Anti-Irish (and anti-immigrant) councillor elected in Northern Ireland

Jolene Bunting, a councillor for TUV (Traditional Unionist Voice), has been elected in Belfast. She's the first TUV councillor to be elected in the city. TUV, for those who aren't aware, are a unionist party who reject the Good Friday Agreement, the St Andrews Agreement and basically any agreement that allows Sinn Féin to be in government in Northern Ireland.

I can understand a unionist party resenting Sinn Féin being in government, given their raison d'être is to break the union between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

However, she seems to have a deep and troubling hatred for all things Irish. Some comments made on her Facebook page (admittedly from 2011 and 2012, before she was involved in the TUV, to the best of my knowledge) are startling to say the least. Bear in mind, everything has been transcribed as it was presented on her page, including spelling errors. To wit...

"I'm so sick of the poor catholic bastards they make me sick I wish they would jut go down to Ireland and then they can fly their flags and change the street sign down there its about time they realised that there are 6 county attached to their beloved Ireland that belongs to britain and always will !!!"

"ring asda [phone number given] an complain, they're selling st patrick day cards wi a big f-cking tri colour on them but wudnt sell dvds or prince williams wedding in case they offended anyone,took bread of shelves cause it had a wee union jack on it,pass this to all offended protestants."

She doesn't reserve her bile for Catholics or Ireland. Here's another update...

"Them f-ckers sent my Census form back!! In answer to one question, 'Do you have any dependants your paying for?', I put, 'MP's, , Asylym Seekers, gypos, smack heads, paedophilles, prisoner's, the cast of the Jeremy Kyle Show, Northern Rock, RBS, Greece, portugal, Ireland, and half of f-ckin Eastern Europe!....."

That someone with these views can get elected in 2014 is very worrying.

I see it as ironic that she doesn't like immigrants, yet she's most likely a descendent of a Scottish or British immigrant... :pac:

Shocking. Is there any precedence for this type of sectarianism in that part of the world? This seems very out of character for someone from any part of Northern ireland, regardless of their political persuasion. Usually so tolerant and openminded.

This person is not the first or last elected politician to speak with poor choices of words. In fact, she is quite tame to other nutters who once held the highest office in their countries such as Bush, Blair, Ahmadinejad, Milosevic and the like who rose to the top and based most of their political careers on hatred (Blair seemed to merely copy the US president regardless of how sane the US president was). Closer to home, this TUC view is merely just old Ian Paisley stuff regenerated.

Hating groups of people based on their religion or nationality is indefensible.

Hating an individual who expresses such hatred is a different matter.
