What I noticed tonight around 10 minutes into the match Van Gaal was on the bench and he was smiling observing the situation, looking around the stadium, taking everything in. This was before anyone scored. It was like he saying this is my arena, my setting, I'm here.

It just hit me the contrast right there between him and Moyes straight away. He has this aura about him, and the celebrations with RVP etc were class, hes a mad fecker!

Even if the dutch capitulate from this game on I've seen more energy and positivity from Van Gaal in that moment than I seen from Moyes in all of last season.

The way he talks to the press is another blessing, again the opposite of Moyes.

    Exciting times ahead

2-7-8-6-7 those are the league positions the Liverpool squad have managed in the last 5 years compared with 7-1-2-1-2 for Utd's squad.

I'm more inclined to think that changes at other clubs account for Liverpool's improvement rather than a sudden improvement in the quality of their players.
Minus suarez that squad wouldn't have got top 4. Also they were very lucky with injuries. Outside of their first 11 I dont really rate many of tgeir players.

We need a team in form again to get ahead of them. Cant see Liverpool challenging again with the addition of Europe unless they seriously spend.

For us 3 players should be enough to challenge for the title and that's a lb cb and a cm Ideally id like another cm and a backup natural rb but honestly think 3 into the team playing with confidence under van gaal would be enough for next season

What pleases me is that if LvG can get this sort of performance out of the Dutch then there really is no excuse for any players to complain about anything. If he deems them not good enough then feck them! They aren't.

He'll command an authority/respect that other managers can't. If he gets the Netherlands challenging for the World Cup in a serious way, then everyone will know exactly where to point the finger, no doubt. I like this.

Yeah, I'm torn between wanting him to go out early and getting to work for us....and winning the whole thing and showing how brilliant he is.

One team always seems to peak in the group stages of the world cup, but look incredible while doing it. There is a long way to go before the Dutch can think about really challenging for the World Cup, they have made a great start and hopefully they do well, but lets not get carried away, when it went to 3-1 Spain completely capitulated and it really could have finished any score.

But it's Spain! 3-1 is a serious statement on its own, and to continue with the lethality right to the end is seriously positive.

Van Gaal is going to be excellent... It plays into our hands if the world are talking about him and the Dutch Team.... It might give potential signings that little push towards OT

Not knowing much about Van Gaal other then what I've read on the Internet I'd imagine LVG will fcuk him out after them with a swift boot in the arse for good measure!

Of course, but the game was very close to that point, Spain had their chances too and should have been at least 2-0 up before the dutch scored. Delighted with the result and the tactics/performance particularly second half

Rooney throw his toys out of the pram? Never. He only cares about the team doing well. ;)

Rooney gets his chance tonight. I hope he plays well and England win.

I expect Rooney to buy into Van Gaal's philosophy and to excel over the next few seasons as a result.

There could also (hopefully) be spectacular improvement from players who we've probably dismissed as surplus to requirement dross. Anderson springs to mind. A fit and focussed Anderson could be a joy to behold. And no, I'm not taking the p..s.

The thing is, under Van Gaal, I think the vast majority of players merit a rethink.

I agree, but regarding Anderson? LVG doesn't do circus and for that reason I can't see the master clown Anderson contributing anything. Which would be in keeping with his 7 waste of space years on the squad. Hopefully LVG will quickly dispose of that deadweight.

    Definitely.

We could be surprised at who buys into it and prospers and equally at who runs for cover and gets shown the door.

    Exciting times.

    Graeme Bailey @GraemeBailey
We are hearing Manchester United have made a move for Thomas Vermaelen

Hopefully just a rumor without any substance.

I'm far from a fan of Anderson, but it might make sense for Van Gaal to say to him "look, everyone thinks you're a clown...I'm giving you one last chance...do exactly what I say for a season and let's see if we can't make a player out of you".

    Unlikely but you never know.

I know its probably a little bit of an over reaction but im stupidly excited about van gaal and rvp for next season after that display last night.

I was of the opinion that the earlier Holland go out the better but now I want them to go as far as possible under LVG - it could precievably help transfers as players take notice of his tactics and realise this man is anything but coming to his managerial end.

    A very good point.

I was hoping for Holland to go out early but if Van Gaal's side excite the world, it's gotta make more players want to play for him.

The most exciting thing from last night that I would take from it is that LVG creates a sense of harmony and spirit in the dressing room and his players give everything for him playing with passion and endeavour. He commands respect. All these attributes were missing with Moyes. I presume their are no massive egos in the Dutch dressing room. The style of attacking football they played last night was great to watch defending for their lives and attacking on the counter with such clinical precision. I hope they go far and cant wait for him to take charge of United. He will galvanise the suad and bring the best out of Mata, Januzai, Rooney, Kagawa and of course RVP. Exciting times ahead.:D

I reckon Van Gaal will bring in Martins Indi and try to bring in Blind can't see Mata fitting into his system.
