I think combining the 2 attacks worked well for TV. If I didn't know what happened already it would have been massively exciting seeing the Wall attacked from 2 sides at once

On another note, I think this season could have spaced things out a little better.

There is still a lot of important moments to cover in a short space of time. They could have had an initial smaller battle with the wildlings last episode, and then squeezed in Stannis arriving and the election into this one. Thereby wrapping up the storyline at the wall and freeing up room in the season finale.

The inclusion of so much book 5 stuff and pointless Missandei/Grey Worm filler could have been cut to allow the more important story lines time to breathe, and not cramming every climax into the last 2-3 episodes.

In fairness they killed Joffrey much earlier than the books to have an early season big death, and also moved Lysa MoonDoor from its final chapter book slot to mid season Ep7.
So they did attempt to fix some of the problems with the pacing of ASoS, how successful they've been is obviously open to opinion.

    Episode Ten Preview spolier :
Oathkeeper making an appearance next week by the look of it. Looks like its set up for Brienne and the hound to have a showdown.

I immediately think people who do this sort of thing are thick as pig ****.

I don't think Brienne and The Hound will fight.

The Hound is supposed to end up wounded or dead. Why would Brienne allow Arya to get away and make her way to Bravoss. I'd say it's more just the way the clip was edited.

Most likely event is some sort of separate action for Brienne and The Hound/Arya.

I'd imagine The Hound to be attacked again on the road, by more of Hoath/Lockes gang (if any remain?). And Brienne to maybe bump into someone possibly a bandit group or BwoB.

I also think delaying the election etc til next season will happen and that we won't actually see a "battle" when Stannis arrives. A few knights charging, and routing the wildlings and then some kind of cliffhanger to be resolved next season, where we will see the aftermath of the battle.

I'd say the fight at the wall will get desparate, wildlings approach in numbers, not enough arrows/oil to put them down Jon is meeting with Mance and the Calvary arrive. Watch cry out Stannis Stannis! We see the man himself and his knights ride in a bit, then Mance threatens Jon for a cliffhanger.

I was totally shocked when Pyp died. Wow. Didn't see it coming. And Grenn. It's good that they died to give us readers some drama. And I think with Stannis and Mance coming to the wall, there would have been no time for them on screen with Jon.

Still a pity that he has lost his two best buds though.

They do meet during the episode, you can tell it's her armour.

Do you mean the shot at like 00:16 ish of someones shoulder?

Looks more like someone in a leather jerkin rather than armour. It could literally be anyone.

Took them a long fecking time to drop the barrels on the mammoth

The pauldron cuts down around her arm the same way and the chevrons in the plate are there.

Fair enough! Looking at the still you posted it's much easier to tell.

In the video I still think it looks more like leather. But I cant deny the design is the exact same.

So it seems they do indeed fight! It will make Aryas getaway a little more messy I think. Not sure it's nessecary?

What were Briennes plans meant to be if she did actually find one of the Starks? Lysa is dead, Winterfell ruined, she can't go back to Kings Landing and neither of them are likely to trust a freakishly big woman searching for them with a letter from the King

Can't wait for next week after seeing the trailer, looks it'll be full of huge events.

As has been said, the crossbow, the Hound, the Wall, Stannis arriving,...

Presumably it was to take them to the Vale, Lysa is dead but the Vale lords were still friendly to the Starks and Tullys. Either that or Dorne(though she nevers considers it), I don't think the Martells ever blamed Ned Stark for what went on with Elia, I think they recognised he had lost as much as them in it.

He was on record as having opposed the killing of Aegon etc. and wanted to send Jaime to the Wall, he even returned Dawn to Starfall after the ToJ.

seriously don't have a rule not next ep talk in these threads

heres a very basic question but why are the freemen attacking the south just for better land/living or is there something pushing them south too?

I think you're in the wrong thread, this is the reader's one.

Recall Season 1 Episode 1. The rangers come across a wildling village that had been massacred by the Others. They've returned, the free folk's only means of survival is to get south.

But, I'll read a book no problem, but I flat out refuse to read telly... Fućk that!

Even if it is the wrong the thread they were in I'd appreciate not seeing trailers/screenshots of the next episode in the previous episode's thread. Even though I've read the books I like to go in as blind as possible and there's enough different in the show that I don't fully know what's coming.
    Brienne fighting the hound
being a key example, surely it makes more sense to start an episode ten thread to dissect the trailer for episode ten?

Only just watched the episode there, thought it was brilliantly staged. Bummed that Grenn and Pyp are gone, thought it was going to be Thorne heading for the tunnel myself, particularly after him showing a bit of respect towards Jon and vise versa. At least Grenn goy a hero's death though, more than most get in asotaf that's for sure.

Must say my heart broke a little bit when Jon smiled at Ygritte before she was shot :(

Not really much point making another thread because of the 1/2 people who'll complain about it...stop complaining Mickeroo!:pac: It can be hard keeping track of the threads as it is, you'd end up with 4 on the go at once plus the one's from the previous week being bumped up like the 'Mountain and the Viper' one which saw some posting today. Doesn't matter to me either way but you'll have people mixing the threads up even more..did it myself last night with only two threads.

Westeros.org have a good system with each having a subforum but they're all just thrown together here with *HAVE READ*/*HAVE NOT* being the only difference in the titles.

The majority are cool with it, the minority can move:pac:

If people were a bit more careful I don't see why more threads would be a problem there's 9 of them from this season, hasn't caused much confusion yet. I'm highly against trailers in general these days and I don't think it's as big a minority who don't want things spoiled as you think.

As I said, I don't mind but you have unintentional cross posting/viewing atm with just the two..add in another two threads plus the one's from the previous week and it will be more confusing..you can't really say it wouldn't...it's more threads on the go..mistakes will be made. The thread titles are too similar really, they all follow the same template with a minor variation; HAVE NOT vs. HAVE READ.

I got it wrong myself last night and posted a spoiler in the non reader thread and it was a miracle I looked up at the browser headline right after I posted it or I would have closed the tab. It was only up about 5 seconds and nobody mentioned seeing it but even some of the non readers have said they clicked into our thread by mistake and ruined things for themselves.

I think it's a bit hasty to be changing the system that has worked for the last 4 years, next week is the only epsiode that has caused this issue. I don't recall it being a problem with the Craster's Keep arc which was show only, some people were calling that the second the season trailer was out.

I'm fairly sure in previous years the thread for next week was made right after the last one ended, at least last year. The forum hasn't been around for 4 years.

There's not much point changing the system at this stage of the season but next year it would be a good idea. I removed my post which spoiled an scene of next week's episode and I apologise to those who would rather not have had it spoiled.

I'll take an infraction/ban for it if the mods so wish.

Best battle scene in the show so far?

My opinion Yes, the kings landing one looked very cheap in my opinion, this one looked great.

I think it was done better than the Book, so edgy whilst the Book felt like it went on forever with the negotiations and what not.

Those 100 men in castle black sure did die bravely a couple of times each.

This was my main gripe with the episode. They spent time emphasizing how few men they had before the attack then they go and show so many being killed and then so many still standing at the end. Fight at crasters was similar re numbers/fight duration.

Other than that thought it was pretty well done. Loved the scythe!

Was the Maganar of Thenn killed in the book? Bit hazy on it myself.

yeah, it seemed like Ygritte, the Magner and Tormund could have killed 100 between them the way they were going

Especially liking the way the used the boy to kill Ygritte rather than leaving it unknown like in the books

Just listening to a podcast there who counted out all the NW deaths - and got to 30 on screen approx.

Having discussion of each episode in it's own thread isn't changing the system, it is the system :p Each episode thread tends to have the trailer in the first post as it is so it would just entail starting it a few days earlier.

Also I can't think of anyone apart from yourself doing any accidental cross posting :pac:

No one's looking for you to be infracted or anyone else, I was just asking for a bit of consideration that some of us still like to have a few surprises in the show still. :)
