Real will buy whoever has a standout world cup and doesnt currently play for Barcelona.

Any chance of Messi doing a Figo and braving the pig's heads? Dont think he is 100 enamoured with his current employers. Would sort out our Suarez issues.

I wouldn't look at signing a Madrid player as part of the deal. I don't think its a good circumstance for a player to come to a club as a makeweight in a transfer.

When is the last time such a situation has occured?

I don't think a player of Modric would ever be a makeweight, he's probably worth £50m in his own right and pretty much any top European side would have him, not to mention City or Chelsea if the opportunity arose. Modric is Croatian and is not culturally linked to Spain.. He has already excelled in the PL with Spurs and has improved even further with Madrid. He would fit seamlessly into Brendan Rogers system and in fact enhance it, when teams like Chelsea park the bus Modric is the type of player that will crawl under it or through it. If Modric was open to the idea of a return to England then it's definitely something we should pursue. Suarez gives us the opportunity to make it happen, such is the nature of any horse trading in the market.

I don't think he would turn down Madrid if they came calling and I think it looks like they are about to come calling.

8/1 on us to win the CL is funny though. We're more like 40/1 I'd imagine, without checking.

    @PetterVeland
El Desmarque: The last issues between Liverpool and Sevilla has been settled, and they believe the fee for Alberto Moreno will be €20+2M.

If it's true, its great to see the club get these deals for their preferred players out of the way nice and quickly.

A CB and either Lallana or Shaqiri (why not both) and I think that's us done and dusted.

8/1 is ridiculous but 40/1 is pretty ridiculous too IMO.

I can't see us being longer than 25s, I reckon we will be about 20.

We will be around 7th or 8th favorites, 40/1 would be a very generous price and well worth a punt imo

Moreno, Can and Lambert so that's half the £60m budget.

Get Lovern and Lallana and that's probably the rest of the budget.

I'd be very happy with that building the the strenght of the first 11 and squad.

I'd say we get £25m from player sales and that will be used to buy a wing/forward.

I said yesterday we really don't need a marquee signing as long as we keep hold of Suarez he is our marquee player.

28/1 is the biggest price, definitely not 7th or 8th favs either.

Sevilla LB Alberto Moreno has reached an agreement with LFC to sign a five 5 contract after a fee was agreed by both the clubs.

    boom!

    Good bit of business.

Moreno is a good signing and Can will be a very tidy bit of business too. Fair play

What does this mean for Enrique do you think? Will he fight it out Moreno or will he find himself somewhere else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,953 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

well Moreno certainly improves the first 11.

Can and Lambert give some much needed depth.

now, get Lallana, then a first choice CB, and we'll have done the minimum needed from this window IMO.

Flanno over to his natural position and Enrique and Moreno to fight for the left?

Genuinely curious as to what the difference between this window and the last two. Impressive and exciting.

Its great if the Moreno signing is completed, a problem area that is being addressed. Might not excite many fans but at least we are not relying on a right back to cover for Enrique.

Last 16 with a shot at the quarter finals I'd take that for our first year back in the CL.

I'd say Enrique hands will be full managing Barcelona anyways.

For those who like the stat bomb pictures.

Here is Henderson and Can's. Kind of looks like the would compliment each other to me.

Why so many Enrique "managing Barca" jokes, and so few Lambert "managing Villa/being a french action hero" jokes?

    Odd anomaly i've noticed...

I agree with Nuri I wouldn't want Benzema in any deal. (If Suarez leaves)

I also agree if Suarez leaves he won't be replaced with a striker it will be a wing/forward in the lines of Sanchez.

Sturridge will become the focal point of the forward line with wing/forwards joining him in attack. (If Suarez leaves)

yup, i dont want Benzema either...

A CB was the main priority for me bar a fullback.

It's our defense that cost us the league and it's what needs to be addressed.

A CB will definately be signed I'd imagine.

Sorry to bring this back up from this morning, I'm not picking you out or anything just catching up.

I tend to disagree that it's the defence that's costing us rather it's how open the midfield can be when teams break on us.
Allen seems to be injury prone and can't be relied on and Lucas and Gerrard are not the most mobile anymore. All that leaves only Henderson with the inclination to track back but he is not a great tackler.
And the way Ridgers set the midfield up at times , with it being very attack minded with Countiho and I think even Sterling being in the middle three also contributed to the defence being exposed on a regular basis.
Not to say that Sterling and Countihno never helped out, they did but not consistently enough and that's understandable as they need their energy for the other direction.
All that left the defence under pressure in almost every game and I recall a stat that Mignolet at one stage had the most saves, suggesting he was also exposed a lot. I'd be surprised if he wasn't up there for the most saves made out the top ten keepers. Add to the amount of goals conceded and it suggests a defence being put under pressure regularly and a midfield offering inconsistent cover due to their offensive bent.
The signing of Can and the regular linking with lallana suggest that Rodgers is looking for players that can carry the ball forward but also be very effective in tracking back and busting a gut in trying to relieve the defence.
I would be happy with the in,y defensive signings being full backs that are playing I. Their natural positions and offer more going forward.
Id rather replace Johnson and Enrique with better options, than replacing our 4-5 (7 if we include Wisdom and Illori) centre backs. I believe Sakho can be a huge player next for us and Agger and Skrtel are still very able players.

It's all quite possible that I'm talking shoite but how would I know, I'm a sap.

First thing that struck me watching that Can highlight video is that he doesn't seem to know when to release the ball. Gets himself in some great positions only to go nowhere or take a silly shot instead of squaring. Hopefully Rodgers can stamp that out.
