Where does it say the residents objected to the use of a helicopter? Condition 17 says they aren't permitted to minimise disruption but for all you know that was a condition put in by the council without any lobbying by the residents. Have you seen the resident's submissions? I haven't so maybe they did object to helicopters but unless you've seen the submission, you shouldn't jump to those conclusions. Do you think all conditions are a direct result of the resident's complaints?

Oh give me a break. People are going round the houses here in an effort to make the residents look reasonable when they have been anything but.

Helicopters are used on All Ireland day for news reports. The fact that it has been specifically stipulated here that they are not to be used and the reason given for it is that they would cause disruption, means that an objection was put in regarding them.
No private helicopters should be used for filming purposes in association with the permitted concerts.

Reason: to minimize disruption to the neighborhood in which the concerts are taking place.

Don't be ridiculous of course you have to have a limited number of concerts per year but I'd be thinking 10 or 12 rather than the 6 this year.

That's what you think though. An Bord Pleanala thought that 3 was a better number. Dublin City Council thought 6. Why is your suggestion any better than that of these two statutory bodies, who are actually fairly experienced at this sort of thing?

Are you forgetting the other concerts already there? You don't really know a lot on the subject given how vehemently you're arguing about it.

8 nights so, feck all nights in other words. If nobody slept a wink for 8 nights out of 365 with 4 of the nights being weekends it wouldn't be a big deal.

almost impossible to do, given the demand for these concerts, though.

They manage to do it in other countries though

Quote the post where what you quoted ("Kick the mirrors off their cars") was said by the "classy poster" and I will forward €1000 into your PayPal account.
I will in my arse trawl through 20 or 30 pages to find what exactly was said by that poster. You can keep your few bob, I feel rich already from the great news that was announced today anyway!
You know well what was said yourself. She warned residents not to park their cars anywhere near the concerts because wing mirrors are expensive to replace these days and the concert goers will be pissed off.
    Classy indeed...

Yeah, like the gods forbid they have to get a licence , like they do in every other country!

In every other country they don't they just get straight up permission from local mayor / relevant person in authority

Nothing to do with cash, DCC are well aware that there is a pending problem . When the GAA got their pp for the re building of the stadium and permission to run concerts, the petmission was conditional ... 3 concerts per annum. This was flouted by GAA and Aiken. Hence the residents are applying to the High Court for an injunction to stop the concerts as the qouta for this year has been used. The High Court will issue a ruling, this will almost certainly go to the Supreme court or possibly the newly apppinted 2nd level court (unsure of its title and if its been officially set up yet) . This will then set it in stone and it can never be flouted again.
3 concerts and apply for an events licence after that, croke park did nothing illegal, so they flouted nothing

Not when the original planning permission expressly stated 3 a year.
Delighted that the council has set down a marker and defended the rights of the residents against the unbridled arrogance and greed of the GAA and Aiken!
Serve them right if Brooks pulls out completely, might teach the arrogant feckerss some respect for the community.
    is the planning file online?

Hope all you want, it will never happen. All it would take is for the inevitable trouble to kick off and they'll never be allowed to host another gig again.

Really good answer, except my question was not "On which late-night chat show did Garth Brooks announce the Croke Park concerts?" Would he sell out Wembley or the Stade de France or the fookin' Maracanas? I think not. In fact, outside the 'red states' of America he'd struggle to fill mid-size arenas.

Nice backtracking by now attempting to concede the states when you hadn't initially.

In any case, the point seems to have went over your head, which was that he wouldn't be on the Tonight Show to announce concerts unless it was a big deal. He would be doing it on a local radio station.

One of us will be proved right soon enough anyway, as he is due to announce details of a world tour on the 7th of July.

I can see both points of view - the residents and the fans. I just think the decision taken (to reduce the concerts from 5 to 3) was a bit too late for all concerned.
But if the residents wanted the rule of law they would want ALL the GB concerts cancelled. The ruling states only three in one year. Smacks of having cake and eating it..

    Well, well, well................
Good old Garthy, showing his true colours. As for all of his fans on here who said "He LOVES his fans" "He's such a good man" "Ireland is his favourite place to play" , I hope you can see through the charade of show BUSINESS now.
Its business, nothing more. And Garthy is disappointed that his cash cow has gotten slightly slimmer since this morning.

He's disappointed as he had "plans" for the 5 nights. So much so, that there is no point in just playing 3!!??!!
Selfishness and money grabbing at its finest by not only Aiken but good aul Garthy too.

I can't get over the muck that some people are posting, on all sides of the argument. I feel a bit sad that the vast majority of people are so pathetic. Is this thread an accurate representation of the attidudes of this country or just some extreme trolling? the latter I hope. I don't think I even want to express an opinion on this whole fiasco now

Before they sell tickets, here they decided to sell tickets before even applying for permission, serves them right.

It was in this post that you insinuated it I believe:
A warning, large fine and compensation for the residents would have sufficed here. We are a country with a large deficit and it's a fcuking joke that we are allowing residents to dictate how many concerts can be played at Croke Park. No promises should ever have been made to them to begin with, ever. Other that is, than one regarding the regard for their health and safety whenever concerts are taking place.

Many sport stadiums throughout the world host concerts now, it's just the way it is. Would say the large majority of the people complaining here are just busy bodies with naff all else to do with their time. I hope the decision is appealed and won. Wouldn't please Dublin City Council by applying to play the two nights in the Phoenix Park now either. Malahide Castle / Marley Park are only around 33,000 and so Punchestown would be the only viable solution.

Oh and if I was one of the residents that owned a car, I would be parking else where when the few concerts that got the go ahead are taking place, as wing mirrors are fecking expensive these days.

no, i just think croke park should fight back hard against people who had an opportunity not to be "disrupted" by their business yet continue to live there yet whine about it

And that's why we are where we are and a pending injunction application to boot oh and the cost of a mediator who also thinks the GAA were wrong..........its very simple, they reneged on an agreement and it came back and bit them.

During the day, it's a massive difference than having one at night. Unless you're thinking of those quiet black helicopters?

Speechless....... They didn't seek money..... they were insulated when money was offered..... they turned down money.... they just want the GAA to stick to the agreement........

The council is acting on residents concerns here and you can imply that they have just restricted the use of helicopters themselves, independent of concerns of the residents as much as you like, but it won't make it so. All decisions made here were made on the back of concerns of the residents. I find it absurd that you would suggest that this particular one had nothing to do with them.
