I don't rate Thomas Vermaelen at all. No better than what we have.

Anderson has all the talent in the world but injuries and a questionable lifestyle have ruined his career. If coached properly he could be a very good squad player it's a shame how he turned out. But i would rather keep him and see if LVG can get the best out of him instead of playing Fletcher and Cleverley.

The question is will we buy a cb i think Smalling and Jones will come good if they play. I would be happy enough with Evans, Smalling, Jones, Keane and maybe buy a young cb.

Vermaelen isn't great but might be an ok signing as a back up if the plan is to use the other three all the time.

Can't believe people are still clinging to any hope with regards to Anderson. Every year people believe he can turn it around. He then fans this by having one or 2 games where everything goes right for him but then his wasteful play becomes a huge issue. He's finished.

The Verm thing is interesting but not hugely unexpected.

I think I've read before that LVG likes to play with 3 CBs, and people responded saying we don't have those players. If he does want that, we'd likely need two decent CBs; Jones, Smalling, Evans, Verm, a top class like Hummels and Keane would leave me pretty happy. And given the price being discussed is approx 8m, I'd be happy enough with that piece of business...

Rooney gets his chance tonight. I hope he plays well and England win.

I hope he and Welbeck play fantastically but England lose due to a series of Joe Hart errors. Simply can't watch Pirlo and NOT want the man to win. FORZA ITALIA

He is a left sided centre back as well.

As all three of Jones, Smalling and Evans had injury trouble recently a centre back is needed, maybe two as Vidic and Ferdinand are gone.

Getting a Premier League CB in would make sense when other CB targets are coming from other leagues (Martine Indi) and may not actually be available this summer (Hummels). I think other signings for other positions will also be coming from other leagues so I can see why that type of player would be linked to United right now.

We have seen one amazing game, orchestrated by LVG. That result was incredible. The thing that impressed me most of all was the constant mentality of attack attack attack despite being 3-1 up. Moyes and possibly even a Fergie in the twilight of his career would most likely have tried to choke out the game at 2-1 and definitely at 3-1.

It is only one game we've seen but it is most certainly cause for some hope and optimism next season.

I think we have the right manager at the helm to get the Manchester United show back on the road.

Nothing would make me happier than Anderson silencing his doubters.

Not read that myself. The 352 or 532 last night is very new for van gaal. What he has shown a lot in the past is that he likes to play a back four, with one of the players being capable of pushing into midfield, making it a 343, if the pattern of the game needs it. Two full backs are still getting played.

Silva could, and should have put them two up. The Spanish fell apart last night, that should not be forgotten.

After 8 seasons, it's bound to happen any day now......

Agreed, but a team as good as Spain will always get chances against any team no matter how organised they are. If Spain had gone 2 nil up I still think they would have conceded at least 2 goals against that Dutch team. A motivated RVP and Robben are as good as any players in world football.

I'm not for one second claiming our managerial messiah has arrived but my God his style is a hell of a lot more suited to Man Utd than most other managers.

If the right players are signed, of course....

    Oranje is the new black.

Directed and produced by Louis Van Gaal.

Phil Neville's "Not too fussed about Pirlo". Easy to see why he was a favourite of Moyes.

Spain should have been two up

Well Holland should have been one up to start with

When you are 2-1 up in a game you have to tighten it up at the back. The other team have nothing to lose so they throw more players forward. You have to do something to combat this.

I'm not saying Moyes was great (he was shocking) but when the teams keep attacking it's usually the forward players doing it on their own rather than the team attacking as a whole.

Spain only know one way. They should have shut up shop after 3-1 and it could have ended 7 or 8-1.

Yeah its all very fluid. Like for instance in a 4-4-2 if a left back is 5-10 yards pushed on towards the left wing and the rest of te jdefence come across then suddenly we're playing 3-5-2 and if that left mid pushes on another few yards then its shifts to 3-4-3. Its like having a jigsaw piece and rotating it constantly until you find the correct shape to defend and attack.

It's probably like the comment taken out of context by Moyes last season about aspiring to be like City. Even though Utd lost 3-0 to them and City played excellent footy.

Cannot wait to see what LVG does with the players.

If Woodward/LVG wants Cavani...it is interesting that he is playing on the left wing for Uruguay.

He's playing up top with Forlan?

I rate him too. Would be a solid if unspectacular signing.

Wheres 8 million coming from though? Is he nearly out of contract or something? Seems very low. Esp for a Spurs player.

    You're thinking of Vertonghen maybe?
