I'm sorry but the residents are the winners here . They got two of the gigs cancelled . They took on a huge organisation like the gaa and won .
no, the GAA won, they got the majority of the concerts, residents wanted all stopped and they failed to do it

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

This is the funniest thing to happen in Ireland since that guy slipped on the ice.

    Unreal.

Bomb the residents. Its the best solution, then the rest of the country can enjoy as many events in Ireland's premier stadium as we like.

The moaners winning is sickening. What a waste.

What relevance to what I said is this?

I never said the residents shouldn't have some form of redress, just that I wouldn't like to see it go as far as is being suggested ie banning concerts outright.

Then why did the residents only object to the extra two or three concerts?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Who would that agreement be made with? If I was selling/buying a house in the area, the transaction would be between me and the buyer/seller. The GAA isn't party to a house sale, unless they're selling/buying, so don't get a say in what the buyer will agree to. If the seller was asked about concerts, all they can point to is the current agreement for no more than 3 concerts a year.

this is the agreement i meant should be changed, so if you go to buy a house there you are made aware by the seller that concerts will be happening as booked and there are no limits on how many there can be.

you know in a kind of "oh yeah one more thing you may not have noticed that huge stadium just there, but just so you know concerts and games happen there, and it can involve restrictions in the area, i hope thats not a problem"

I think its pretty obvious people are just irate that something they were looking forward to has been cancelled over nothing really. .

    They weren't cancelled.

They were never there in the first place.

    People bought tickets for nothing.

Frankly f*** the residents, 180,000 people are going to be out of pocket, businesses are going to loose money and I think the whole event was a great boost for the country regardless if anyone on here likes/hates his music there was a lot of demand and buzz for the event overshadowed by all this crap.

No, fúck Aiken and Croke Park for taking the complete piss. Direct your anger to the right people.

This is a compromise. It goes beyond the original agreement. The residents have compromised by allowing a 3 additional concerts over a weekend.

Ok fair enough. And now they've stopped two additional GB dates.

So why are they pushing for a two year ban on concerts?

Haven't they already won their fight?

I think the precedence been set is that it's wrong to sell tickets to something that you haven't applied for licence to hold.

This is the main part of the the problem.
The PROMOTERS in conjunction with the GAA sold tickets for a concert that they Did Not have a license nor permission for.
    It is that simple.
The promoters in their infinite arrogance should not have done what they did and now they have created a huge sh!tstorm and they are the ones to blame for this fiasco.
I hope when they are refunding the mobey to people that they give back the handling charges as well!!

Well, the residents likely still would have complained. After all, it's twice as many concerts as allowed in their agreement. But at least people wouldn't have made plans or put down deposits for the Mon/Tues concerts and have had to cancel them. Those people are really the victims in all this.

Ah we both know the residents won . You claimed for months all 5 gigs would go ahead . Only 3 are happening . That's a victory for the residents . They must have got some good representation . I would imagine they used the same people as aer lingus ;-)

As far as people who bought tickets were concerned they were cancelled. Every event in the country is sold "subject to licence" and permission is always granted so as far as everyone buying tickets was concerned the concerts were confirmed

Delighted for the residents. absolutely delighted.
A great result for people power and the local community over the greed of the GAA and the promoters.

    POWER TO THE PEOPLE! \O/

So you agree that no concerts were cancelled.

Just that people were stupid enough to buy tickets for a yet to be confirmed event.

Bit like backing a horse and then complaining when he doesn't win.

With all due respect as long as the concert stops by 11pm as is stated in the laws they should be allowed use their venue as they want/need to, the residents are arguing they should be allowed use their house as they want/need to,
A resident listening to music in their house doesn't affect Croker. Croker having concerts with thousands of people in attendance does affect the residents.
    hoodwinked wrote: »
my point is both sides have a right to have this, but essentially if one obstructs the other, the one who was there first (the stadium in this case) vs the residents should get the rights.
Croke Park as we now know it, is not the Croke Park that has been there for the previous 100+yrs. The residents and the GAA had a compromise, one that the GAA/promoter didn't seem to want to honour. The use of Croker as a multi concert venue is kinda new, it's no longer one off concerts.

to be honest, i'd check what was on my doorstep before making it my doorstep, if the area i lived in changed, i'd move,
My aunt had to after she built her home in the country side for peace and quiet only to find a planning application for a motorway being built just outside her back garden, so she moved.
I'm glad it worked out for your aunt, but not everyone can just easily move.

I think you require a humour transplant. I was clearly being a bit silly.

Look, 3 out of 5 concerts are going ahead. That's not a bad result either, they could have all been cancelled. Yes, people will be disappointed but again, Aiken and CP are the people to direct that disappointment at.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 710 ✭✭✭Reformed Character

    Absolutely it could.

Which is precisely why I don't want to see either side win this outright.

I'd prefer some kind of compromise.

There was, it was an agreement signed by both sides limiting Croke Park to three concerts a year.
The greedy GAA decided to break it and allow a promoter to sell tickets to the public for concerts that not only didn't have a licence but were all but certain to be denied a licence if the residents objected.
The arrogance of the GAA in their attitude is beyond belief.

Its pure semantics and being said purely to troll concert goers.

The tickets were sold for a concert that was confirmend to happen, its now not going ahead. i.e. its been cancelled.

Hahahahahaha, even with all the silly arguments from both sides for or against the concerts, you are by far the funniest guy on the thread.

I'd say you cower in the back room if you hear voices outside on the street, even on an average weekday.

I propose the following demarcation so we can more efficiently direct our anger.

    Scum

    Residents
    GAA
    Bankers
    City manager
    Cyclists

    Not scum
    Ticket Holders
    Garth himself

I'll update/change the list as you provide me with suggestions.
