doesn't get the go ahead for a concert that's going to effect us.

You over emphasize the word concert, in fact that's not what business hear, they hear a blockage or obstruction to multi-million dollar business.

It actually does not matter what Garth is or wants to do, like Intel are wondering if they'll even propose an expansion to their plans in fear of rejection ~ that's the point.

The country is in safe hands with these people looking out for us, and not their own bank accounts. The amount of fordners coming over has also increased to 90,000 somehow.
    Put your country first

I wish it were so. We can't agree, I see a serious business fallout over this Internationally. You see a dung heap.

Maybe we are not so far apart after all./

I'm actually quite worried now that if gigs don't go ahead, there'll be a mass taking of cyanide pills.
Laxatives surely, to get all those turds on the resident's gardens.

Can you provide one link, just one to any business threatening to stop inward investment to Ireland due to Garth Brooks being refused a licence to play 2 concerts.

If the hoteliers are concerned with putting their "country first" they should make available accommodation for all the people living in the affected areas. That would allow the pubs and restaurants to make their money...for the good of the country.
What, no hotels ready to take one for the team?

No one will ever know. Decisions are made in board rooms and negative decisions are never revealed except to other board members and executives.

To understand business and how it works, one needs to read the unpublished trade magazines that circulate only within business. Breakfast meeting and economic forums are also a good barometer of the next decade and they typically give business a two year lead in of ramifications from a variety of reasons.

Bloody scaremongering - pity the vintners aren't willing to take one for the country instead.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Ireland has already lost.

Aiken DCC and the GAA have fudged up and should be held accountable in some way.

    FYP.

Aiken had no agreement with any residents - that was the GAA and DDC, both of whom are still in contravention of that agreement. I fail to understand how DCC refuse two concerts yet still allow 3 to go ahead. They're basically saying that they can break their own rules 'just a little bit'. It should be all or nothing IMO.

First day the GAA should have said 'Sorry Mr Aiken, no can do...' Barring that the DCC should have said 'Sorry Mr GAA and Mr Aiken, no can do....' This would have allowed Aikens to suss out another venue from the outset and I'm pretty sure his nose wouldn't have been too far out of joint. DCC should have been on to him at the first inkling of a concert, long before any licence application. It's not like it was a secret event that was under the radar. To accept his licence application was obviously giving him hope when it should never have been considered in the first place. How can they give consideration to something that blatantly breaches their own rules/agreements?

The people who knew most about feelings among residents where the promoter and the GAA, I think they knew very well what would happen...first 3 then 5, then the very late application. Stinks to high heaven imo.

Anyone recall FF's Chrissie Ahern creating a stir about Prince doing a gig in Cork circa 1990? IIRC, mind, the concerns were more about the purple one's lyrical content...

You are very witty sir, indeed it is the clause that is the stumbling block, however, Santa Claus answers letters from children and grants their requests with a little assistance from the child's parents.

Can't argue with that, Aiken says he got no such affirmations.

He either should have or given the blanket go ahead or told three and no more. But he was given none of that.

DCC dispute that. They claim he was told on numerous occasions that they has a problem with there being 5 gigs planned. However they can't officially do anything until the formal application is lodged.

Of course hoteliers are concerned about putting the country first. Hotels in the area would never think of doubling or tripling their prices on concerts nights.

They could turn it into a car park etc

Ah, that's crazy talk. They should turn it into the Garth Brooks International Airport specializing in admitting American tourists that had forgotten their passports.

Then all of the posters here that were asking 'would the residents complain about planes if they were living beside an airport' would be able to ask 'would they complain about gigs if they lived beside a stadium' when the people just outside the one square mile come out to complain about the airport being built.

The fact that tickets can be legally sold for concerts which have not yet being licenced, is the biggest laugh of all and is without question, something that needs to change as rapidly as possible, so that this kind of debacle never occurs again.
Why should the law change, it already prohibits promoting events (selling tickets included) without a licence granted (not just applied for)?
What needs to change is how this law is systematically ignored by both sides, the organisers/promoters and the authorities. At least now it seems that process has started.

You mean the planning permission that was granted 18 months ago for an additional 40 ha?

The same permission for the new fab which is almost built and is currently having all the manufacturing tools installed and qualified.

    Do try again ....

That would be absolutely fantastic, helicopters and VTOALs would be a sight to see, brilliant idea, I second this motion.

On a side note as example, the Kinsale Golf Club had to have it's helicopter patrons take a sea route because the low flying helicopters were blamed for putting local cattle off their milk.

We will think of an objection, be dammed what it is. :)
