Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You should have a look in your local chippers. I have found many have started doing deals in the past year or so, years ago it was rare enough to find a genuine deal in chippers. Many started doing lunch deals, and some have done special day deals on off peak days, or deal of the month. Years ago many "meals" in chippers were just the same price as buying the drink, chips & burger all separately, or a mere 20c saving.

This goes for chinese & indian takeaways too, many chinese places now offer "snack boxes" with a few bits of everything and a scoop of chips and a small sauce and a can.

Europa chipper in deansgrange (near bakers corner) dublin does a fish & chips on wednesday for €5.50 (not the square cod portion). They do a 2 piece chicken snack box for €4 on thursday.

Guys lets get the deal right.

This is for ITICA chippers, not just a bargain for all chippers.
There are possibly more non-ITICA chippers taking part than there are ITICA members though. You can check previous years threads to search for your local.
    ted1 wrote: »
so if your chipper uses frozen chips, then don't bother mentioning them in this thread,
And I am talking about real chippers -to me, a place that uses frozen chips is by definition not a chipper. Like abras or mcdonalds, I would call them takeaways, or fast food places.

Somewhere will still do it though. Huge number of non-members jump on the bandwagon; mainly because a lot of them do the same deal or damn close one day every week anyway.

Burdocks used get insanely busy between 5pm-8pm. Be prepared for a 20-30 minute queue at peak times.

Apparently Leo Burdocks aren't on the list. Nm.
burdocks is the heineken of chippers, everyone thinks its lovely but there is much better available

Be prepared to queue for longer than you'd queue at a chipper at 3am on the morning after Stephens Day...

We have Lennoxs and KC's to make up for it :D

I have lived in Cork and Dublin and I can honestly say there is nothing like KCs in Dublin.... yum!!!

Getting the impression that this may not be worth it considering the queues and the questionable savings, but have done it other years and may just have a look later

I've frequently chippers in Swords other years and while there was a long queue, they fairly chucked them out. It's the folks who don't ask for fish & chips that slow it all up.

whatever your views it is a spectacular PR sucess for them every year and shows how P.T. Barnum was right

it is a Wednesday, probably a day when Take aways do very little business. Today they will have queues and money coming out their ears!!

local chipper is usually out of fish by afternoon

:D Maybe the poster just makes their own fish and chips in the deep fat fryer at home, that way they technically haven't had "takeaway" !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭sham69

Just had a lovely smoked cod and chips and it was huge...
4.70 in The KingFisher on Parnell street.
Need a sleep now, but boss is watching me....:D

Jaysis, no. Have a fryer all right, but it hasn't left the cupboard in probably four years. I should get rid of it.

Not a health thing. Well, maybe a bit of a health thing. It's more like a new year resolution, just to see how far through the year I can get.

It's just a test to see how far I can get. There are plenty of other things that I eat/drink that are unhealthy. I haven't drank any Coca Cola since 2008, but I'm still partial drop the occasional Club Orange or 7up/Sprite. I've cut back on my drinking, but haven't completely stopped. Plate portions have gotten smaller, but they're still too big for what I actually need. I exercise, but not as much as I could/should.

But enough about me and my strange behaviour. This thread is about fish and chips and, as I mentioned before, my takeaway fasting may come to an end this evening.

I think I got about €4.70 worth, to be honest. Was a bit disappointed with Kingfisher's.
