Thanks, dude. I will soon. I reckon that's probably it. But what a pain in the face that I lost one of literally three channels I watch, out of the hundreds i still have.

Yeah, I had a listen to that myself this evening, I didn't know half of that. Really good.

It'd be nice to see a really good television doc about Suede. They always seem to be lumped in as 'another Britpop Band' but they have a interesting story, and lots of excellent songs.

    I second that :)

They naturally despise the term Britpop, despite their first records being credited as kick starting the whole scene.

Ah, brilliant Skid, didn't about them at all. Some very interesting stuff there.

    Thanks, dude.

The Football will be dominating the schedules elsewhere, but the beat goes on ....

    Thursday on RTE2

    11.40pm - The Blues Brothers
Two criminal brothers discover the orphanage where they were raised faces closure unless the nuns who run it can pay their tax bill, so the pair embark on an urgent mission to revive their old blues band to raise the money needed. Comedy, starring John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, Carrie Fisher, John Candy and John Lee Hooker

    Friday on BBC4

9pm & 1am Killing Me Softly - The Roberta Flack Story
A documentary profile of the American singer, best known for her early 1970s hits such as The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Where Is the Love and Killing Me Softly with His Song. The programme documents her middle class upbringing, born out of the self-contained hub of a segregated country, and her relative late breakthrough, occurring in her mid thirties. As a solo and duet artist she had her detractors for adapting her style to white traditions, but eventually won over a nation with her soft, gentle tones. Contributors include Dionne Warwick, Johnny Mathis and Cissy Houston, as well as several reflections from Flack herself

    10pm & 2am - Singer Songwriters at the BBC
Series 2 Ep 2/4 - Archive performances from the 1960s and 70s, featuring Billy Joel, Joan Armatrading, Tom Paxton, John Denver, Bruce Johnston, Gordon Lightfoot, Chris de Burgh and Stealers Wheel. The programme also includes an unusual appearance by Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance on The Basil Brush Show in 1973

11pm & 3am - Tubular Bells: The Mike Oldfield Story
An insight into the life of the acclaimed musician and the circumstances in which he - at 19 years of age - produced the biggest-selling instrumental album of all time, Tubular Bells. With contributions from Richard Branson and Danny Boyle

Midnight - Weller at the BBC
A compilation of performances tracking the career of singer-songwriter Paul Weller. Footage spanning the last 35 years reveals how he evolved from his beginnings in mod-punk trio the Jam to the more soulful sound of the Style Council and finally on to his solo career. The programme also features Weller duetting with Noel Gallagher on That's Entertainment, and with Amy Winehouse on Etta Jones' Don't Go to Strangers

    Saturday on BBC2

It's Eighties Night from 7pm. Yes, Prime Minister is followed by I Love 1998 and Red Dwarf and then ...

    10.25pm - TOTP2 80s Special - 90 minutes long!
Mark Radcliffe presents a selection of memorable Top of the Pops performances from the 1980s. Featuring appearances by Adam and the Ants, Bucks Fizz, Soft Cell, Dexys Midnight Runners, Madness, Culture Club, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Duran Duran, Wham!, Pet Shop Boys, the Communards, Whitney Houston, Bros, Tiffany, Yazz & the Plastic Population, Kylie and Jason, Black Box and Lisa Stansfield

That's about it. I was trying to find a vague musical connection to bill Airplane! (Channel 4, Friday Night 12.30am), all I could think of was that it features Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. That'll do!

There does seem to be more repeats of music documentaries of late on BBC Four :(

I don't know how long this will be o Youtube, but one of the best music documentaries ever made by the BBC in my opinion is the Arena documentary about the Everley brothers in 1984. Enjoy while you can

Yeah, I think BBC Four is being starved of cash in general unfortunately. New music shows probably aren't high on the Controllers agenda :(

'Disney Girls' by Bruce Johnston - superb record.

Bob Harris appears to have fallen asleep! Boo-urns!

'Still Crazy' is on TG4 at 10.30pm tonight.

A 1970s rock band plan a grand comeback tour of Europe to relive their glory days at the top of the charts, but old rivalries flare up while rehearsing their greatest hits, and the future looks bleak as the date of a major UK gig draws nearer. Comedy, starring Bill Nighy, Stephen Rea, Billy Connolly, Jimmy Nail and Timothy Spall

I can't remember if I've seen it or not, to be honest (they can use that quote for any future DVD release if they like!)

Decent enough cast, sort of an Auf Wiedhersen Tap vibe about it. I might tape it.

The BBC issued a Press Release about their commitment to music today.

It's very long, I picked out a few Beebrock type programmes which sound promising. They probably won't be on air until the Autumn, but it's nice to see some mention of new music programmes (especially after the deluge of repeats recently.)

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/bbcmusic
BBC One features spectacular events as well as some of the world's leading performers in concert, including George Michael and Adele, as well as landmark music documentaries in the BBC Arts strand Imagine.
BBC Two aims to bring music to a broader audience with high quality landmark series, single drama documentaries about pivotal moments in music history, as well as feature-length rock and pop films made by award winning producers and directors, profiling internationally renowned bands and artists.
Popular music is the soundtrack and the lifeblood of what it was to be alive in the 20th century. Until the 20th century music had been a moment – heard once and never again. It became Pop Music when it was captured and amplified by the new media of the 20th century. Television has covered this rich history in genres and moments, but The Soundtrack Of The Twentieth Century (working title) for BBC Two will be the first time the story has been told, capturing the history of one of the most exciting achievements of the last 100 years. This definitive many part BBC TV series, to be broadcast in 2016, will explore popular music’s rise and many transformations across the 20th century not only on TV, radio and online to form a BBC anthology. From Caruso to Taylor Swift via Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Eminem and many more, this is the story of 100 years of music as only the BBC can.
Genesis: Together And Apart (w/t) on BBC Two is a feature-length documentary on one of the most successful bands in rock history. Made with the full co-operation of Genesis, the film reunites all original members of the band together – Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford – for the first time since 1975.
Reginald D Hunter’s Songs Of The South is a three-part, BBC Two series which sees Georgia-born comedian Reginald turn his unique wit on the world and music in which he grew up as he embarks upon an epic road trip from North Carolina to New Orleans through 150 years of American popular song.
Music continues to sit at the heart of BBC Four’s story with talent, scale and depth at the heart of its remit. Two new seasons see the channel come together with radio to celebrate country music and music and fashion.

This autumn, BBC Four and Radio 2 present Country Legends: Nashville And Beyond, a season of new programmes exploring the rich history of country music. Three new films look into the phenomenon of Nashville: Nashville: Country Capital (w/t), Kenny Rogers: The Gambler (w/t) and Bob Harris: My Nashville. Radio 2 will be broadcast live from Nashville from the Country Music Association Awards, as well as broadcasting a special concert featuring country music superstar Brad Paisley and his songwriters.

Coinciding with London Fashion Week this September, BBC Four and BBC Radio 6 Music collaborate to create a bespoke collection of programming that celebrates the intimate relationship between music and fashion. Central to the season is Oh You Pretty Things! (w/t), a three-part television series exploring the relationship between British rock and pop music and fashion, featuring interviews with Biba’s Barbara Hulanicki, Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock, Jazzie B, The Kills’ Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, plus many more.
BBC Four continues its rich tradition of in-depth, original music docs featuring Kate Bush, Northern Soul and the Joy Of The Guitar Riff, which coincides with Radio 2’s Guitar Season. BBC Four also becomes one station under a groove for an evening of Funk music this autumn.

The musician was invited by reformist president Mikhail Gorbachev and the Kremlin to stage a series of high-energy rock concert in various Soviet cities, including Moscow and Leningrad. Meanwhile E4 has Wayne's World at 9pm. Featuring Alice Cooper. We are not worthy!

That Tell Her About It joke made me burst out laughing!

    Thanks as usual Skid.

And an extra thanks for squeezing in a mention of Airplane II. I'll admit I'm struggling to see the link to Beebrock, but it would be a mistake to leave it out.

Watched Wayne's World a few weeks ago. Absolutely love it.

It's high time somebody recorded an Irish version of 'We Didn't Start The Fire' - 50 years of Irish history in four minutes :)

The Footbally version from 1990 would be hard to beat.

Apparently, Billy Joel made a stab at singing a burst of The Game when he played Ireland around that time. Hats off to him if he did.

RIP, there was a good obituary on The Guardian

    http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2014/jun/20/gerry-goffin-the-poet-laureate-of-teenage-pop?

He was a great lyricist, and he had an amazing ability to write "as a Woman"

Andrew Ridgeley must be the jammiest person ever to have made it big in pop.

He does nothing, he doesn't even stand up and do airgrabs like the non singers in Louis Walsh's groups
