Tried the Vaseline in the nose thing this evening.Made aabsolutely no difference :(

Spent several hours with my bf laughing at me over the tears streaming down from my raw eyes and constant nose blowing.

Once I get my roster for the next week, I'm booking an appointment with my GP. I've never had it as bad as it is this year :(

Used to have to do it every summer - would end up on the steroids.

Don't know how the **** I've gotten away with it these last two summers; I guess I don't have it any more? /touches the sh-t out of wood :p

I cannot emphasise how lucky I feel...

I've had it since I was 13, and have had 3 hayfever free years in that time (not consecutively). I envy you so much right now :pac:

Hopefully a trip to the doctor sorts it for even a week or two :)

I discovered the Neilmed nasal wash in 2012 though (life-changing) so maybe this might have something to do with it... but I don't know for sure, as I didn't have bad hayfever the few summers before that either. They didn't have such warm, polleny stints though.

My nose has been like Niagara Falls for the last few days and I am so itchy; eyes, gums, inside of my nose and even my ears. I am resisting the urge to scratch my face all over right now. My niece and I were out for the day and we were both sneezing all over the place, I'll give the vaseline thing a try.

If you're going to try the vaseline - rinse out your nose / sinuses first otherwise your just trapping the pollen that is already in there.

Has anyone else gotten hay fever late in their adult lives? I never suffered with this as a kid, it was only in my 20s that it started..

I've just realised the cold I've had with the constant sneezing and runny nose for the last 2 weeks or so is probably hayfever. Bah humbug.

OMG this!! The nose and the eyes are bad enough but then add in the itchy ears and face, kill me!!

I really thought I had it nailed this year I had no symptons, I was Vaseline-ing my nose constantly, even indoors because the patio doors are always open, cold camomile teabags on my eyes throughout the day, fantastic, totally on top of things, feeling terribly smug.....then last Sunday it kicked in with a vengeance and hasn't gone away since, today is actually the first day I've had any respite and even still my eyes are itchy and sore, I've given up on the Vaseline and teabags now, they're dead to me.

Anyone tried Elderflower for hay fever?

I put some elderflower flowers into a cup of hot water and drink it when its cooled down. It dries up the nasal cavities and gives much relief for some hours.

Not a problem for me to get as I live in a rural area. Urban dwellers might find it difficult to locate.

I believe Elderflower Cordial / Wine might also give relief .

Heres the up todate pollen info from Met Éireann

Rupatadine.... best drug ever for hayfever, not available in ROI, persciption only in the UK, but over the counter in Spain.
I've not had to get a steroid injection since I found these bad boys.

    **** Personal experience
**** I am on no other meds, be careful if you start taking anything new.

My eyes are so red and sore.. It's an absolute curse.

Nothing is working to ease it this year...

Think I'm going to opt for the Kenalog injection... anyone know how to avail of it or how much it costs??

A guy at work told me it's been banned.

A fine combination of medicines are keeping me sane at the moment. I'm having a live action preview of what it'll be like to be 90, I'm popping so many pills before I leave the house!

My nose isn't too bad, just a little runny but I can live with that. My main problem is my eyes, unbelievably itchy which then turns to sore the more I scratch. Forever jamming my finger in my eye to make it better for even just a minute but it never lasts and ends up worse. Spent about an hour today with a cold facecloth over my eyes, felt really good.

Itchy throat is also very annoying. I really need to find something that works!

Teabags for your eyes, genuinely works for me. Douse it in cold water, not hot, place over the eyes and it's very soothing.

A friend put me into camomile tea as well for eyes. I got this mad thing called blepharitis last year which was beyond annoying. A cup of camomile tea before bed genuinely made a difference.

Saw this on Facebook, hayfever is one of the most annoying things in existence! https://scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t1.0-9/p370x247/10441140_786424864709509_3444772763935929694_n.jpg

Just as bad in the UK for me I'm afraid :/ Apart from London, all the pollution keeps the pollen getting in!

The only place where I didn't suffer at all was Australia. Every summer I consider moving back there just to have a clear nose, but it's very far and expensive :pac:

    You all understand!!!

I've had hayfever since I was a kid and no sign of it disappearing, I'm 24 now!
OTC antihistamines never worked, I've been on Neoclarityn (stronger than the otc clarityn) for four years until about two years ago when they stopped working. On the highest dose of Telfast at the moment and they are really helping, but I still sneeze throughout the day with wheezing and shortness of breath. Guaranteed to wake up at 5.30-6.00am every day wheezing and barely able to breathe. I've been put back on inhalers it's that bad. Steroid nasal spray (Avamys) as well. Nothing helps with an itchy throat or eyes though! It's awful!! I'm the worst I've been in years, which is saying something!

I found this brilliant article about reasons for it being worse this year: http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?id=2441

Feck all you pretend-once-a-bloody-year-allergy people for your hayfeverness.....Boots have none of my much needed neo-clarytin and wont have any for a few more days.

For years, before I developed my other allergies and just had the hay fever I was advised to start taking antihistamines all year round to build up the protection, no good to you sniffling eejits now but hey now you know keep it up from now on.

My hayfever has never been this bad. Not sure I can take it much longer!! I've had about 50 nosebleeds in the last month. I'm taking nasal spray and tablets but it only gives me relief for a few hours. After that, I'm miserable! Also this is a new symptom. It hurts to swallow. Feels like I'm trying to swallow nettles or something. I haven't had a full night of sleep in about 3 weeks. I keep waking up having to blow my nose. I dread leaving the house. I'm going crazy!!!

Great article, scary when it mentions that taking decongestants too often can make the symptoms worsen :(

I'm in bits with it here, does anyone know where in Dublin to get the kenalog injection? I get this every year but my doctor closed this year and I don't know where else to get it.

    Register with any other GP?

Careful with the injection though, yearly use can lead to serious side affect it can be a cause of osteoporosis, they recommend to break from it from a few consecutive years.

I'm not too bad this year (fingers crossed), April and May tend to be the worst months, which made college exams a living hell.
I tend to be ok in the 'proper' summer months if I keep the windows closed early in the morning, and early in the evening. If I've been out and about too I throw the clothes in the wash straight away.

I registered with another GP but he won't prescribe or give it. I'm aware of the side effects but my hay fever is so bad it's affecting my eyesight.

If anyone knows of a GP that will prescribe it can they PM me?

Get yourself some local honey from a farm shop. Will clear your hay fever right up.

We were always told that the honey should be local to the area you grew up in.

Dont know if that is true or not but there is a fella from where I come from has made a fortune off me over the years.
