Who was it that made a shout for Medel and to see if we could get him from Cardiff on the cheap?

great shout if his performance last night is anything to go by.

when he has more accomplished players around him he looks back to his former self cleaning up and being a little bollóx.

Maybe Chile means more to him that Cardiff? And he certainly worked better by having the foil of Vidal next to him, and Spain playing sloowwlly into their hands...

And on ther last point, sounds a lot like a South American already on our books?

Think people here wanted him signed as our DM, which I was quite against as he's frankly loco when he plays there more often than not. Said it in the Vs Australia thread, but he's usually done well as a center back for Chile, albeit as part of a 3 man defense.

Would rather Ki than Medel. He was very good again against the russians the other night. Be a great squad player and we could get him on the cheap.

I like him, found it odd that Swansea loaned him out, last season he was intrumental in Sunderland's survival I thought.

But for me, he is Hendo lite, and I don't think he'd get a start ahead of Lucas, Allen or Can, who are out back-ups for CM...

Oh yeah, forgot about Can. I'd have him ahead of Lucas anyway.
I think he's a very tidy player, keeps the ball moving, does the simple things right.

He only got 6 yellow cards last season, and I'd imagine he'd be tackling an awful lot more at Cardiff than us.

Any time Cardiff were on TV, he was giving away cheap fouls or constantly bickering with players or the ref, as ever it seemed. Honestly think he's a ticking time bomb in midfield, though some might say the same of Mascherano, but Masch were always a class apart from someone like Medel (at DM).

edit - I should add that I'd take a punt on him due to him playing two positions, but namely because of what he offers at CB. Just think the hype he's received here at DM is unwarranted bar the odd performance.

When it comes to Medal, I don't think anyone believes he would come in and become and instant starter and light it up in our midfield, but for the way our squad is right now, and what is ahead of us, he could be a very handy addition.

He's quite different to what we have already, and his current situation in Cardiff makes him more attainable. Added to that he has a year down in the PL already, so should only improve.

Think he would be a good squad addition for the right price.

20m for Lallana isnt lunacy, its just what you have to pay to get a player that a club doesnt want to sell, not hat 20m will even get him anyway. Theres a very good reason that they dont want to sell for anything less than bigger money than many think he is worth. The reality is he is a quality player who has come through in an 'alternative' way in comparison to the young player who is bought by a big club early, rarely plays, rots, is loaned etc.

I tend to go all 'meercat' when a quality player on the face of it is up for sale. Why is he up for sale? etc, could be a total anti christ to work with and poison in the changing room. Aye, the talent is there but maybe the head is gone!!

And one other thing that continues to grind my gears year on year. People are talking like Sanchez/Lallana for 25m is a no brainer choice, smell the coffee peeps. We could double Lallana's wage and that might only be half of what Sanchez might want. At the numbers rumoured its an extra 15m in wages over 4 years just for 1 player over the other. He might be quality in an individual's opinion but we would be paying for it in wages etc, not xfer fee. I believe that is our clubs stumbling block, like it or loathe it, thats the reality. I dont think we have a snowballs in hell of Sanchez on those grounds........and actually i'd be quite happy to take Lallana.

I don't see us adding another CM unless Lucas goes, which is possible I guess...

What wages is Sanchez currently on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Sanchez is reported to be on currently on 90k a week.
With Reina & Agger probably gone it would free up cash for wages.

Keep Suarez and sign Vidal and we win everything... simples

It would be brilliant to see us sign Vidal! and Sanchez too.....
We should really get them cheap too on account of how poorly the last Chilean we signed was for us....
On account of injury mainly but we deserve some Chilean love on the cheap as a favour now :p

Broken record. There is nowt wrong with overpaying for the right players IMHO. If United think they can sign Sanchez, Liverpool can sign him. We should be throwing the kitchen sink at him, pay an extra 5-10M. He's at the time of his career and with his skillset to not settle for anything less than a club that can challenge for the title and is in the Champions League.

Lallana is different. If the 15M valuation/bid is true, the club have it spot on. 25M-30M being what Southampton want is lunacy.

United are always a bigger pull and can offer more money without it being a big hit on their transfer spend. Obviously this Summer is a bit different in that we can offer CL which gives us a chance, but the other side is I'd imagine United will want to make an impression this Summer with signings. Sadly Moyes is gone which is another advantage we had gone too!

    Ah here.

Show me a better functioning attacking set of players please? Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema are the only one's I can think of.

Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge are as good as anything out there and they will prove it in Europe this season. Adding a player like Sanchez to those 3 would push it on another level.

We need to get an lfc rep. into the Chile camp and start craddling some balls. Vidal + Sanchez are everything you want in your players. Technical ability, class and heart.
Off over to the Argentina camp to stroke some shaft, "hey Di Maria, can I get you some water? Want me to hold an umbrella to shield you from the sun?"

Messi, Pedro, Neymar, Iniesta, Sanchez. Take 3 or 4 of them.

Aguero, Nasri, Silva, Dzeko, Toure. Take 3 or 4 of them.

Muller, Ribery, Robben, Gotse, now Lewandowski.

I could go on. These players have been doing it for more than 1 season too.

I agree for the most part, but this is different to say being Kroos or Muller linked with United and Sanchez linked with them lot. I've always been of the mind, once Van Gaal was appointed of course, that Kroos and Muller would be willing to join them for the Van Gaal Factor, ridiculous wage figures that have been touted around they're willing to offer and the fact both those Bayern players have won everything there has to be won with Bayern. That last point is key, and for that, a change of scenery could have been on the cards. It doesn't now, but a few weeks ago there was a decent chance of them moving to United if Van Gaal wanted them.

Sanchez on the other hand is like Suarez. Very similar style and mindset. A fighter. He REALLY wants to be competing at the top level. United might be able to offer him CL in a year's time, but is that good enough for some one who is arguably at the peak of his career with the World Cup further cementing his status in world football? I have my doubts honestly. I'm sure I'll get the roll eyes treatment from any of their supporters for that, but that is genuinely how I feel on the matter. He'll want a Juve or Liverpool over United at this moment in time if he is moved on from Barca. Someone like him should be on show in the Champions League. Sure, we've been told that numerous times by opposition fans and that no matter the wages we offer, the best players will turn a blind eye more often, which is true. Funny enough the tune has changed with some opposition fans :p

As much as I rate our front 3 I would not say we're as good as anything in Europe.

The players are young and have massive potential. But they have to perform in the Champions League on a consistent basis before we can say we have the best strike force in Europe..

Jeez can't wait for those Tues/Wed night games..

How anyone could say our front three is one of the best in Europe without seeing next season's FIFA ratings first, is beyond me.

Good man Sterling, this time last year.. some people thought a move to a Championship side was on the cards.

Now linked with the current CL winners, thats some turn around.

The answer lies somewhere in the middle but I for one cannot wait for next season to see Sterling play again in the PL.

You could probably argue that Juventus & PSG have better attacking lineups, one season so we need to keep the feet on the ground. We had the best attack in the prem last year, that's not up for debate but we need to keep our feet on the ground.

Sanchez will be a serious commodity after the world cup, we're not in that bracket until we win something in Europe and get the ground sorted arguably too.

I bought an udinese jersey 4 years ago because of Sanchez. Never thought we'd ever have a chance of signing him after he went to Barca. Would be a dream signing for me.
