Alexander Shumsky, writing for Christian website Russian People’s Line, claimed that non-black boots are a symbol of the “gay rainbow” or being feminine in some way - and thus a "homosexual abomination".

He declared: "Wearing pink or blue shoes, [the squad] might as well wear women’s knickers or a bra.

The liberal ideology of globalism clearly wants to oppose Christianity with football. I’m sure of it.

Therefore I am glad that the Russian players have failed and, by the grace of God, no longer participate in this homosexual abomination."

Many years ago now, when I was just a lad, Craig Johnston brought out a football boot called The Predator. I used them for around five months and thought they were great and then one night, about twenty minutes into the game, I started screaming at one of my teammates 'What happened to you? You used to be someone I could trust' and when one of the opposing team's players hurt his knee, I said 'If it bleeds, we can kill it' right to his face. At the end, when the ref blew the whistle, I ran off shouting 'Get to the chopper'. Was sectioned not long after that. It was the boots though man, I'm telling ya.
