all world class players we signed just happened to be playing at smaller clubs.

Not many clubs sign absolute best in the world apart from probably Real Madrid and now PSG, city and Chelsea.

United under Ed have spent more money than I expected. I can't complain about the quality of signings.

Fellaini, Mata, Herrera and Shaw all wanted to play for Manchester United. It doesn't bother me if the transfer fees were higher than ideal, the club can afford it and it matches the ambition wanted last summer when people said United should just tell a club, I want him here is a truck if money lets get it done.

The key is the players have to want Manchester United.

Fellaini hasn't worked out, it happens, I was happy at the time of the signing. Mata is simply brilliant and was a great signing. Herrera and Shaw we will know more about soon but I was happy with how the club got those deals done.

I couldn't give a ****e about other clubs buying players that is how football works.

    Ferdinand - i'll give you
vidic - wasn't world class or a top 30 player, became that at United
    evra - as Vidic
van nistelrooy - unproven in a top league
yorke -was never world class or close to top 30, a very good striker but not close to world class

Vidic was not world class when he signed for United.

Still remins to be seen TBH, he hasnt shown the form since he signed that made him POTY with Chelsea. I do have hopes that LVG will get him to that level again tho.

None of them were world class when we signed them. They became world class and reached their potential at United though

Which is why we should continue to buy potential world class players and develop them. This is the United way.

It's too early to be definitive about Mata.

so signing an 18 year old for £29m makes you happy? are you actually serious?

the only people that should be happy are the southampton board and fans, its a crazy deal and we are the only club in the world who would actually sanction it.

i am happy we signed him as i hope he will nail down the LB position for years to come, but i think theres £12 to £15million over spend there that could and should have been spent towards a genuine top quality world class attacking player which is where our first priority should be.

Would rather a world class center half myself.

IMO our first priority should be a commanding central midfielder.

The one thing I wondered by the Kroos situation was did LVG think he would not be suited to play in the EPL,he kind of reminds me of Veron in some ways,Veron was world class CM as well but he just wasn't suited to the EPL style of play at the time.

LVG is mad in the head. But people who believe rags who say he pulled out of a deal for Kroos are even more mad in the head.

Kroos was always going to Real, dont think LVG or anyone could change that.

It's too early to be definitive about Mata.

Juan Mata is the best player at United, period. The team should be built around him.

Still cannot fcuking believe he plays for Manchester United.

It's too early to be definitive about Mata.

No it's not he didn't become poor overnight. He is a world class player who struggled in Moyes negative formations. He does his best work on the opponents edge of the box. With United's negativity he was dropping back so deep he was no as effective. I expect Kagawa and Rooney to improve also under more positive tactics.

So when's the first presser with our new overlord happening?

Tony Kross is too good a footballer to not be suited anywhere. the man is the best midfielder in the world IMO and a different player to Veron.

if we could have signed him, it would have turned us into title contenders in an instant, he is that good.

£26million for him is as good a deal as you can get, in fact its insane how good it is.

It is the United way but football has moved on. If your rivals are buying in world class players you are going to fall behind if your buying potential world class players. United have the money and need two or three world class signings to compete.

So we're back to doom and gloom again so?

Feck it anyway....it was such a pleasant place to drop in on the last while.

I read that Jamie Jackson dudes article on LVGs first day....good god these lads are so full of sh!te....the amount of conclusions drawn and suggestions made without one shred of hard evidence, not one quote...he reckons Smalling could be used as a makeweight for Vermaelen...obviously just made it up like, it's not like we have centre backs to be off-loading...he reckoned LVG was paying particular attention to Cleverley and other lads who's contracts are running down.... I nearly get sick all over the office desk when I read the stuff these guys spout.

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/16/louis-van-gaal-flies-in-mark-manchester-united

On the whole Vidal thing that there was a bit of a meltdown about yesterday, I believe it may or may not happen, it's more likely to not....however, nothing that happened yesterday made it any more or less likely to happen than it was the day before.

'Club president in star player sale rebuttal shocker.....'

Jamie Jackson was retweeting abuse he received.
I found it interesting he ignored my tweet to him saying it was not his fault if United have stopped the leaks and journalists are left to speculate.
I think this is the case.

El Mercurio which I see is the oldest newspaper in Chile and with a good reputation, did 4 pages on Vidal to United yesterday.
They are going with the angle that it is Vidal's knee injury and how it is now that is the issue. They contacted the Juve doctor who said they don't know as they received no report from the Chile team's doctors, and they should contact them.
Some speculation is he came back too soon after the operation, but no one knows as the Chile team doctors have gone silent.

Given Vidal referred to united as an 'option' and one of the biggest teams in the world.
I wouldn't bet against Vidal moving. If Juve need the money, Vidal wants the move and if his injury isn't an issue, then it will happen in my opinion.

Varane being linked to us now:rolleyes:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

How fecking awesome would this be?

    http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/varane-keen-on-manchester-united-move-as-club-start-talks-with-ag
The French football magazine state that Manchester United are so keen they've contacted the entourage of Varane to ask about a transfer. Louis van Gaal's club have 'clearly signified' their interest in signing the player this summer and wanted to know what the Varane camp felt about the situation. There's little point in continuing with interest in a player if he has no intention of joining.

    More on the link.

Aye we do need two or three good signings to be recognised as title contenders again and I feel who will sign one more CM and I be happy with it to be honest.

Can't see the three of them improving as they all are best in more or less the same position.

Would be unreal, I'd actually be happier with him than Hummels.

    Can't see it though :(

I like the new shirt after trying it on yesterday but, as other said, it's a slim fit.

The L is like a bag on me but the medium is pretty good. I'm trying to shift another 2kg so M will be fine...first time I am considering a home kit for 3 years.

Fair point i just think all three will benefit from more positive tactics. Rooney still scores and assists a high amount despite spending the majority of games chasing back into his own half. i can only imagine the damage he will do with better support from cm.
