You can snack if you want , but it would be better not to. Fill up at meals- have a big breakfast. If you feel you need a snack some options would be hard boiled eggs, Greek yogurt ,berries, biltong, avocado with almond butter, macadamia nuts, 85% dark chocolate.

If he's overweight he should cut out spuds- easy- will have quicker results- you can have a dinner without them.

While this may be accurate, you don't need to drum a no carb agenda home in every single post you make and drag threads off topic by doing so. You get your say, everyone else gets theirs. Please try not to argue incessantly when you've already made the point. /mod

For a lot of people, change needs to be gradual. Too extreme can lead to reverting to poor choices. No carb may be a step too far for someone struggling with the basics of nutrition. it can be better to KISS. Keep It Simple, Stupid :)

Don't have a no carb agenda- never once said no carbs. Would be quite impossible- just am convinced we are better off without sugar and grains.

    Ok, good for you.
Thing is, going to that from a very bad diet immediately is not only hard, it's practically impossible.
Suggesting someone to do so is counter productive.

    Minivan,

from someone what at christmas was two stone heavier, but is now down two full dress sizes, my advice is take your time.

Change one meal at a time, introduce a proper training program. Basically cut down on what you know is bad and bring in exercise!!!!

On the very confusing and not helpful spud debate, I limit my crap carbs eg bread and potatoes, but have not cut them out.

The big problem we seem to have as a nation is not the spuds/bread but the volume we eat.

Good luck on your journey - mine is still in progress

Of course it would be hard - practically impossible is a stretch but it is hard because of the influences around us- all the temptations- eating out, supermarkets, ads, fast food etc. it might take time to get your head around it- but it is possible to get your head around it.

Yes, by slowly doing it and not immediately doing it. Which is what everyone is saying
You really are close to intolerable.

Right I'm going away next weekend so I'm putting a start date on this of the
2nd of June. No excuses it's set in stone.

Seems as this thread is gone a little haywire should I open a new one where I can update my progress on a daily/weekly. If so where would one do that?

Thanks for the advice so far:

On the potato debate when I realised I was getting chubby before I cut out my potato intake and rarely eat them or miss them. Bread is my problem and while I tried crackers for a while they were full of salt and probably just as bad as the white bread I was eating.

I'll limit the bread and go brown where possible from the second. If somebody could show me where to post a fitness log/diary kind of thing I'll link you when it's created. I'd appreciate it if you could subscribe to it as it will mean I'm accountable to you all and will make failure slightly less than if I was doing it on my own.

    Thanks all

    Until June 2nd

    Minivan

Supermarket Brown bread still contains all the bad things of white bread- it's little better. Make your food at home- don't buy bread. It's the truth but some people obviously don't like hearing it.

Minivan there is a thread in the Nutrition sub forum called 'General Weight Loss Support thread' and you can post your progress in there. Lots of support and others on the same journey in there . Might be the best place to post. Hopefully Bruno aka 'The Bread Man' won't follow ya in there :D
