Excellent episode, probably my favourite so far and really surpassed the Blackwater. Can't believe the series is almost over though. Really hoping Lady Stoneheart makes an appearance. I've seen photos of Michelle Fairley in costume so fingers crossed its for this season.

No pictures have been released or even leaked of LS, it's not even certain she will appear. The pic of her with her throat cut is from last season.

:( I had my hopes up, really hopes she appears, what a way to end the season for those who haven't read the books.

I presume Stannis will be next week. I doubt they'll have time to squeeze in Arya going to Braavos, interested to see where they'll end her arc this season, maybe a cliffhanger on the Hound asking for mercy.

Anyone know who Maestor Aemon was talking about. Do we think it's significant?

They've casted 'Braavosi ship captain' for this season so she'll have to go this season.

I thinkt hey were just giving him a bit of backstory to make him human so when he dies next season people will connect with him.

There's a good bit of circumstantial evidence that she will, I personally think she will show up but ya never know.

Lady oleanna tyrell? Or her mother.

Dates wouldn't match up for Olenna, in the book timeline anyway. He joined the NW around 233AL and she was either unborn or a young child then.

So Arya is turned away at the bloody gate?

"So my aunt's dead: who's in charge?"
"Your cousin, that guy who didn't sell you out in Harrenhall, and some girl who might be your sister"
    "Nuts... better head to Essos".
    ---

Arya barely knew her Aunt so it's unlikely she knew (or ever even met) her cousin, the guards don't know who Sansa really is, and Littlefinger didn't know it was her at Harrenhall. She desperately tried to avoid him the whole time in case he gave her up to the Lannisters, she's hardly going to want to run into his arms all of a sudden! That's if the guards even told them Littlefinger was there, which I don't see why they would.

Thought the episode was only alright. Brilliantly shot but some of it annoyed me. Jon coming down the lift and immediately killing 3 or 4 guys like a boss. Gilly with the baby running past the thenn camp in full view. Nobody taking out Ollie the lift operator!! As good and all as the battles scenes were, some of the other 'love's scenes kinda grated on me. Lingering shot of Jon holding ygritte ...pure Hollywood schmalz!
Really hoping next week we get tyrion and twin and the Stoneheart reveal. Judging by the trailer for it they're gonna cram in a shedload!

The episode description for next week strongly hints at Stannis' arrival. If they do leave the election until next season I don't really see a problem with that as they've already jumped ahead with so many other storylines.

I would also be pretty confident with Lena Headey's instagram photo that we will see LS.

Someone asked me the other day which character is most behind on their story compared to the books.

    It's Arya, isn't it? That's what I said anyway

Sam and John Bradley as Sam absolutely bossed that episode. It was great too see him step up to the plate on the show. Admittedly he's one of my favourite characters anyway but he had some great lines.

Arya's pretty much in the right place..if she leaves for Braavos next week she's bang on.

If Jon doesn't get elected as LC he is behind.

The story arcs aren't moving in unison, they're behind for some and way ahead for others.

Next week's episode has some amazing potential. If they have Stannis, Tyrion/Tywin, Arya, LS and perhaps Balon Greyjoy it could possibly be the best episode of any TV show ever.

I am sad about Grenn and Pyp. Really like them in the books and the show. BUT in battles like that where people die left/right/centre, there has to be at least one loss of a known character to give weight to the slaughter, otherwise the viewer is left without much of a sense of loss. Still... they only needed to kill one!!! There was a reminder to the viewers that Aemon is a Targaryen. I'm guessing that they mean to omit Dalla at this stage (way too late to introduces a pregnant wife for Mance) and instead have it so Melisandre is solely after Aemon. Not sure how they'll explain Gilly running with her baby, maybe when Jon realises that Aemon is in danger he sends Sam off with him and he insists on taking Gilly?

Yeah I'd say that's how they tie it down. Plus Stannis won't suffer such abominations at the Wall:pac:

I imagine the Dany scene will be a short scene where they present the child's bones to her.

It was Gilly on the way to CB.

    You can see the baby at about 2:19 here;

I remember thinking it was something to do the baby swap, but I'd forgotten about it again till I read your post. Was a strange one alright.

    EDIT: GG, Blay

Great episode I thought, despite the severe lack of Stannis.

Nice use of the budget on mammoths and giants. Marshall seems to be a dab hand at doing large battle scenes too, that camera move over the battle was brilliant!

Sad to see Pyp and Grenn go, but I think it still served a narrative purpose in raising the stakes. Don't know about anyone else but I got chills when the brothers recited their vows in the tunnel.

On another note, I think this season could have spaced things out a little better.

There is still a lot of important moments to cover in a short space of time. They could have had an initial smaller battle with the wildlings last episode, and then squeezed in Stannis arriving and the election into this one. Thereby wrapping up the storyline at the wall and freeing up room in the season finale.

The inclusion of so much book 5 stuff and pointless Missandei/Grey Worm filler could have been cut to allow the more important story lines time to breathe, and not cramming every climax into the last 2-3 episodes.
