It's small enough, bout 4 inches in diameter, right in the middle of the boot, so shouldn't be too hard to get out. It's very shallow. Thing is, it's been there at least 18 months, so would it not be "set" in that position, and not want to pop out again? Don't think we have a plunger around :o

Too small for a plunger so! If it was done yesterday, or a few years ago, a dents a dent it won't be inclined to come out without a bit of persuasion.

Can you reach behind the dent? Ie tear out the lining and see where it's indented.....?

Ya, I can get to it. Takes a while to find it, because it's so shallow! It's only when you step away from the car it becomes more noticeable.

Just watching a segment on RTE News about lads doing donuts on public roads at night. They state that anyone caught can have their car taken from them,I've yet to hear of anybody being caught.
It was rampant on a stretch of road near a mate's house,so one night while 30 - 40 cars congregated on the road,he drove up & down it at 50kph for nearly an hour until they got bored & fecked off.

I just watched the 6.1 news there and didnt see it, was it TV3 news maybe?

Have you tried to persuade it out gently?

Try a length of wood the right size and work your way in, hitting said wood not too hard. If it's as you describe (shallow with no crinkles/paint damage) it should come out easy enough. Unless it's on a bend in the metal!

Clutch gave up yesterday on the M1. At least it picked a fantastic scenic place to break down and beautiful weather to match

So the 406 is now on the retirement list. I can get a clutch but meh, not arsed. Want to stray away from diesel as if it isn't mechanical injection, I don't want to know :pac:

I have my next car sitting to one side anyway. Just needs some assembly :P I suppose I could use one of the complete yokes I have at the ready but wheres the fun in that ;)

The moar shmoke machine is dead

I had a good look and think about what I'm going to do with dents in the golf boot today. Ive decided that in my eyes 500 quid is just to much to spend to get the two small dents done. So I'm going to do a diy job on it :) So I seen that autoglym do a paint renovator so that should remove the really light scratches. Then I'm going to take the plastic of the inside of the boot and I figure I can push out mod of the bigger dent. The small one at the bottom of the boot I can't do much with it.

As for the paint I'm going to get a touch up pen and give the whole thing a polish and hopefully it will look a bit better anyway. Whatever way the boot is on the golf the dents aren't actually that noticeable its the marks on the paint that draw your eye to it. If I can just make it a bit less in your face ill be happy I don't expect it to be perfect by any means. Do the Vw garages stock them touch up pens or are they special order. Ive heard there better than the halfords ones. Anyone ever use them.

    PDR man PDR

    PDR man PDR

Can still be done if the paint is damaged. So you think I should get PDR done and then use a touch up pen on it. Surly you'd still be into big money PDR though.

ill get a few quotes myself and see what there like. my point about the money is not point in spending 300 quid on PDR and still having to touch up the paint if i can get it done and sprayed in a body shop for 400 euro. So for PDR to be worth while it would want to be a good bit cheaper that way I can get the dents removed touch up the paint and have saved a good bit if you know what I mean otherwise id be as well to go the whole hog and get it sprayed and have the paint perfect if it wasn't going to cost much more.

It won't be big money for your damage. And it won't cost 500 to put right. Don't do a botched job. It's not ideal when the paint us cracked - you'll have to take the risk of more cracking but it's rare enough it makes it worse. If you want to do it cheap get pdr and a smart repair.

Eddie Griffin in Cork is the best I have used. He's worth a call.

Yep just trying to weigh up all my options. I understand the concept of per but what's smart repair ?

No,it was on RTE news, they filmed it in Connemara. The road was covered in tyre marks. Not unlike virtually every wide stretch of road or crossroads nationwide.Even the Gorey bypass which is a motorway has donut marks on parts of it.

It's not ideal in a main area but it's a small area repair. It's won't be perfect but it will be better than a diy job. If the car is good I'd pay for a proper job. It will involve paint and blowing the area around it in. Shop around and you'll get a cheaper quote.

Yep I'll get a few quotes and take it from there thanks for all your help. I can live with it not being perfect but can't live with it the way it is now which I thought I would be able to as there was marks on my previous cars but this just annoys me everytime I look at it. The reason I don't want to spend huge money getting it sprayed etc in a body shop. Is I feel unfortunately it's inevitable that someone will mark it again as I live in kilkenny centre now and there quite a lot of tourists constantly passing the car even though they shouldn't even be down the road but that's another story. The problem is most of them couldnt drive a nail. So I will be happy enough if I can get PDR and SMART done so it just takes the edge off it.

This I found amusing, I tried getting a quote on a car that is, older, slower, smaller engined than my saab, it's a 91 2 litre, and I can't be quoted on it  could just about get a policy on my one now as it was a "high performance veeehickle" so I wonder what the excuse will be with this one

"well it's the same age as yourself, and the oul tax isn't great on it now is it? you'd be better off with a nice oul corsa"

    Insurance is ****ing weird.

It depends on what people are stuffing into hedges rather than on what the actual performance of the car is. If more people from your area/demographic crash that particular model, they won't quote for it. Surprisingly, Saabs tend not to be stuffed by anyone, even fast ones. While cheaper, or more accessible cars can have higher accident rates

I was quoted more to insure a 1.8 Passat, than an Rx-8, for example.

It has actually baffled me, you'd think something as fast as my 9-5 or your rx-8 would be a no go area for most age groups, 1500 later and i'm insured with more perks than i can count, but i can't get insured on the car i tried, it's funny, it's only got 90bhp, non turbo and not in any sense sporty, compared to the likes of our cars :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,424 ✭✭✭Dartz

I think it's because muppets tend not to buy and crash the more unusual sporty cars. I'm 27, with 3 years named driving experience, and Allianz gave me a fully-comped and perked policy for 1300. (Aviva quoted me 2.2 so it wasn't all roses)

Maybe it's because owners tend to treat the proper sports cars better or something. I really don't know. While others tend to be either driven, or stolen, by the usual muppet-brigade.

most insurers won't quote for cars in daily use that are over 20 years old
