There was, it was an agreement signed by both sides limiting Croke Park to three concerts a year.
The greedy GAA decided to break it and allow a promoter to sell tickets to the public for concerts that not only didn't have a licence but were all but certain to be denied a licence if the residents objected.
The arrogance of the GAA in their attitude is beyond belief.

It's not the greed of the GAA that's problem though, it's the demand from the public for tickets.

If there was no demand for those five nights, they wouldn't have been organised.

It's not arrogance at, it's supply and demand pure and simple.

    How are the residents scum?

there's a lot of pointless spite in this thread, typical from people of Ireland.

yeah, not everyone is a far of Garth Brooks, One Direction etc etc but why would you feel a sense of achievement or delight at someone being disappointed to see a concert.

it's not the end of the world for anyone but they have a right to be gutted as yeah every event is "subject to license" but that's (normally) a foregone conclusion. feel sorry for people who have paid for hotels, or other arrangements etc but I also have a lot of sympathy for anyone who's not gonna be able to go the concert.

    we're a country of begrudgers

Exact same argument could be made towards croke park if all 5 licenses were granted?
not at all, if your arguing that 5 licences would set a precedent then its all ready done, 3 concerts and the 3 1 d concerts. 6 concerts. so the council don't see a problem with more then 3 concerts been had in croke park

Pure and simple the greed shown by the gaa is very evident . They should have told the promoters we will push for 3 nights an no more .

Messenger? You took it upon yourself to create the list and then present it! No "messenger" about it. If you were a messenger, and you actually took messages from people, et's be honest, the lists would be identical.

So you agree that no concerts were cancelled.

Just that people were stupid enough to buy tickets for a yet to be confirmed event.

Bit like backing a horse and then complaining when he doesn't win.

What an truly brain dead comparison.

So basically everyone who ever bought a ticket for a concert in Ireland is stupid? Go home.

Confirmed by who? Obviously not the people who grant licenses.

Confirmed by the promoter which up until now has meant confirmed. But no, busybody, curtain twitcher residents had to f*ck the everything up.

lol. They most certainly will not get train, hotel and plane refunds.

If they booked train tickets online, they'll be able to get an 80% refund minus booking fees. Sure, it's something. Not sure how refunds work for any of the bus companies.

If they booked rooms on booking.com, often they won't have paid any kind of deposit or maybe a small one and will get most of their money back. Lots of people will have booked through that site.

So a lot of people will be able to claim some money back.

The list is from reading the thread, I'm only the conduit by which the opinion of the people is conveniently maintained in list form.

    This thread is gas

Im not going to the concerts, not a fan of Garth Brooks, not bothered if others are, I basically couldn't care. But as a guy looking at this thread and how its gone on in the last 3 hours, The silly comments, the butt hurt and outrage on all sides is simple beautiful.

    Loving it.

Confirmed by the promoter means nothing.
    Confirmed by DCC means confirmed.

Confirmed "subject to license" is not confirmed, if you believe it is Garths playing my back garden next year subject to license.

Then maybe, just maybe the promoter shouldn't sell tickets till they have a license? Y'know like the law says they should.

Its not practical to apply for the licence until the tickets are sold as has been pointed out earlier on the thread.

Please explain how that works, cause they manage it in other countries.

There is no need for a "once off" in fact I'd say if this had not been challenged the "3 concerts a year" rule would have been forgotten.

Everyone knew the rules in advance. 3 concerts a year. There was never any confusion. After the 3 1D concerts that should have been it for the year. Everything after that was a simple case of the GAA taking the piss. No more and no less.

Croke Park has been there for a long time, but the redeveloped stadium and the concerts are somewhat newer.
if the 3 gigs rule/agreement existed then these wouldn't have gone ahead at all, the fact 3 have, says its nonsense and doesn't exist, so they knew the rules all right and applied for the events licence like they were required to., the amount of concerts is tiny, only a couple of nights/days, people had the opportunity to object to croke parks re-development

Hindsight is a great thing. But it won't solve the problem any more than anger and bitterness and trying to one up the promoters or the GAA will.

And this my friends is exactly the tickets were sold with the magic words "subject to license" written on them. Said it ages ago.

If someone booked a non refunable hotel room to watch a concert that was still subject to license, they were stupid. Especially when, as someone said, you could use booking.com and do it all and cancel it al without costing a penny.

You also need to be able to supply that demand. The GAA/promoters couldn't without a licence.

The demand for me to supply everyone on boards with €100 would be high. If I'm not supplying that demand, it isn't the fault of the bank for not giving me the money to do so.
