Sexist advert

This has got to be the most patronizing, sexist advert I've ever seen. There is so much wrong with it, I don't even know where to begin, cheap stereotypes, tired clichés and Katie Taylor with a worryingly glazed expression on her face.

If I was a female, I would find this highly insulting as both my mother and sister did.

People of AH what do you think?

Katie Taylor looks and sounds like she's stoned or brain damaged or something.

How did your mam and sister see this, have you a telly in the kitchen?

After driving for 12 years in multiple countries and multiple vehicles from my own experience I can say that the worst drivers out there are Asians, old men and middle aged women.

    She didn't even say Mass.

Imagine trying to get insurance as an old, middle aged, Asian man-woman.

Seriously sexist ad, yes. Irish ads in particular can be the absolute pits sometimes. This is a prime example.

I think the way they bulldozed Katie, Rio and the gold medal into the narrative was really brazilliant.

    Good joke, poor delivery.

I deleted it because I knew you'd take it like that :D I meant about the "sexism". I don't particularly give a shít about it. Its not something I'd notice or be bothered by when seeing those types of adds.

That can't be a real ad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭Jimoslimos

"Cheerio to cliché...so long to stereotype"

followed by how women can drive in "challenging footwear" and "aren't afraid to ask for directions". The mind boggles

As for KT, was that really the best take? I mean I know sportspeople aren't always naturals in front of the camera. Should have limited her lines in that case. Ad is a car crash (no pun intended) because of her input.

I think the real issue here is that the ad was approved. Companies often make ads that never make it to air, look on Youtube you can find thousands of them but who in the name of God would approve that to be shown on a national broadcaster?

It actually is. Saw it on TV on Friday.

Ad is doing it's job, people are talking about it.

For the wrong reasons. If you feel insulted by that ad you're not going to be contacting them for a quote are you? It's nearly as bad as the no nonsense ads.

sexism in the media is ok as long as its aimed at men

Don't know really. Someone in the company probably took on the job rather than hire a director thinking women talking shíte to the tune of a ukulele can't be that hard to make. But tbh this ad doesn't seem too far below par for shít ads. Plenty do make it to air.

Shoes and handbags should be banned from ads that aren't specifically about shoes and handbags! I don't know what the brainstorming sessions must be like "we're making an ad for women, it's about car insurance/tea/air freshener...fúckit, take the piss out of men, mention shoes, they're pure mad for shoes. Ok that's lunch"

But who makes these ads? Is advertising an exclusively female business?

Advertising and architecture are two lines of work that baffle me, seeing some of the output. Do people get taught to make truly sh*tty ads and design buildings that look like gik?

God be with the days of Mike Brady and his one design fits all method (joke for old people).

Germaine Greer must be bursting with pride.

Makes a change from hubris I suppose.

AH response: Remember lads, women, they're just better than us... :/

    Massive rant about everyone redacted.
Long story short every one sucks.

They're all smug cows. These women should be in IKEA righting a wrong. You've so many kitchens there and not one sandwich being made made.
