Anyone else fancy Croatia tomorrow night? Their midfield is far superior to Brazil's midfield. Mandzukic is suspended but I still think that Croatia can win 1-0 here.

I don't necessarily fancy them to win, but I think they have a good chance of picking up a result. I have a free bet for the first game so will probably throw it on Croatia double chance.

I posted a few pages back that only 3 favourites have won an opening game at the World Cup out of the last 10. Out of those 3 wins, Germany's 4-2 win vs Costa Rica was the biggest deficit.

At worst I think Croatia will keep it tight.

Decided to back the argies outright, I'm on holiday at the moment though and just wondering if they won their first game or two would their price for the tournament contact much?

Don't want to back then now because I'm wanting to keep my money for the holiday

Had €4 in my PP account so threw it on Croatia @ 9/1 (think they could be gotten as high as 12/1 elsewhere). Seemed like good value and gives me someone to cheer for :pac:

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Croatia are severley hampered by a complete lack of wingers, even if Mandzukic had been playing he wouldnt have been effective as his overall play without aerial isn't all that great. Croatia also struggled in qualifying and barely made it to the finals, with all those same players.

This is hilarious. The good, honest, patriotic Daily Mail promising not to reveal England's tactics.

06 was a great tournament but that film was a mess, lots left out iirc and you can only tolerate Brosnan for so long!

Gents, looking for a bit of assistance.

Organising a World Cup pool at work, everyone gets a team, all teams used.
    I want to keep it interesting for all parties though so going for a range of prize categories;
    Winner
    Team with worst overall record
Top scoring team in the group stage
Side to qualify for knockouts with the worst record.

Any others you folks can think of?

    first OG
    first penalty scorers
    first penalty save
    first to win penalty shootout
    first free kick scorers
    first defender to score
first to use all 3 subs
    hatrick scorer
    biggest winning margin
    biggest losing margin

Anyone want to do a last man standing competition for this?

Pick a team each week to win. Can't pick same team twice.

Not sure how feasible it is with the later rounds though. It's too early for me to think about it. Can it be done?

Last night Spain were 13/2 to lift the trophy. Why are they suddenly the #3 favourite behind Brazil and Argentina? I understand the whole South American location, the winner's history etc, but it's Spain!

Prices have been falling and will fall all day prior to kick-off this evening.

I'd say run each round every two days. That gives six fixtures to choose a single winner from.

I see Brazil buckling under the pressure, they haven't got a player like a Ronaldo or Messi to pin their hopes on but they get to quarter finals. If anyone says Neymar I go crazy :pac:.

I expect a Germany and Spain final unless they clash earlier.
