Jesus. There goes the neighborhood. One of the top 5 posters on here. What a great shame.

I have talked to Convert about a feedback thread for the racing forum and she agreed to start one but that was a week ago. Not sure how long it takes.

Maybe a feedback thread would prevent some of these cards, infractions etc and allow regular posters to iron out current difficulties with moderation.

It's a great shame that Urban won't be involved in that process.

Hopefully we'll see the new thread soon. Not sure how long it takes to start one.

It's absolutely bizarre we can't discuss in depth one of the biggest news stories(not just sports stories) happening at the moment.

On a side note, anyone staying up for Ireland Portugal tonight?

(Reason for posting- it's off the topic of horse racing, I'm Irish, I like football, I like Ronaldo)

    Thats a good idea.

There was a feedback thread in the the soccer forum recently that i read keenly.
There were some good ideas thrashed out and modding issues posters had were discussed and ironed out.
Also good to see the mods perspective on some things.

So can we have a feedback thread Beasty?
Set a time limit on how long its open, 5 days/week
    .

Surely it should be open for longer than 1 week to allow all contributors a chance to give their feedback ?

It's summer (what you guys call a summer) with you guys now so people could be holidaying.

If I wanted to discuss it without using the Soccer forum, I'd go to the off-topic thread in the Pro Wrestling forum.

    Fúcking hell.

    No more TMYPOTMYGB.

I follow Aidan and Rossom but with Urban you could almost ask him to put his rep on the line for his opinion and he would.

He steered me on and off many a winner and loser respectively.

OK, this thread is again heading into an area that is not for discussion in the open forum. However I understand the desire for as feedback thread. I would see it as very much two way though as it's clear to me that there are a significant number of "regulars" in this forum that have little understanding of site-wide rules and the way it operates in practice. It would also have very strict ground rules - again there appears to be a few posters around here that sometimes struggle to understand why certain rules are in place, but any feedback thread will not be an inquest into specific issues or mod actions. It will be to help shape the future of the forum in a way that we can avoid some of the problems that have been seen in recent times (and to be clear this forum has a higher proportion of "problems" for its size than any other Sports forum in my experience)

Before starting anything though I would want to discuss it with convert and GavRedKing my fellow CMod. I would also be waiting a few days for things to settle down around here

In the meantime I have not (yet at least) said that World Cup talk is banned completely in this thread - however if you really want to discuss football then we have a forum for that, and if you wish to discuss football betting we also have a forum for that. If the World Cup becomes the dominant topic in an "off-topic" thread it's not much different from the one I closed (for very good reasons that were explained in that thread) yesterday

Now I have no problem with posters expressing gratitude for UrbanSea's contributions to the forum. However I will not tolerate further discussion of modding or feedback and the like here. I've already issued enough warnings - take it to PM if you want anything clarifying (although I'm off to bed now so don't expect a reply too quickly!)

It's hard to take seriously when people are putting up their fancies rather than actual tips.

I understand that there is a soccer forum in place, however I can't stand the attitudes of the regular posters in that forum, likewise a lot of people here and I'm sure I speak for those people when I say we'd rather not use it. The World Cup is a huge event for any sports fan and, in my opinion, I think you jumped the gun in talking about how we use this thread. We had a small discussion about our fancies (we are gamblers at the end of the day) and you got worried about the amount we were talking because you closed a thread earlier. You didn't even give us a chance. You went straight in with the warning and that's where the issue lies with a lot of us.

I understand there are site rules, and I probably will get in trouble for this post, but I had to say it. Horse Racing is one of very few fora I use around here these days and it'd be a shame that I can't discuss the World Cup briefly with those I've got to know over the last couple of years rather than with the people who think they know all and shoot you down like a lot of people in the Soccer forum just because your opinion varies with theirs.

There's a reason why we wanted to chat about it here and not there. When people were posting in OT threads in various fora about the Eurovision there was little done about it, why should the World Cup be any different?

I know you said PM the issues, but the issues at hand here should tell you exactly why a feedback forum is needed and why things need to be aired out on a public forum rather than talking to you privately because to be honest, talking privately does nothing but make sure that the poster doesn't get in trouble for posting publically.

I can see why this is the case for a lot of people. I infrequently use the soccer forum. Make a post without giving lines of reasoning and you'll be jumped on. Same if someone simply disagrees with you. Say anything slightly outlandish and you'll be crucified. The place is just a score settling arena with 2/3 'cliques' attacking infrequent posters.

The gambling forum is full of, for want of a better word, imbeciles putting on 25 team group betting accumulators and the like with an overround of about 250%. Any decent posts in there gets lost in the clouds of mugs. This place consists of by far the highest gambling IQ on the site and thus is the best place to discuss World Cup bets and the like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,024 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

Anyway, this place will fall apart without Urban. Nobody to put the time and effort into creating topics for discussion. Many of the older crowd have already stopped posting. I'm sure some will stop soon. Wait until the tips thread has its inevitable downturn in form and you'll have all the hangers on jumping ship. Nobody to start daily racing threads. Then tumbleweed..

Its a strange one because you can see from the amount of new posters in the tips thread or the daily ones coming on to thank rossom etc, the amount of viewers this forum gets daily must be massive given that the majority obviously wont take the time to sign up. You'd think that loads of traffic is exactly what the boards hierarchy want.

Its been fun and we've made a shiit-tonne of money! Kudos

Beasty has give you two options to discuss the WC and betting.

    1) The open Gambling forum, which has a sub section for Footballing bet.

    2) The private Soccer forum, which is self explanatory.

You also mentioned, discussing the World Cup briefly, but when multiple people wade in basically take over the thread with WC talk where do you want the talk to go?

For example, if any of the Sports Forums starts discussing other sports in length, and there was a forum for that sport, theyed also be warned to take it over to that forum, whether or not they liked the forum, thats the point of splitting out all the forums and not have them bogged down with talk thats not related to the forum topic.

Peoples issue with the Soccer Forum is fairly redundant for the WC, for the most part, if you stick the World Cup threads below,

    Super thread : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057131741
    Prediction thread : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057227870

You're avoiding all the tribal aspect of the forum as it has pretty much no place in those threads.

GAV, whats your opinion on this given the massively successful 'hot girls of euro 2012' thread that was happily allowed in the soccer forum?

This all leaves a very bitter after taste. And sounds very aggressive for the most part, Best of Luck Urban pleasure.

Gav, we can read. Really, the condescending tone is not necessary. Just because he gave us two options does not mean it shouldnt be up for discussion and quite frankly, the issue I raised where he never gave us a chance has not been addressed.

Royal Ascot is next week, so this forum wouldn't be dominated by WC talk.

As for the hot women threads supposedly not being allowed, what about the Divas thread in the Pro Wrestling forum?

Agreed, some absolute spoof too, now obviously it's great that a lot of them are winning but there is a 0.00001% chance that some of the people that claim they are getting yard info actually are.

Hi tom, this is something that Urban and myself have looked into and have addressed on numerous occasions. If you, or any other poster, notice this again, could you please report the post so that we can take a look at it. Often things can get overlooked, so reporting such posts would really help us. Thanks.

Where do we want it to go.....
Multiple people wading in?? Can only a limited number of posters discuss it or something?

It didnt take over the thread, it was discussed. There was a page or 2 of comments.

Anyone looking in on the modding here would automatically assume the WC has been the only topic discussed on this thread for a months.
The WC starts on Thursday, the subject was discussed, a wide range of posters
commented on thread over a period of a few hours.
    Hardly excessive stuff like.

Suppose there will be no more talking of alcohol on weekends as a lot of posters might wade in talking it too

Any regulars will know on the off topic thread everything from alcohol, american football, burrito,s, hangovers, women, soccer et all has been discussed with good banter. Its rarely one subject has dominated the thread for long. There has been a total over reaction once again, and unfortunatly it has cost the forum urbansea, and a lot of other regular posters, it is rather shameful.

The thing is any tip I get I do not want to say where I got it from as if I do I will not get any more from that person/yard.it would seem like that is the way with s lot of people

I don't think there's need to disclose where you got the tip; something along the lines of 'I got a tip for X in Y race at Z course'. I think the problem with the thread in the past was that people just gave a horse, race and course without stating whether it was a tip and fancy, and there was general concession that fancies should be excluded and have it a 'tips only' thread.
