Need something bigger for daily driving tbh :(

S60 T5 is the goal and something interesting and vintage for the weekend a couple months later

Think twice about going down the yank tank route, I know you probably don't care and that others will disagree, but I have driven most of the cars you will be looking at (in the U.S owned by enthusiasts) and every single one of them was a bag of ****e and horrible to drive!
67 mustang, several 70s camaros, T birds, a 72 chevelle and several ropey caddys. The only decent one I ever drove was a corvette stingray and even that was only ok.

    My 2 pence;)

I agree. SG, get yourself one of these babies. 2.6 litres of fury packing 108 BHP.
    And suicide doors.

In fairness Mustang's are renowned for handling like bags of ****e. It's just the way it is.

Not really after a car with great technical ability more of a special car that feels like an event to drive from time to time and just bumble along.

I could just say feck it and buy an E46 M3 or an Evo or similar but im not after that i want a comfortable/quickish and fairly reliable daily that if it breaks i dont care too much and a special car tucked away.

Your classic pony / muscle car are great fun to drive; sound awesome and attract great attention from young and old. Traditional set up ain't great in terms of handling but a few simple modifications can improve that a lot.

Each to their own but they put a smile on my face anyhow. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,728 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Seriously, even muscle car guys in the stars will agree that they were shot went built an get worse with age.
No reason they still can't be enjoyed though. :)

I 100% agree! each to their own and if it what you fancy, go for it:)

I know a couple of people that have bought with rose tinted glasses and have regretted it, so I'm just throwing it in there.

Whatever he buys, I still want a spin:D

    Let's think logically.

A minibus is allowed to use a bus lane - what is the minimum number of seats for it ?

Tax is dirt cheap for a minibus

doe, use a transit and plenty of parts etc.

how to insure one ? Normal insurance + class 2 or 3 ?

Tempted to buy one so I can has bus lanes !

One thing that made me stop and think today, I was over visiting relatives earlier and was being asked about my "new car" and how clean and well kept it looked, to which i replied it's taken a lot of work to get it this way, I ended up showing one or two of them my build thread for the 9-5 to which my aunt goes, "and to think he knew nothing about cars two years ago" then my uncle goes, "that is scary progress for someone who's only at this two years, without being taught by someone else like"

Just made me think, I have actually learned a scary amount of stuff in the last while, especially in the last 6/7 months

Ahh yes, can't beat it. Great to laugh at all the cars whenever you are in the bus... not so great when you are in the car :( The temptation to get the uncle to go into the bus lane while in the car

Ahh, self praise is no praise ;)

But seriously, you seem to know your stuff when it comes to cars, can't comment on what you were like before, but even since I joined you've progressed like mad!

    Im just thinking about it.

insurance is just questionable as I wouldnt need commercial insurance, just social domestic and pleasure.

wonder would that work insuring it privatly like a big car

I showed you nothing, just cleaned bits of saab with a toothbrush for a few hours one night....

Does anyone on here near Athenry want to earn themselves some money for about 20 minutes of their time?

I need someone to look at a car before I head there to buy a car, but I'd like to know its not an absolute heap (which there is a good chance it is)

    A mighty fine job too

I was playing taximan for my mechanic the other day and was telling him about swapping turbos and how it looks to be a straight swap over, his reply? "That's dead handy alright, done a few myself, but you can either do it the internet way, or the right way, there's a reason turbos are expensive to install"

He then proceeds to tell me I will need to do/get the following

    A new td04, obviously
New banjo bolts and oil lines and other associated parts
    Drop/clean the sump, again
    Fit the new parts
    Fit the sump
    Do an oil change+filter
Let the car run for 20 minutes to prime the new turbo
    Change the oil and filter
    Repeat twice more

    Fcuuuuuuk that :pac:

So in another 50K Guess what I'll be doing! :D Yaaaaay :(

Passed near it both yesterday morning and this morning :( If I knew then I would!

On another note, anyone ever use Dr Marcus car products - new air freshener has me hooked!!

    Crumbs.

I wanna buy this, but its awful far to go and view it, cos there is a chance it is a heap. It would do great until the Saab is on the road.

Sure I still get confused with ratchet straps to this day, despite working them for at least 14 years now. There was a time I wasn't able to change wheels or do any heavy mechanical stuff because I wasn't physically able to.... Even the diesels, I had to learn that fairly fast!

No shame in admitting you're still learning as you go along :)

In other news, I've hit a huge problem. The loom for the 156 is badly cut. Now tis isn't a problem only Fiat Alfa decided to colour several wires the same colour (Fiat wouldn't be as silly to do this, the Daily van had the same problem but at least the wires were numbered!)

So, I've decided to pull the loom out again. Magically I have another 2.5 156 to pillage the loom from and another 2.5 to reference it against. When I have it figured, I'll make a custom loom from the 2 166's for another 156 or a certain blue van.....

Q time: was discussing this last night and got me thinking, carpet or no carpet? Sound deadening (apart from the bulkhead) has got the bin, so should I have no carpet in the 156, yay or nay

Oooooh I had a set of original 156 mats that were incredibally fluffy! I'll mock up the set I have at hand on the bare floor after and if it works, to Des Kelly carpets

This is the new race car project......should be 270bhp when it's finished, with some nice bits and pieces bolted to suspension and brakes for good measure....
