Independent mechanic, basically one that just works for himself, not a garage or a dealership.

Any recommendations what brand of motor oil I should get for the Bora? Castrol? Total? ...and 10w40, 15w40?

    Not castrol.

    Mobil 1

It doesn't look like they have Mobil in micksgarage.
    Not castrol.

Why what's wrong with Castrol? They're not exactly the cheapest as well.

Not worth the brand name premium. I used nearly 17 liters (two services) of it in the 535d and, let's just say never again.

It must be the only reasonable priced part the ford dealers sell. Everytime I went in there I felt I was getting screwed and it wasn't just my local dealer as I priced around and was getting 10-15 % discount as I was known on a first name basis from being in there all the time :pac: . Went to get a shortish piece of oil intercooler pipe 100 quid, fuel filter 90 quid , oil filter the guys of 20, air filter 24 euro. I had often heard people say that ford parts were cheap I think there the opposite. Vw genuine parts are 40-50% the price for everything there very reasonable for everything.

I always use Mobil find it better than castrol. I've heard quantum oil vw dealers sell it is very reasonable so I might try that the next time.

Usually a bit pricey but cheaper than peugeot and citreon I hear ? (Same parts !)

The last fuel filter got was about 30 quid all in non OE

Was the for the focus the one with the complete metal casing not just the filter element which makes it expensive still 90 euro though. The cheapest one I seen was 60 on micksgarage.

Last fuel filters I got were €15 and €7 respectively for the truck and the carina.

Silver metal one. The older type black plastic one is cheaper alright.

And that concludes 4 years in the DIT officially (more than likely to be back for repeats). Final year was a train wreck of a year thus I feel empty leaving college....

Time to celebrate with a yard rearrangement later :D

All belts changed, waterpump done and a full service done. The car feels so responsive now. The mechanic showed me the cracks in the old belt and where it started to tear so my timing was good, €150 for labour and oil+ flush was €70. I supplied all the other parts and fluids.

    Hi folks,
Quick question... Is the fusebox on a 2001 vw bora inside the drivers door seal on the dash or is it under the steering wheel like a normal car?
    Cheers!

DOEing the vans working out pricey.

    111 for the test
    43 for the re test.
Set of rear springs 160 (one broken)
    brake load valve 120
    front wishbone bushes 35
Bit of labour to set tracking and pressing bushes 60
    reg plate connector 1 euro

    550ish all in

There goes any craic for the next few weeks :(. None of them are really parts you can get second hand either apart from the reg plate bulb conector which I got for a euro. Tax is out in three days too.

He didn't notice the moog track rod end has split already. Only lasted a year .

It's on the inside of the dashboard when you open the drivers door. It is on a golf anyway :).

Hey, asking this for a friend

Anyone know of an insurer that would insure him on a BMW 535D? I used to recommend XSDirect, but they're gone now :(

    He's 21 btw.
