Don't feel too bad, Beatles...guitar groups are on the way out anyway :D

    - some Decca Records numpty

But George didn't hold a grudge, and set up Decca with a decent consolation prize!
Though the name Dick Rowe might not be familiar to most, his impact on rock history is large. In 1962, he was the head of A&R at Decca records, and the man who infamously turned down signing a promising new group called the Beatles to his label. While lightening usually doesn’t strike twice, Rowe was not about to let this blunder happen again.

On the recommendation by none other than George Harrison, Rowe ventured out to catch another promising new act called the Rolling Stones. On May 5, 1963, Rowe caught the band at the Crawdaddy Club in London. Within the week, the band were signed to the label.

Tony does pick of the pops on a Saturday afternoon on BBC Radio 2 and is well worth a listen.

Another great show is 'Sounds Of The 60's' with Brian Matthew on Saturday mornings, 8 till 10. Never miss a show, highly recommended pop-pickers

Around here the Golden mile for Record Company manipulators employees went from HMV Grafton Street to HMV Henry via Tower Records, the Virgin Megastore, Dolphin Discs and a few Golden Discs. Allegedly.

Looks like they missed out the Sex Pistols/Rod Stewart brouhahaha...not acceptable for those punk kids to be number one on the Queen's Jubilee, the chart was alleged to have been *cough* fixed, so Rod was toppermost even though he was selling less.

My local Radio Station ran it's own chart for years, based on requests to the station and sales in the local record shop.

It was always close enough to the Irish Top 10 except that we had Iron Maiden in our top 5 every single week for about 5 years. Bruce Dickinson wouldn't have got out of the county in one piece if he ever dropped in.

All set for Metallica tomorrow night, my friend? :D

Here's hoping they play only songs from the first three albums!

Ooh! Kinda out of touch with...well, every single thing in the real world just now on account of the football saturation.

    What time is it at?

The Blur record was cheaper, and some of the Oasis records didn't scan properly.

    Fix.

I hear Mohommad Bin Haman was in charge of the Blur campaign. But not officially or unofficially.

Band Aid would have been top, but it sold out everywhere.

Record pressing plants were working day and night to get more copies into the shops, you couldn't get it anywhere.

As you all know, I rarely listen to anything dating from after 1990.

What's the craic with these Arcade Fire fellas? I understand they're quite popular.

First(ish) impression: don't like their look or sound.

    Grumble grumble.

I saw them at Oxegen one year, left before the end.

Dull enough on a freezing cold night. But they would be good in the right environment.

Kaiser Chiefs on BBC3, never a fashionable band but they always did a good show anytime I saw them.

After watching 5 minutes I have to agree. I'm off to watch something more lively. Green Day or Slade maybe.

    Ah, go easy Skid.

This is my first step towards reintegration with society. It's not easy!

A friend of mine is going to see Arcade Fire in Marlay on Sunday. Sickener!

I'd say you'd have a hangover after that gig even if you stuck to the 7up all night.

Good ole memories of Glasto...popping into random peoples tents and asking the occupant ''Is this the dance tent?''

    Which they loved :pac:
I misread that as "pooping in"
Was thinking "I know toilet facilities are said to be gruesome at those festeevals, but... "
