got to feel sorry for hernadez. Left on bench for us most of the time and now its the same story with mexico. Wouldnt be surprised if he left us after the wc

Hasn't scored in his last 10 for Mexico I thought?

He missed an absolute sitter last game and Peralta & Dos Santos are playing well together. He hasn't scored in a good few matches either, not sure of the exact number.

Great header from Fellaini. Good starting position, well timed run and attacked the ball with purpose. That's the type of player I expected to see when we bought him, and he is capable of doing that on a regular basis. Just never looked confident in a united jersey.
Hopefully LVG can get the best out of him.

Joint third. This Mexico manager seems to have a serious hard on for Mexican based footballers.

He hasn't scored in 10. Hasn't been playing for club nor playing well for country whereas the alternatives have. Its a question of form more than anything.

Remember reading this before, and that the only reason he played Hernandez was star power and his form with United. Guess he took his chance to drop him once the United form dropped too...

Delighted for Fellaini, his confidence must have been seriously low after the horror season he had. It wasnt his fault we paid ridiculous money for him. whatever about his failings as a midfielder, he can cause absolute chaos when he is let loose in the box. I dont think Moyes had enough self belief to unleash him like he was today. If he had thrown him up as an extra attacker he would have been accused of being a caveman manager and he feared the reaction from his critics. I d be confident LVG can find a role for him.

Its a real shame he was bought to be a midfielder and not a striker I guess.

It was a stupid transfer in that sense. I ve 2 Everton fans in the family and they always said that when Fellaini was played as a CM he was too slow and his touch was nt good enough but he was always effective as an auxilliary striker. It was a panic buy pure and simple

duck* that fit*. If i want to watch that kind of football I'll stick on West Ham.

We have 3 brilliant number 10's and yep I think LVG will find a role for him pretty quickly... but i don't think it'll be at the club.

I m not a fan of hit and hope Jack charlton football. But do you not think that in some of the games this season when RVP and Rooney were injured and we couldnt break teams down to save our lives, that it wouldnt have been worth a try to push him further forward and try to score a few route one goals like he got at everton? I want us to play nice football but if nice isnt working theres no shame in having a more direct alternative.

TBH I'm no fan of that football at all and think the only time for it is the last 5/10mins max of a game. We had the players to break down any team just didn't utilise them imo

Cant believe we are intending on signing Vetongen from the Arse. If hes no good enough for them how is he good enough for us and he would only be a squad player. We need first teamers to strengthen the 1st team. Could it be the Shaw deal has reached a stumbling block?

my big annoyance with Fellaini was that when he was played centrally he didn't get into the box much - he hung back defensively. I do reckon it was tactical, but I think back to when we had Keane and Scholes in midfield. They were playing a midfield 2, and both were able to arrive late in the box to effect quite often - I don't understand why we restrained him so much. Was so annoying seeing him lay the ball wide and then hang back rather than make a move to the box

Because it wasn't just him that Moyes restrained; it was the entire team. He was so negative, so defensive at all times, that he didn't really send players up unless he absolutely had to.

Symptom of Moyes’ tactics. The two cms seemed to have been told to shield the defence more than get forward.

it is something that appeared in the papers in the aftermath of Moyes' sacking - that they were told to sit so deep. I'm not saying Fellaini would be top class if given that freedom, but i reckon he'd have been a lot more effective.

He still can be effective in a midfield 3 with LvG in charge. All depends on whether he wants him or not I guess.

Great point. Moyes was such a negative manager. Van Gaal will hopefully find a spot for Fellaini

Vermaelen plus Vertonghen equals Vethongen :p

I remember Wilmots saying he couldn't understand why United played with two no. 6 players (while defending Fellaini).

No he wouldn't. He would be a waste of a third midfielder. Apart from his head and chest the rest of his game isn't of a high enough standard for Utd.

Although with the midfield being so bad it doesn't stick out as much as it should.
