Doctors seem to think we need think we need it.
In Utah of all places, a republican governor decided that all state employees should work 4 days at 10 hours per day. The state makes savings because it's only active four days a week and all the staff get an extra day off.

I'm actually working a 4 day week at the moment. I was working 5 x 8 but I negotiated a change to to 4 x 10. I arrive an hour earlier than everyone and leave an hour later. I can actually attend a fulltime postgrad and work fulltime because of it. I'm dreading going back to 5 days a week after the summer.

So, would you be up for it? I'd be favour of our government shutting down some departments for an extra day.

Nope. If anything we should be working six day weeks to help rebuild our economy. Besides, I don't fancy a 20% pay cut.

Well, I certainly wouldn't be against it

I did a four day week years ago, and loved it. To be be fair I usually work 8.30am to 6 or 6.30 now, so the powers that be would lose out on my 'free' overtime, but I would definitely consider a four day week job if I could find one

the Utah example is 4 x ten hour days rather than 8 x five hour days so the pay would be the same. That's what i work right now. It's 7am -5:30pm and I have three days a week off.

    If i could afford a 20% pay cut I'd prefer to do 4 x 8, but I can't afford it.

8 x five hour days per week would be a bitch

Knock yourself out. If you need any help, I'm good to go on Tuesdays, Weds, thurs and Fri.

Also, 4*10 as opposed to 5*8 does not equate to a pay cut, but I'm guessing you'll be too busy "rebuilding" to care.

I worked a total of 4 days last month for a full salary..... I would recommend it to everyone :)

Would love to do it. Woman in the office does it and it seems great, although she tried to go on a three day week but the department were having none of it.

I work six days a week just to keep up with rent, bills and food for 3 of us in the house. 4 days a week would leave me and my family homeless and hungry so no thanks. I'm fine with one day off a week

Yeah I understand what you mean. Anyway no I wouldn't like it. I prefer to spread my hours out over the week.

So you're only working a three day week?

People are missing the point. You still work the same hours total so wages are the same. Instead you take 1 day, split the number of hours by 4 and put them on the other 4 days you work.

I would be all for it. I would even take a paycut to just work 30-32 hours.

6 days a week for all civil servants to increase productivity, 8 to 8 weekdays and 9-6 on Saturday.

At least making some attempt at reading something before jumping in with daft ideas would help a bit more - if you carry on in real life like that post its no wonder its fcked

    4 x 10 = 40

    5 x 8 = 40

I've done a four-day-week before. It was eleven hours per day, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. It was nice having two days off during the week, but I never liked working Saturdays, and I absolutely hated never having two days off in succession.

Some of the employees where I work now do this. I'd love to have the opportunity to work a four day week. Any day off work is a good day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,360 ✭✭✭Wompa1

Wouldn't make much of a difference to me. I work a lot of overtime, including weekends so it would just be another day that I work and don't get paid extra for..

Eh, it's the same amount of hours, over 4 days instead of 5...

    Something about sandwiches

I've also seen a 9 day fortnight where you work an extra hour over the course of 2 weeks and then u get every second Friday off.

My college at the moment is a four day week to accommodate a different course which takes over the building on Fridays. I'd absolutely do four ridiculously long days if it means that extra day off, sure. Think if I was working full time I'd prefer Mondays off to Fridays though
