Jon using a blacksmith hammer to kill The Magnar was ****ing awesome, was that an ode to Donal Noye?

So Arya is turned away at the bloody gate?

"So my aunt's dead: who's in charge?"
"Your cousin, that guy who didn't sell you out in Harrenhall, and some girl who might be your sister"
    "Nuts... better head to Essos".
    ---

Stannis at the end of the last episode I reckon - 10 seconds in a flurry of cavalry and banners; just enough that we see that it's Stannis, and that Jon Snow will not be killed.

No Stoneheart, no Iron Islands - how would there be time?

Dany gets a 30 second look in for one reason or another. Hopefully to do with war rather than Grey Worm romance talk.

    and Tyrion Tyrion Tyrion

Hope we don't get bogged down in Chrildren of the Forest stuff - it's so far ahead in terms of the books and feels kind of irrelevant at the moment... but unfortunately the title hints otherwise.

In fairness Arya has no reason to trust Littlefinger and the guards won't know about Sansa.

She night head to Castle Black first?

    Great episode.

Why are they showing Slynt to be such a coward? I don't remember that.

Poor Grenn and the boys, that was probably my favourite scene. Very powerful with them saying the words.

Ser Alliser fought like a boss! I wasn't expecting that!

They've loads to cover next week!

I thought that was cool, he's been such a dickhead since season 1 as the angry leader but when it came down to it he was well able to kick arse so it wasn't all talk.

    Haven't watched it yet but my friend who hasn't read the books said to me today;

"I started Game Of Thrones today. The first was Sam and Jon talking on the Wall, it was really boring so I stopped."

I'd say they're showing Slynt being a coward so audiences will hate him even more and when Jon beheads him he'll seem like the big hero. It'll mirror Ilyn Payne chopping poor oul Neds head off.

It was really cool. He looked like he was born to swing a sword, some fancy moves thrown in and somehow he looked a lot fitter than I'd imagined him to be.

    "Ned Ned nayra head
Lived with honour, now he's dead.."
Totally irrelevant I know but when genius like that strikes the masses must be informed:-)

Just watched it and found it alright.
Didnt find it soooo great now, the best part I found, was when Jon met Ygritte. I love her expressions, such a good actress :)

Kinda sad about Glen and Pyp tho :(

Found it alright, 6 oujt of 10!

Those battle scenes were great, like something you'd see in LOTR. First 15 or so minutes were slow, all action after that. One thing that annoyed me a little bit was they made the wall look smaller than usual, it used to take ages in the book to get from top to bottom in the lift iirc? And the climbers were making quick progress.

Slynt doesn't fight in the books at all, himself and Thorne arrive after Jon Snow has been holding off the attack on the wall for several days.

Maester Aemon stops Slynt and Thorne from hanging Jon for breaking his oaths, and instead they send him out to kill Mance Raydar (assuming he'll die trying).

Great episode, so disappointed they didn't have Stannis arriving though. Would have made it epic.

Worried about next episode...are they going to leave some of the big stuff until next series or is it all going to be very rushed??

Edit: Meant to say, I loved the giants and mammoths. Awesome!

Yeah, I know it goes down differently in the books, but we are never actually given such a blatant view of Slynt physically hiding from a fight in the books are we?

Janos Slynt/Thorne aren't even at the Wall for the battle, they arrive after Jon has held it and still accuse him of being a traitor.

The opportunity never really comes up, although he does refuse to go and take over one of the other castles (Greyguard?).

Really hope stannis is in next weeks episode

Really good episode. Sky's description for next week's episode mentions an unexpected arrival. Has to be the Lady I presume; or Stannis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,482 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

Stannis, the synopsis says it's an 'unexpected arrival north of the Wall'

Great episode, really enjoyed it. Loved the giant tearing down the tunnel towards the gate with the six reciting the oath!

Anyone else notice a weird camera zoom shot down the wall at one stage, focusing on the climbers? I'm a bit like Jon Snuuu in that I know nothing (about filming) but seemed a strange shot in the middle of it?

Well that made me smile. The big question about next week is will we see Lady Stoneheart or not.........

Those 100 men in castle black sure did die bravely a couple of times each.

Have to say I'm a little disappointed. Yes it was entertaining but that's all it was. It did very little in story progression. I guess they killed Pyp and Grenn because in the books Jon sends them away, but I was still shocked they died.

I guess I'm most disappointed because where does this leave next weeks episode? Stannis has to be in it along with all the Kings Landing stuff, maybe it's going to be a two hour season finale.

I feel they should have spilt the two battles like they did in the books. They could easily have swapped the pointless battle of the mutineers at Casters for The Wildings Attracting Castle Black. Leaving this episode to feature Stannis and the likes.

Next week is all about the Imp spearing Tywin in the guts, surely.

    Fúcking hell

Great episode. The arrow thing was awesome!

as said above, I was ready for Ygritte, poor girl. BUt Pyp and Grenn? No no

Next week's episode is 66 minutes long. Still don't think it's going to cover everything that I want it to!!!

I have to agree with this, we're either going to get an extremely diluted version of all the events left from ASOS next week, or a load of those events will be pushed to season 5. Which to be honest wouldn't surprise me, there's not an awful lot of action for season 5 so pushing stuff over would make it more interesting.

I think we'd have heard if there'd be a 2 hour finale by now. :(

The Battle of Castle Black didn't really advance the story in the books either, it's not until Stannis arrives and Mance is captured that things move on.

Next week is an extra 15min long.

They pretty much did split the battle, there was hardly any threat from the north side of the Wall, most of the fighting went on south of it. Same as the books, fighting in the courtyard and they just drop a few barrels off the north side..Mance never brings his full strength to bear on the Wall, he plans to but Stannis arrives first. Same thing is happening here.
