So where should the line be drawn as to near croke park? 10 mins, 20, 30? What about people in phibsboro? Glasnevin? East wall?

don't live where disruption happens if you don't want to deal with disruption, so where ever suits yourself i guess?

    Just heard the news!

Surprised, really though they'd all go ahead.

But very pleased with the decision.

    Good job, DCC.

Word here on the radio in Oklahoma is that he's pulling out of the whole tour and doing one in the US in 2015. No idea of sources truth in it. Presenter said it came from Brooks camp.

Wow, I step away from boards for the morning and it's taken me 2 hours to catch up in this thread!

Well done residents. They didnt ask for all concerts to be cancelled (contrary to opinion on here), they were aggrieved when even more dates were added.

Hopefully, this will put a stop to this subject to licence crap. If you are a promoter, get permission for your event BEFORE you sell tickets to it!

I do have sympathy for ticket holders but they really should be directing their the anger at venue and promoters. They were the ones that let you down.

As I said above, I know that and agree.

A compromise is whats needed here, not outright victory for one side or the other.

But there was a compromise. The original agreement was that there wasn't supposed to be any more than three concerts at Croke Park each year. Garth Brooks' three and One Direction's three is six, which was the compromise. It's quite possible the residents could have stopped Brooks from playing at all.

    Greedy promoters. Delighted for them.

Feeling sorry for anyone that has booked tickets though especially travelling from a far.

If anyone attempts or does damage my property I'll simply use the pepper spray or knuckle duster I have at home.

Eff them, my property my rules. Touch my property and receive full violent force in defense .

    Good luck

Fair play to the residents. The right side won on this occasion. I wonder if the fans will turn on the big man if he pulls out of the other shows or will they blame the residents for that as well.
it was the residents association who's leader apparently doesn't even live in the area who objected, so they are mostly to blame, they knew it existed, they had an opportunity to object to the re-development, they chose this themselves, and now they have to live with the fact they live beside a large venue

If there was a sizeable amount of damage to property on the first night what do people think will happen the second night?

The remaining gigs would be cancelled immediately is what would happen. There would be running battles on the streets if they were let go ahead.

lets be honest, if this was a case of you buying a house next to an airport with only 5 flights a week, you have to surely know that in the morning an airline could say, "we are going to use that airport" and suddenly you are dealing with 10 flights a week. or at least you'd be wary of the fact it was going to get busier, especially if they were doing it up.
An airport couldn't just add flights or expand without permission. There are processes in place to apply for such expansion. And that also includes considering the local population.
If they went ahead and added flights and charged customers, without receiving a licence do to so, then they may have to start cancelling those flights if the licence was refused.
Anger customers who were sold tickets on those cancelled flights would have to take it up with the airline/airport.

Ah the poor Garth brooks fans . It's such hardship not being able to see him play live .
Have you no interests/pastime that you would be disappointed to miss out on?

I'm pretty sure the rule of law still applies on your property.

I think, judging by threats made on this thread, any residents either close to croker or in surrounding areas should arm themselves just in case.

Do not allow your neighborhood / property to be damaged by any ham hocks .

They have no right to , so make sure they don't.

"You've got to know when to hold 'em
    Know when to fold 'em
    Know when to walk away
    Know when to run
    You never count your tickets
When you're sittin' at the 'puter
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the concert license is done"

    Wise words

Is there a Kenny Rogers concert coming up?

my point there though was surely the residence knew what they were getting into buying/renting on the doorstep of a large venue, like you would should you buy next to an airport.

hence i don't feel they have the right to complain now, seriously whats next roads being closed during certain hours because neighbours can't sleep with the noise of traffic outside? or local pubs/nightclubs having to close because the neighbours around it don't like the anti social behaviour at 2am? where does the madness end?

any resident there pre the concert era fair enough, they couldn't have seen this coming, anyone who moved there in the past 30 years, i have no sympathy for,

i am not a garth brooks fan, but this is an awful precedence to set that venues there before the residents have to adjust to suit them.

Doesn't matter , if folk want to intentionally damage peoples property it's their own lookout what happens to them .

It's easy to see why they have a vendetta and all I can say is fair play to the people . They said no we aren't putting up with this . I thought no gigs where going to be cancelled ?
it was only a few, listening to the radio, not much sympathy for the objecters even from some residents, croke park do a lot of good

There's a big difference between expecting a few concerts a year to having 5 concerts in a row.

I'm sure the residents knew full well there could be concerts on in Croke Park occasionally but if you asked them a year ago would they ever expect 5 in a row I'm sure you know what the answer would be.
well any sensible person would answer with "well its possible its a large venue after all so it wouldn't surprise me"

I still can't get my head around the fact that essentially, those who live in a capital city want a more or less rural existence and the council is willing to pander to that. If you choose to live in a capital city, you choose to live amongst vibrant activity. Capital cities are supposed to be busy, not quiet and abandoned.

    I think it's a pyrrhic victory tbh.
Precedent is now set for gigs of 3 continuous nights above the nominal 3 special event nights.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
