    Or????

Oh yeah...never considered that alternative. Your story checks out then in that case, nevermind.

Wait, so if you were 12 in 2001 that would make you 24 now, and given that Luke is now 11 then that would mean you were only 13 when you had Luke.

That can only mean one thing.....

    Luke, you're adopted.

Or Maurice Pratt says "Luke, I am your father":eek:

Luckily we didn't have any tapas bars in Wexford when I was a nipper.

I once ran away from home when I was 2 or 3. After some frantic searching, my parents found me in the bar of a nearby hotel, propped up on a stool and happily slurping some Fanta some stranger had bought me. Kinda weird looking back on it...

Twas a lucky escape.... I nearly took him for all the Fanta he was worth.

My neighbour's creepy grandad offered me his watch if I'd go for a drive with him when I was a kid. Thankfully I wasn't very materialistic so said no. Found out later he'd tried it on with a load of the other young girls on the road. I thought I was special. :(

Yep. I'd have been the only kid on the block with a genuine Bolex. :D

nevermind, looked up quinnsworth and misread the founded year as 1996 instead of 1966. The darth vader theory is still highly probable though ;)

Like a few stories on here, I was very lucky. At about 2 years old I was in my aunts house being babysat and somehow slipped out of the house and wandered up onto a main road. A lorry driver spotted a wee woolly headed toddler wearing red slippers walking alone on the dangerous N2 and stopped and took me up to a neighbours house. They rightly guessed where I had come from and I was safely returned.

    Very lucky really.

While not being kidnapped I had a very lucky escape from a peadophile priest. I used to hang out at the kinda youth centre he ran and he used to give me money and chocolate bars and would make you sit on his knee and he would kiss your cheek. I would always get the money/bar and leg it.

Turns out some were not so lucky.

I'm glad the thread title say's 'nearly kidnapped' because as far as I know there has been no recorded case of actual kidnapping, (of children that is), in Ireland in the past 50 years apart from abduction by family members.
    Does Philip Cairns not count?

He wasn't kidnapped because their is no proof!

I'm surprised to learn there have been no kidnappings of children in Ireland in the last 50 odd years. That's good news I suppose although from a few stories on here it wasn't for the want of trying.

In the early seventies I was walking back from school one evening along Dublin Road from Athy. A car pulled up, yellow Fiat 131 or similar and a man (30ish respectable looking) offered me a lift home and opened the passenger door, I hesitated, he then said he knew my parents. The reason I didn't take the lift was that I was almost outside my house at that time and said that to him - thought it strange if he knew my parents why did he not know where our house was! Then he offered sweets but I was moving away from him at that stage. I described him and the car to my parents but they had no idea of who he was. Thank God I wasn't a bit further away from home at the time or I would have taken the lift.

When I was about 12 I was outside my house playing swingball, I could hear a car driving up our country road very slowly. When the car got closer to me it stopped and my a man got out and he went to climb over our garden hedge. I ran away into my house and he sped away.

    Anyone have a similar experience?[/

I was nearly forced in a car by two men when I was about 12. The - really ridiculous thing - that saved me was a horrible noise that came from behind a hedge. It made the men sped away in the car. Turned out it were two cats getting in a fight.

I was almost sexually molested as a child by an older boy, I was about 10, on my way home from the shops one day I was cutting through the local park, it was always busy and full of people and all the kids did it in the 80's, so thought nothing of it. A boy of about 15 stoppped me, and asked me was I the sister of a neighbour, to which I said no, but she is my friend, so he goes "ah yeah I know her, I know her brothers" and then says to me "I will walk you...ah look you have a sore leg". I had a scabby knee, as most ten yr olds do...he started squeezing it and saying "ah i'll make it better....come on over here with me" and starts nodding in the direction of the local football club changing rooms. I started to bawl my eyes out, I felt something was just wrong and I instinctively knew he wasn't going to do me any good. He panicked and started saying "stop crying, I'll leave you alone" and ran off. I was a cry baby of a kid, and it probably saved my life, or at least saved me a heck of a trauma. 100% true story...when i got home I ran up to the bathroom and started bawling again, I felt dirty and like it was my fault. Older sibling heard me and started knocking on the door, asking what was up, I told her I fell on the way home and it hurt...and never told anyone for another 15 or 20 years and I don't know why, but I felt like it was a dirty secret I had to keep.

In Tenerife as a kid about 8/9, was walking with my dad around a main plaza area, my dad had a tendancy to walk too fast. Next thing one of a bunch of big mommas of west African origin in full traditional garb took me by the hand and tried to walk off with me.

A shy pale golden haired boy I was, lucky my dad turned around just in time.

My dearest daddy wasn't happy with the access arranged by the court. He popped around to the flat one day when mam and my aunt were trying to carry the buggy up the stairs, it being one of those ****ty flats with no lift.

He went to help and then grabbed me and made a run for it, except I was wrapped up on the straps. I'll always remember my mam retelling the story and mentioning that he used to always take the piss out of her prized Doc Martin boots and that he didn't have much to say about them that day, such was the kicking he got from the two women.

I don't think I was ever targeted ( not popular enough ), but I posted this story on another thread a while back about my sister, circa 2004/5:

When I was around 9 or 10, we used to make regular family shopping trips to the Pavilions in Swords, which I always enjoyed (at least until I got tired). One time my parents were in Dunnes, they had had to go back in and get more groceries they had forgotten, or something. Anyway, I was left waiting outside with my brother, who was 5 or 6, and my sister, who was then only about 3 months , if even, and in her carry-tot. We were grand, little bit bored, but I kept an eye on the two of them for the few minutes my parents were in the shop. Suddenly this middle-aged woman comes walking in our direction, and she had her gaze fixed on my sister's carry-tot, and suddenly she turned the other direction sharpish, as if she had only noticed that I was with her. A few minutes later she came up to us again, and this time she spoke to us, telling myself and my brother to leave the baby there with her while we went into the shop and found our parents. I said no, it's fine, our parents would be out in a few minutes, we're fine waiting. She kept trying to convince us to leave my baby sister with her. Eventually she walked away, but kept glancing in our direction, more specifically, at my sister, from a distance. It was only when I recounted the story to my mam last year that she was freaked out by it.

Might possibly have been some over protective woman, but I was glad I stuck to my guns, even my dopey 9 year old self sensed something was a little off about her.

When my friend and I were about 9 or 10 we were roller blading around our road. This van had been driving around the area for about an hour just watching us. Suddenly two men jumped out and ran towards us. We legged it across the green (while trying not to break our necks on roller blades) and ran to our neighbours front door. I think when they saw that we weren't going to go with them without a fight, they gave up and went on their way. Still gives me chills to this day. I can still remember what the guys were wearing and what their faces looked like as if it was yesterday.
