Bayern - just have a hard time seeing him there for some reason.

Aren't the German clubs basically unable to be that rich due to the rules regarding ownership in the Bundesliga or something? I also think there's something about the wages needing to be lower in Germany than elsewhere in Europe, that was apparently the reason Kroos was considering going to United.

    Ah here:
Luis Suarez appears to be using every trick in the book to engineer a move away from Liverpool.

His father-in-law has now stuck his oar in, claiming: "it would be the right time to move to Spain". Gustavo Balbi also said: "It doesn't matter whether it's one team or the other. But Luis will not go to another team in England out of respect for Liverpool."

We should prepare ourselves for the prospect of the world's most muted celebration should Liverpool meet one of the Spanish giants in the Champions League next season.

Hold out till August 28th and the CL's draw to see if we draw Barca or Madrid and then double the transfer price if we draw one of them :pac:

That interview was a few days ago. Seems a lot of his friends and family (especially on his wife's side as many of them live in Barcelona) have been making similar comments since he joined up with the WC squad.

Will be the same storm of "will he, won't he?" stuff as last summer, save for the fact he has been so much better on the pitch before this summer than he was before last summer.

We need a separate thread just for the Suarez speculation

Suarez should have his own tv show.

'Pool held firm last year and they should do so again. They cannot afford to let him go, as Spurs found out it is not easy to replace a player of this level, getting 2 or 3 lower level replacements is not the same.

I have a feeling though that this is akin to Ronaldo leaving Utd. They asked him for one more year and then wouldn't stand in his way. Ronny played great that year, Utd got 80m and he got his move while still be seen as a hero. Everyone won.

Maybe that is what happened last summer and 'Pool will let him leave for a massive amount more than the 40m they would have got last year.

Today's rumour is that for 200m, we'll allow Real Madrid to have him for Champions League games, but we still get to keep him for the league and domestic cups.

Isnt that just normal? I know my girlfriends family would be delighted if we were to move to Clare for example.

If he went, we couldn't and shouldn't try and do what Spurs did and fill out our squad with 5-6 players.

Spurs problem wasn't just that they didn't replace Bale. It was that Bale was pretty much all they had. He got them out of jail time and time again. Despite all Suarez' goals last season, we had Coutinho, Sturridge, Gerrard, Henderson and Sterling sharing the burden.

If he goes to Barcelona - we need Alexis Sanchez
If he goes to Real Madrid - we need Angel Di Maria

Plus at least 50 million sterling.

They aren't at Suarez' level, but they are both at least in the tier below. Top class players who would suit us down to the ground.

But I want Suarez, Sanchez, Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana and Lambert and Borini to be our front 4 (plus backup) next season. Is that too much to ask?

I think this is very possible. I think he would love the CL nights at Anfield, and the chance to go one better than last season and become a living legend. He must see how players like Kenny, Rush and Thompson are idolised around the club, whereas at Barca or Real he'd just be another player. And he must see how Torres is remembered after a very bad departure...

If we could just hold out this summer then I think Suarez could be with us until his 30's which would be close to the end of his current contract.

He is 28 in Jan and I think his value next summer (compared to this window which is probably his peak value window) would be lower but his age could be a factor/problem for the likes of Madrid and Barca when it comes to activating alleged clauses.

This makes perfect sense for us fans but could the club be thinking differently?

Maybe it is, but they are naming specific clubs in the interviews and stating that Suarez would not move to another English club but that he would be happy to go to either of the traditional big two in Spain.

Whether he stays or goes, I just hope it is settled as quickly as possible once Suarez is out of the WC. Both Barca and Real have players that I would love to see at Liverpool so a player/players plus a big lump sum deal might soften the blow of losing a player as talented as Suarez.

Best options - Di Maria, Sanchez, Benzema (who I think would do well in England if used correctly)
What we are likely to get offered - Tello, Afellay, Morata, Jese

What about Coentrao, Di Maria and £30M?

The only player that Real have that I want is Varane - that's the first choice France centre backs for the next 6/7 years but I suspect he'd also be one of the hardest to get.

Anybody who would let a prospect as good as Varane go is a fool imo - he's crazy good for his age

Varane and Benzema would be the Real players I would like to see. The two of them plus £40m might keep me happy as long as the £40m went towards getting Pogba or Sanchez. :D

I do rate Coentrao as well.

As for Barca. Sanchez is the no brainer, but would not be against Sanchez, Montoya plus about £50m :)

Now the ideal scenario would be to keep Suarez and add someone like Sanchez to the attack, but have a feeling that Suarez will want out this summer

Angel Di Maria is PERFECT for the way we line up. Unbelievable player often unsung because of Ronaldo/Bale.

    Fantastic player.

But does he work hard enough in defense?

Yes. If we went one better, i.e. won the league, with him as the spearhead of that, he would be talked about in the same breath. The world is different now, we cannot expect a series of titles like we had in the 70s and 80s. Winning the league now would be IMMENSE, and he would be talked about for decades as the star of this team...

I was referring more about the notion that Suarez would give a **** about that kind of thing. If he was concerned about his reputation and being idolised by Liverpool fans then he wouldn't have tried to jump ship to Arsenal at the first chance he got.

Reckon Suarez will go this year, honestly felt like this would happen once he drew England in the world cup. While I don't think we will be able to replace him, I think we will let him go, and realistically I think it's the time to do it if we ever were to. He stayed this season and nearly won us the title plus collecting the golden boot, I don't think we can say he owes us any more. Right now is probably the most valuable he will ever be too after that season plus knocking England out of the WC. Real Madrid having just won the CL will be looking to build and stay as the best club in Europe, while Barcelona are in a downward spiral for the first time in years and with their transfer ban on hold they will want to make big signings this summer, both clubs will offer big money or alternatively will have a lot of good players they can offer in exchange.

As I said I don't think we will replace him, but now that we have CL football it could be our best chance to build a strong team, imagine we weren't to qualify for the CL next season, many of Europes top players would want to join us then.

I don't think he did try to jump ship? Anyway, he is not the same as he was a year or 2 years ago. I do think that if we could show we are strengthening, he would give it another year - he is confident enough in his abilities that he'd think "I can always go next summer..."

Not the same as last year, in what way? He'll be 28 this January, his window is closing in terms of getting a big money transfer and deal.
