    they broke no law

Surely the law would only be broken if the gig went ahead without a licence?

Serously? You do realize flights land at Dublin at ALL hours of the night up until about 3 or 4am before they resume at about 6am

Land yes, but how many take off in the middle of the night from Dublin Airport.

Build a state of the art stadium valued at €4/500m and then agree to host only 3 events a year.

Only in Ireland would you hear of it.

An additional 5 nights a year isn't much to ask and the positives of it far outweighs the negatives.
It isn't much to ask of you (in Galway) or me (in Cork).
But when they had an agreed 3 concert limit, surely you can that they were taking the piss by arranging another 5 without some sort of agreement first.

I really feel for those who (innocently) had a great night and possibly a few nights planned for this.

And as for those travelling from abroad, well it's easier to cancel a hotel, than it is for a flight.

Too late to decide on this.

    That is the problem.

Less of a residential area. More space to disperse properly. Less noise issues as Croke Park measures 16 acres, Marlay Park measures 298 acres.

Yea but people living beside marlay park wouldnt be expecting disruption where as someone living next to croke park which is one of the biggest stadiums in europe must be expecting disruption

    Yes they did.

They promoted the concerts without having a license.

    That is breaking the law.

Where are you pulling this from?

That means every gig is breaking the law. Maybe they are but if so what law is it, I'd like to read it can you link me.

Right so because a few nights of music a year inconveniences some residents we should let a venue that cost hundreds of mullions sit empty for most of the year. Maybe I should be protesting the Galway United games that happen every other week as I can hear the noise from my house or should I have protested the Connaught rugby games that happened up the road from my last house as people parked all over the place and the noise went on till late in the night.

Out of the 365 days in the year the residents only want it to be used 3 nights a year for music. That just sounds ridiculous when you think about it, world class venue but we can't use it as residents who chose to live beside it will get upset.

nobody should be subjected to even 2 minutes of garth brooks, never mind 5 nights, but that aside, if it was "all about the fans" he'd do a matinee on 2 of the 3 granted days, and have tickets from the other 2 valid for that.
    Won't though.

I think two matinees is a brilliant idea.

Fcuking wankrs saying the €500,000 will softing the blow, yeah that sounds great except tgat works out at €18 a house compared with the €30,000 devalue of the house

I think this is exactly my point. How often have we heard that stadia all over the world, for Olympics, world cup etc will become white elephants? Most residents who live in the area of CP knew what they were buying into. Opportunity

If a resident was asked to give a list of reasons for buying there... truthfully how many of them would have had... Its close to Croker.. in their top five reasons for purchasing? Truthfully? Most I would say/

Marlay Park is out in the suburbs and while the gigs cause a bit of traffic on the night there isn't entire streets closed off where residents can't get in and out for hours on end. There also hasn't been 5 nights in a row as far as I know.

Not 5in a row. But 8in 3weeks and 3in a row. Agree not same level of disruption but residents in marlay would be expecting disruption the same that residents would next to croke park one of europes biggest stadiums

Expect disruption during the day for sports events, yes, which is the purpose of a sports stadium. Not for gigs to make everyone involved $$$. Houses there long before Croker started to branch out to being a multi-purpose stadium.

None of these people were living there before Croke Park existed, surely they knew that there were going to be busy days? I understand that "it's not what they signed up for" but surely they'll benefit more in the long run!

I thought that Croke Park was used as a venue for well over 100 years. Granted it wasn't the stadium it is not but it would make seem that events have been taking place there longer than any of the residents have been alive.

The Residents are just being NIMBY's. Yes the Planning may state that but the fact is that over 400,000 tickets have been sold and and around 1 in 8 people living on Irish soil have made plans for the event. The proper thing would be to allow it proceed and then ensure that a repeat of 5 nights in a row doesn't happen again.

Oh and just before people go defending the residents, remember it is an inner city location and I myself have no particular appreciation for the sort of demograph which lives within the vicinity of Croke Park. These people living nearby get tickets and these are people feeding the scalpers and touts many of the touts are these people. I have no love loss for them anyway and if it were upto me I'd throw on a few more Garth Brooks concerts and a few Fr. Fintan Stack Jungle Music gigs just to entertain the begrudgers even more.

I'm sure the fine people of Dublin 4 would have no objections if it was 5 nights in the Aviva, they'd be capitalizing and making money out of it.

Yea, cos it just sits there ideal and unused for the other 362 days of the year. :pac:

Out of interest how many are original residents (If even any) and how many are people that bought a house knowing there was a stadium next to it. That without to much of a stretch of the imagination would hold concerts just like every other stadium world wide. You would swear concerts in stadiums was only invented this year.

Is that the argument you want to go out on?

    Pot, kettle etc.

And are you confused as to how the quote function works? That's not MY argument, I was forwarding a quote that an overseas visitor for the gigs posted in the Gigs & Events forum.

And if they try the stunt again they know what will happen, again:P

If you lived in Madrid you have Real and Athletico. Both play in La Liga, the top division in Spain. Both play in Spanish Cups and Champions League.

Thats 30-40 games a year each. Champions League doesnt start until 9pm local time midweek and isn't over until 11.15PM.

Croke Park is used May to September. And at that its only every other weekend. 12/13 outings max a year for a €500m stadium.

And you're point is what exactly? It still sits empty most of the year and is only used for music a handful of nights a year.
