If they stay together they will run about 1.55 but if not then one of the lads could run it in 1.45. First HM for both of them. Their 10k best would be around sub 45/46. I wish i was able to run the race. It was me who talked the 2 of them into running it.

It s a shame john but it's more important for you to be fully fit for training for Dublin. Have you picked your plan yet?

Probably the hal higdon novice 1 plan. I am following the DCM 2014: Mentored Novices Thread here. Seems to be the way to go. As you did DCM last year your self any tips ?

Get your long runs in at all costs, I think that Hal Higdon has only one 20 miler and Career_Move changed that to three which was a good confidence builder. I did the Athlone 20 miler at the beginning of Oct (not as a race) and found it brilliant preparation. Enjoy it.

    Sun 11th may
    6k
    34 mins pace--5.42/k
Nice 6k jog with no pain. These stretches and foam rolling seem to be having a good effect. Will up these runs to 8k next week but im going to take it very easy pace wise for the time being

    Sat 17th may

I ran 5k last tuesday evening and was in pain afterwards so i booked a physio for this morning. He had a look at me and its an IT band issue. So i have to keep foam rolling and he gave me stretches to do to help with the problem. He insisted on no running what so ever for at least a few weeks. I can cycle/swim. Im back to him in 10 days time so we will see how it is then.

    Fri 30th may

Was back to see physio on Wednesday evening. I have been feeling pain below the kneecap and even kneeling down was sore. So we checked out a few areas around the knees and it looks like i have Patella Tendonitis in both knees. The right is worse than the left. Seriously pissed off now. Looks like a fair bit of time on the sidelines as regards running. Plenty of cycling, swimming stretching and strengthening exercises. I'm back to him in 3 weeks so will see how it is then.:(:(

Really sorry to hear that John, hope you are back on the road soon

No running with a month. Back at physio this week. No improvement. Went to doc this morning. Waiting for MRI in the next few days. He put me on anti inflamaties. Looks Like it gonna take time to sort this out. DCM 14 is gone as is any race for the rest of year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 966 ✭✭✭john mayo 10

Just a bit of an update on my situation. Had MRI's done on both knees. I have burstitis in left knee and inflamation of patella tendon in the right knee. Got cortizone injections into both knees y/day. 3 days rest followed by strengthening exercises then cycling in a weeks time. Back to doctor in 2 weeks. If all goes well back running after that.

    25 july

I started back this week. On wednesday evening i done a slow jog of about 3k and the same this morning. Im running on a local woodland trail so the pounding on the knee is less severe. Its great to finally get back out after months of physios, rehab and injections. The knee is still a little tender so im wearing a knee support but there is no pain so far. Im going to take my time with this. If it takes me till the end of the year to run a 10k comfortably then so be it. :):):)

Thanks Sám and Beertons. It just great to get out. I have done 3 runs this week. Monday. Thursday and today. All were about 3k. Knee is still tender so im going to take my time. I might use the parkrun in ballina when it starts up as a startback racing wise. All in good time through.
