One new programme this week, but fans of repeats are well catered for too

    Friday BBC4

    8.30pm & 2.25am Sounds of the Eighties
Showcasing a selection of musical performances from the BBC archives, featuring Depeche Mode, the Human League, Soft Cell, Yazoo, New Order, Bronski Beat, Pet Shop Boys and Erasure. First shown in February 1996

9pm & 12.25am - New! New! New! Britain's Most Dangerous Songs: Listen to the Banned
The stories of 10 songs, dating from the 1930s to the present day, that were considered unsuitable by the BBC for broadcasting on its radio and television stations. Tunes include Lola by the Kinks, Jackie by Scott Walker and (We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang by Heaven 17, though it is perhaps surprising that Bing Crosby and the Munchkins are among the other performers on the list. The reasons why these records were censored reveals much of the changing controversies around youth culture. Contributors include Carrie Grant, Paul Morley, Stuart Maconie, Glen Matlock, Mike Read and Jon Robb

10pm & 1.25am - More Dangerous Songs: And the Banned Played On
A compilation of songs that have previously been banned by the BBC, including Lola by rockers the Kinks, singer-songwriter Scott Walker's Jackie and (We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang by synthpop band Heaven 17

    11pm - Film: A Hard Days Night
The Beatles, harassed by their manager and Paul's grandfather, embark on a train journey to London for a TV show, but find themselves dogged by all manner of problems, including the inevitable overexcited fans. Musical comedy, starring the Fab Four alongside Wilfrid Brambell, Victor Spinetti and Anna Quayle. Songs include Can't Buy Me Love, Don't Bother Me and the title track

2.55am - Even More Guitar Heroes at the BBC
Archive performances of the most iconic artists and bands from the 1960s and 1970s, featuring Pictures of Matchstick Men by Status Quo, the Who's single Long Live Rock, Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits and Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic Sweet Home Alabama. Plus, rare clips of George Benson, Leo Kottke, Link Wray and Tom Petty

    Saturday BBC4

10.55pm - Imagine - Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train a Comin'
Alan Yentob profiles the American guitarist who enjoyed just four years of mainstream exposure in the late 1960s, but who lives on thanks to his influential music. Jimi Hendrix was a true original, a former private in the 101st Airborne who famously found an audience when former Animals bass player Chas Chandler discovered him and brought him over to the UK. He revolutionised the music scene and pushed his musical gifts to their extremes to become arguably the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Bob Smeaton's film features never-before-seen performance footage, home movies and family letters, as well as contributions by the Hendrix family, Paul McCartney and former bandmates Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell

12.25am - Guitar Heroes at the BBC
Archive performances by celebrated musicians Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Peter Green and Johnny Winter. Other artists featured include Manitas de Plata, Ry Cooder, Thin Lizzy and AC/DC, while Fleetwood Mac's Albatross and In the City by the Jam are among the classic songs seen again in clips from the BBC's 1970s music shows

    1.25am - Top of The Pops 1979
Peter Powell presents an edition first broadcast on August 2, 1979. Featuring performances by Sham 69, Olympic Runners, Abba, the Korgis, BA Robertson, Dave Edmunds, Sparks, Specials, Darts, the Boomtown Rats and the Gibson Brothers. Plus, dance sequences by Legs & Co

BBC Three at T in The Park
Coverage across the weekend on BBC Three including

Friday: Ellie Goulding, Biffy Clyro, Ed Sheeran

Saturday: John Newman, Katy B, Pharrell Williams, Rudimental, Paolo Nutini

Sunday: Bastille, Sam Smith, Tinie Tempah, Jake Bugg, Arctic Monkeys, Example

That's about it, I can't see many new music films this weekend, so here's Men of Harlech from Zulu instead (Film 4, Saturday 3pm). And if you can get BBC Wales, there's a Charlotte Church documentary on Saturday evening.

    Nos dda!

And will the one and only Richie Kavanagh make his BBC Four debut, to talk about the 'suggestive' lyrics of 'Aon Focal Eile'?

    :D

    :D

    I hope so!
Richie Kavanagh’s folky Aon Focal Eile was banned because the first syllable of “focal” – Celtic for “word” – was considered to sound too much like “f***

I wonder how did Yazoo feel when the Flying Pickets removed their vocals and keyboards, and got a Christmas number one?

It's a cruel cruel World sometimes.
