Its an LED light, can't see it breaking for a long time. I'd say the electronic board would give up faster than the LEDs.

First impressions of the bloom are:

    - Size: It's a hell of a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Which is a good thing considering I want to stick it behind the TV. It's about 2/3 the size of my hand.

Also the amazon delivery box was laughably about 5 times the size of the Philips box.

    - Build quality is excellent. Nice metallic back but the stand is plastic. A little wobbly at first but seems fairly stable once the wires are out of the way.

    - Tested the light in a bright fluorescent-lit office and it worked ok colouring around 2 metres of wall, but I suspect it will really take off in a darkened room.

    - The remote is nice and the colour wheel has a satisfying click effect when turned :)

It's quite subtle rather than excessively bright, which I guess is a good thing.

Here's a pic of it positioned behind the TV (cheapo ipad camera but gives a nice idea)

Happy with this, cheers OP :)

Very Impressed with the product so far.

So Impressed that I'm disappointed I didn't buy 2 of them

Pretty good demo of this on youtube working with 2 of the lights.

That video shows the 2nd gen Iris (http://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/709996048/livingcolors-iris-clear) which is about double the brightness of the bloom/aura.

You won't get that sort of brightness with the ones in this sale (i.e. not reading-light brightness unless you are right up beside it) but it's the perfect brightness for adding subtle colour to a darkened room.

Yes but I wasn't going for the model but the ease of use more so.

The remote (I would presume looking at the video) Would control multiple lights with the same remote for synchronisation

No remote, plus might not be 120 lumens, which would be an absolute minimum

Also says 256 colours whereas the bloom/aura have "16 million"

To be honest you probably wouldn't notice the difference colour-wise

Tried out mine last night, as another poster above, I put mine behind the TV, works quite well.

Best part of it is the remote, just turn it on and off without having to go near the light and it sets nice atmosphere in the room. My Samsung TV also has a transparent bezel around it, so it looks like the TV is glowing :)

Mines the exact same with the bezel, looks amazing.

Probably the best BA i've gotten off here in awhile.

    Once again fantastic find OP

Yeah gotta say I'm loving this behind the TV (transparent bezel too). It softens the bright contrast of the TV in a dark room making watching TV a much more pleasurable experience.

Am I doing something wrong? I have to turn the wheel on the remote about 3-4 times before the colour changes.

That's because you're cycling through several thousand subtle variations of that colour. They're not really discernable to the naked eye though.

Anyone figure out what the left and right buttons do yet? The ones when you click left and right on the wheel.

Pick a colour you like, press the left button for 5 seconds and you will see the light on the control blink, do the same for another colour with the right button and these are then your shortcuts to your chosen colours..

Also if you circle the wheel and then on it goes random. Do it quickly and random colours go quicker!!

No not the buttons UNDER the wheel, I'm referring to the "buttons" on the wheel itself.

Clicking up brightens, clicking down darkens. What do the left/right functions do?

The instructions (as I'm sure those of you who have received yours have already realised) are pretty crappy.

EDIT: I found this which is actually pretty helpful and gives clear instructions on how to use the remote:

    http://www.everyhue.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/7099860ph_dfu_hun_iris_manual.pdf

So left/right buttons on the wheel control:

    Colour intensity (saturation):
If you want to add more white to your current colour or make your colour intense (saturated) again, you can easily change the colour
intensity (saturation). Just press the colour wheel on the left (more white) or right (more colour) position. If you keep pressing on the left
position, you will ultimately reach white.

You also need to click "I" to start this... So circle wheel 360 then click "I" to start the randomiser

Its quiet simple. Just shows you what to press and what happrns . only thing it doesn't show you is the automatic color change I think.

Didn't even realise there was an automatic colour change function and I was still impressed, but this makes it even better!

Yeah I had to look up how do that :(

Other than that great buy. Crazy price tag without the discount though. Showing 150 as original price ...which is stupid money for something like this.

Completely agree, but then again it was ony last month I saw a 4 foot lava lamp "On Sale" for €179.99

It shows you that as well, but the instructions in the box are cryptic. There's no way I could have guessed the left/right buttons on the wheel were for saturation, I thought it was another sort of brightness setting.

They're missing whole chunks of info about connecting multiple lamps up together as well. Bizarre.

Anyway the online instructions should help a few people out.
