Wonder what the charities will go with the windfall? Bonuses and parties all around I'd say.

If that was me, I'd buy 50 million scratch cards :pac:

And you'd probably end up winning only about half of it back. :pac:

    No. I'm Irish.

I've always said this is what I'd do - nobody needs that kind of money. I don't think I'd sleep with the guilt of sitting that pile of cash, I'd only want enough that I never had to work again.

It's all well and good saying I'd be that noble though, great to see someone actually do it. Fair play that man.

Pretty much sums up how I feel about it also. I always say I'd keep enough to keep me real comfortable for life. But to actually see someone do it is fantastic. Good news story of the day by far. Makes you wonder though about the wealthiest 1% on this planet and how they continue to add billions to their bloated wallets.

Do you speak French? Perhaps we could write a joint letter on behalf of the poor in Ireland us! :D

I find it hard to believe a cent of that will reach the people who actually need it. I'd love to be wrong and some of it probably will, but only a tiny amount of what was given.

My problem these days is that you dont know were the money is going once you donate it. I would like to do "Secret Millionaire" type thing an go and meet the people in need and give me help that way. Without the cameras and recognition.

I wish I was in a position to give away 50m!

I've always said this is what I'd do -
I'd like to think I'd be able to do it too or at least spread it out amongst family and even though 22 million is more than enough for any person, it must be so hard to have that sitting in your bank account and hand the largest chunk of it away. Fair play to him.

man who scooped more than €72m on the EuroMillions lottery has decided to give €50m of his jackpot to charity.
The unidentified winner from the Haute-Garonne area of southwestern France said he will share his win between around ten NGOs working on behalf of the disadvantaged.

Fair play to him, kind of restores my faith in human nature.:)

Someone has to pay the salaries of the charity CEOs I suppose.

He would be doing a far better thing to have setup his own charity and used the money to directly target those areas he cares about.

Just giving the money away to charity only server to make himself feel good about himself, its not taking any real direct action.

He's taking ~€50,000,000 more action than any of us here, no matter how you slice it.

That's pretty much what my wife and I have said we'd do if we ever came into such a ridiculous amount of cash.

That's more than a tad judgemental. You have no idea what his situation is. Maybe he's disabled and doesn't feel he'd be able to do it. He has a shortlist of ten NGOs he wants to divide his money between - he can't exactly take direct action with all of them.

Or maybe he just wants to fnck off and go on a round the world cruise then retire to some beach, but he knows he doesn't need €72m to do that.

I don't understand this need to denigrate other people actions by claiming, "They're not doing everything they could do, therefore what they're doing is pointless". No matter what he is or isn't doing personally, he's providing €49m more to charities than you ever will.

You do realize that most countries actually do strictly regulate their charity sector, tad judgemental to presume that the French as shoddy at it as we clearly are.

Fair play to him. I wish I was in a similar position. I always said if I won a lot of money in the likes of the Euromillions I'd give a big chunk to charity but would also employ someone to ensure that the money was properly spent and those on need benefitted most and not fat car CEOs and Executives.

I think Id prefer to set up a charity, some Id be more comfortable giving a monthly cheque on the back of reliable audits showing how much it was costing to administer the charity and ensuring maximum goes to the needy and ending suffering rather then maintaining their situations so the job requires to be continual. Id allow individuals to make submissions for assistance to aid getting out of debt for people who might not be ordinarily eligible for charity, removing a small sum of money they cant get out from could have huge benefits, and if you were wrong, you'll be earning thousands in interest so just giving away what you are raking in. Could give charity where its needed through organisations too, but Id want to know where the money was being spent, bonuses and high paying positions would mean Id give it to some group feeding the poor or start one myself, no one needs that much money.

It'd be a lifetime job giving it away, I like to think it could be used to set up a permanent organisation to help people,
Makes me think, what did that person from Limerick do with their euromillions? anything come of that?

FFS, the guy gives €50mil to charity & still gets dissed by some of the miserable fookahs in AH, the mind boggles

    It's not good enough.

He should have spent the rest of his life travelling around in a van with bags of cash, personally handing it to people in need and working with them to rebuild their lives and teach them the skills they need to make the most of it.

Just handing over €50 million to NGOs? Sure he might as well have lit it on fire and kicked all the poor people in the face.

He should have setup a charity.

In my experience, over half of all charitable donations go to admin and management. Working for a charity is up there with working for the council in job security.

I was just thinking the same thing. I would have set up my own charity and run it myself.
At the same time fair play to him,his heart is in he right place.
