Fairly easy to reset the password though, which is nice as I've never once remembered it.

Why do people get so pissed off at this one password ?

Everyone seems to have trouble with it

Thanks for bringing that lineup to my attention...pleasantly surprised. Looks like Electric Picnic isn't even touching it this year.

Seriously though - I'd rather the inconvenience of forgetting a password than the risk of someone getting free reign to my bank account just knowing a few numbers.

It always asks me for a ninth character and I dont even have a ninth character in my password. This is hella annoying having to go back and try put the order through again.

So few websites use 'verified by Visa' that there is usually a few months gap at least between uses of it so one tends to forget it.

Its getting more and more common so get used to it. Merchant aquirers usually insist on it and businesses wont be able to transact online if they dont add it to the website.
For what its worth its a very good tool to prevent fraud.

They should really just cut out the intermediate process entirely and ask you directly to respond to an email to confirm your identity.

I save it in the notepad app on my phone.

Sure no ones ever hacked an email account have they?

I can remember it but I always have to count on my fingers to figure out which letter or number they want. And then I loose count and have to start over.

Why do people have so much trouble with this one password? It's probably one of the more important passwords, especially as security measures like this are only going to get more and more common.

It's a false dilemma you're presenting. If someone has hacked your email account they can just reset the password. No difference.

The fiip side of the "verified by visa" is the fact that it shifts the liability for fraudulent transactions back onto the customer. Whereas previously it was the retailer who took the loss.

The other big problem with the system is how it is implemented - typically as a pop-up (so no address bar) or as an i-frame in a site. This makes it much more difficult for the average user to identify the source of the password page - is it the bank or is it a phishing page.

So potentially if a user had their details scammed they might have a lot more trouble getting the money back because the "verified by visa" password was used.

I think it's because it's one of the least commonly used ones, for me anyway.

I would reset my password each time on any site I don't visit that often anyway.

Lately I tried to use visa debit cards online
They had never been set up for verified by Visa, but as far as that system was concerned they had. So I couldn't answer the reset password questions because I hadn't set them up! I get locked out, on two cards, and had to phone the bank to get them cleared. Funnily enough they weren't surprised by this glitch.
