Philip Cairns was only 13 when he was kidnapped in 1986, that was 27 years ago and I was 10 at the time when the case was all over the news.

I was at his father's funeral this morning. Philip Sr. Very sad. At least that man's days of wondering are done.

    RIP.

I'm surprised to learn there have been no kidnappings of children in Ireland in the last 50 odd years. That's good news I suppose although from a few stories on here it wasn't for the want of trying.

I remember when I was very small me and my family went to this party that was full of complete strangers as well as relations... Me being young I wandered around the place but got lost in the house... I started panicking and began to cry and eventually a woman found me and held my hand...

I stopped crying and felt okay but was still panicky around this woman so I rebelled kicking, crying and screaming so the woman grabbed me amd walked me quickly away...even in my young age I thought I was f*cked...eventually I am handed over to my mother... The woman was my aunt :o I was a f*cking idiot of a child :pac:

Yeah when I was about 11.
Posted about it in the creepy and unnerving things thread.

Was on my bike in my estate and there was a bald man creeping along behind me in a red Rover car.
    He was staring at me.
I got freaked and cycled off as fast as I could. Got to the other side of the estate and went to slow down and realised he was creeping behind me again, still staring at me. I was cycling on the path the whole time so it's not like I was in his way.
I immediately did a u-turn and flew back around the corner and down a Lane way which ran parallel to the road I was just on.
Got half down and looked back. Saw the car quickly leaving the estate.

Told my friends mother a few minutes later and she didn't believe me. Didn't tell my parents incase they didn't believe me either.

not kidnapped but a priest driving by stopped to ask myself and a friend (we were about 8) where the parochial house was, he was new to the area and when we pointed him in the general direction, he followed up by asking would we like to get in the car and show him. he offered us peanuts. he had hundreds and hundreds of peanuts, the little packets that you'd find in the pub on the backing card, he just had a whole rack of them and offered us a pack each. My friend being the dope she is went to hop in the car til I dragged her back and curtly told him no.
He was the local parish priest for about ten years after that, always figured he was a bit of a creep. Often saw him in the local pub, surrounded by equally creepy younger lads who appeared to be his best friend. Creeps

About 13 years ago my mother had to go to the dentist and she left me in the back of the car because she was only dropping off a letter or something . Two people robbed the car and were searching the front of the car in a hurry . They had flash lights as it was at night . They looked back at me but the back doors were locked and then they ran away . Still remember jt lucidly to this day. Scared the shït out of me too. Don't think i was going to be kidnapped but the unnerving thing is they could have if they wanted to because I was helpless and only 4 or 5.

11 years old on bikes are quicker the dodgy bald men on foot.

(He wasn't going to leave the comfort-zone of his car from which he could make a quick getaway.)

Is it just me or is it really weird that so many people on here have a story about an attempted kidnapping?

My little Bro was thrown into the boot of a car on front of me when he was 7/8, I was about 13. It was snowing, we were on the field and next thing a car comes plowing down the road, 4 big northern lads jumped out of the car lifted him up and into the boot. There were about 15 of us there but all them ran away. All I could do was run over to the car, screaming blue murder, as they were reversing I picked up part of a broken kerb and threw it at the car. They stopped, jumped out and beat the crap out of me. After a few mins one of the lads stopped the others kicking me (at this point I was curled up in a ball on the snow) pushed them away, he ran over to the boot and let my Bro out and actually came back and apologised to me.
I grabbed him and ran to the closest house and had them ring the guards. Nothing was ever done about it because it was a northern reg. To this day that reg is etched into my memory.

Those kind of things happens much more often than the public is aware.

I had a pretty active imagination as a kid so I'm surprised nobody attempted to kidnap me like the rest of you guys.

When I was learning to drive, or getting the hang of it, I drove my dad's car around a bit and was in a quiet industrial estate which people can walk through, I had passed two children but had been paying no real attention as to who was around and decided to pull in and practice my u-turn. It was only when I nearly had it completed I noticed two girls that had been walking in my direction doing a u-turn themselves and legging it!!

A stranger gave me a KitKat but that was all they did. I must have been an ugly child. :(

Re the skeptics: hundreds of thousands of people go onto Boards. The number of posts to this thread overall aren't that many, and fewer again are posts about attempted or seemingly attempted kidnappings.
There was a man in a white van outside my house once. Odds are it was a kidnapper.
Particularly if you live in Balbriggan. Those white vans always seem to be up that way.

Facebook is a leading cause of white vans.

There's a lot to be said about our parents drumming into us not to engage with strangers.
I only remember freaky phone-calls when I was about 10. Some weirdo may have been just scouring through the phone-book and picked our house randomly. I answered the phone and he asked me my name and then said he was doing a medical survey over the phone, as instructed by schools in the area  (on a Sunday evening during the summer holidays). I, in my innocence, happily went along with him and started to answer his questions. My mother... never seen her leap so high, grabbed the phone and said "Who is this?!" and the line went dead.
Next day he rang back, probably chancing no parent being around - the predatory ****. Scared me.
