Thought I always wanted one too, and was about to buy it, until I watched the video... I'm not that impressed looking at it.

I got one last year for the baby room after it was on bargain alerts. They are very nice a bit bright even on the lowest setting. But I would recommend it

Good price. Have been on the lookout. Thanks

Sounds great but looking at the video it seems to be very similar but less cool looking than my current lamp

It's a lamp? I thought it was a speaker at first!
Unless you're running a brothel (only judy can judge you:D), would it not just be extremely annoying?

not if you're listening to smooth jazz and sipping wine as you play with the remote :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

Duck it...picked one up :) an extra remote to lose ...

Is there any difference in the two models in the OP's post?

    I'm tempted :-)

Is there any difference in the two models in the OP's post?

I want to know this too... also any video links showing the Aura in action? Most videos on YouTube seem to be for Gen 2, or the Bloom

EDIT: OK seems the Bloom has better build quality as it's aluminium and a little smaller than the plastic Aura despite having same lighting effect. Also the stand is a bit more stable. Identical otherwise.

Bought a Bloom for £28.99 (well £29.72 from Amazon EU s.a.r.l.) (price seems to be fluctuating throughout the day). Cheers OP this will sit nicely behind my Samsung LED TV :)

Have had one of the Bloom ones for the past year and use it all the time. Tis a nice light to have in a room when watching TV instead of normal lamp.

Tempted to pick up another one at this price as I paid £45 for mine originally.

Don't wish it upon us, looked at some more videos uploaded by users rather than the manufacturer, very impressed with it. Only problem is the item si scheduled for delivery for over a months time! it's like ordering something off DX again.

I already have the iris and they are well cool. remote takes some getting used to however, it doesn't show the colour straight off, you have to do a few circles of the wheel..

Does it retain the last colour you set when it was turned off, or does it reset back to a default colour every time you turn it on?

There are preset buttons which I could use if the latter is the case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,689 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

don't think so but never really noticed. Preset button works perfect though I always use the constant changing light

My delivery date now changed to the 2nd of July.

I've seen plenty of long delivery estimates delivered well under expectation .

Under promise and over deliver I guess :)

got my email for the aura, despatched today.when the bulb goes on these,is that the end of it, or are the bulbs replaceable?

Its an LED light, can't see it breaking for a long time. I'd say the electronic board would give up faster than the LEDs.

Mine just arrived, good ol postman pat! Won't get a chance to open it til later.can't wait for sundown to check it out.

First impressions of the bloom are:

    - Size: It's a hell of a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Which is a good thing considering I want to stick it behind the TV. It's about 2/3 the size of my hand.

Also the amazon delivery box was laughably about 5 times the size of the Philips box.

    - Build quality is excellent. Nice metallic back but the stand is plastic. A little wobbly at first but seems fairly stable once the wires are out of the way.

    - Tested the light in a bright fluorescent-lit office and it worked ok colouring around 2 metres of wall, but I suspect it will really take off in a darkened room.

    - The remote is nice and the colour wheel has a satisfying click effect when turned :)

It's quite subtle rather than excessively bright, which I guess is a good thing.

Here's a pic of it positioned behind the TV (cheapo ipad camera but gives a nice idea)

Happy with this, cheers OP :)

Very Impressed with the product so far.

So Impressed that I'm disappointed I didn't buy 2 of them

Pretty good demo of this on youtube working with 2 of the lights.

That video shows the 2nd gen Iris (http://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/709996048/livingcolors-iris-clear) which is about double the brightness of the bloom/aura.

You won't get that sort of brightness with the ones in this sale (i.e. not reading-light brightness unless you are right up beside it) but it's the perfect brightness for adding subtle colour to a darkened room.

Yes but I wasn't going for the model but the ease of use more so.

The remote (I would presume looking at the video) Would control multiple lights with the same remote for synchronisation

No remote, plus might not be 120 lumens, which would be an absolute minimum

Also says 256 colours whereas the bloom/aura have "16 million"

To be honest you probably wouldn't notice the difference colour-wise

Tried out mine last night, as another poster above, I put mine behind the TV, works quite well.

Best part of it is the remote, just turn it on and off without having to go near the light and it sets nice atmosphere in the room. My Samsung TV also has a transparent bezel around it, so it looks like the TV is glowing :)

Mines the exact same with the bezel, looks amazing.

Probably the best BA i've gotten off here in awhile.

    Once again fantastic find OP

Yeah gotta say I'm loving this behind the TV (transparent bezel too). It softens the bright contrast of the TV in a dark room making watching TV a much more pleasurable experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,547 ✭✭✭droidman123

Am I doing something wrong? I have to turn the wheel on the remote about 3-4 times before the colour changes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,088 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

That's because you're cycling through several thousand subtle variations of that colour. They're not really discernable to the naked eye though.

Anyone figure out what the left and right buttons do yet? The ones when you click left and right on the wheel.
