All this Xabi love reminded me of our 'Best Midfield in the World' song and it got me wondering...

If you could have the best defence, best midfield or best attackers in the world in your team, which of the three would you prefer to have? This is assuming that the 'best' isn't subjective, and we don't need to start naming / comparing actual players, just looking at defence / midfield / attack as three distinct units.

I'd be tempted to go with Defence (Offence wins games, Defence wins Championships and all that) but then I used to be a goalie so I could be biased.

    What do you all think?

    J.
It's a bit of a rock, scissors, paper thing but...

I'd have a world class midfield, my thinking is a good DM can help out an average defence, and a world class AM can really add to the attack.
Plus if you can't work the ball through the midfield it may never reach your world class attack!

I do expect Madrid to come a knocking after the party is over.

Benzema stands out as the weak link in that side and I reckon he is toast.

I think we will be talking about £100million more so than Suarez in the very near future.

I'm not as knoledgeable as some of you guys but just thinking there seems to be a serious lack of quality strikers around europe.
If you had up to 50m to spend on a striker who would you get?

He wants to stay I have no doubt about that but 100m bid is impossible for the club and player to turn down. Benzema isn't good enough and being real they will look to replace him with the best out there. No better striker than suarez.

I think you're (your?...) right. Not a wealth of top strikers out there at the moment. Luckily Liverpool have two of the very best.

Well that's my point, if Real come in with 100m how will the owners look at it?

Will they say 'That's a great profit, we'll use it to strengthen the team'

    or
Will they say 'Suarez cannot be replaced, therefore we are not selling'

Their line last summer was the latter but i think if they are bid 100m they might not be able to turn that down.

100 million would be easy to turn down if Suarez is willing to stay - Liverpool would get 50 million a year for every decent tilt at the Champions League, that in turn boosts the sponsorship and TV, fills the expanding Anfield, attracts a better class of transfer.

Suarez would still fetch a very good price (if fit and healthy) as a 30 year old - perfect PSG fodder.

100m would not be turned down.

Also, 100m would not be bid for a start.

    It'd more like 60 - 70m I'd imagine.

I think we might see him here for another season as he seems happy but who knows.

I think the owners and transfer committee would asses the bid in terms of what is best for the club. Would that money used wisely improve the team?

It would difficult to argue that it would. Such is the contribution of Suarez.

I though suarez only scored against smaller teams and not against big teams, why would madrid want him.....

Sorry but 60 million for suarez is joke money when you see what bale went for and the transfers fees PSG are paying. 100m is the min he should be sold for.
These teams have set the marker when are player in the top 3 in the world is available they should be prepared to pay the market rate.

Suarez is 27 just entering his peak and is an amazing athlete. He is worth every penny of 100m.

I wouldn't like him to see him sold at all. I'm just saying there's not a hope in hell he'll be sold for 100m. No club will pay that. Well perhaps PSG after what they paid for Luiz !

    In how many games
don't know maybe 35-40 games. Generally he has played very well against the big teams.Like against Man Utd in 10/11 he disn't score but he was incredible in that game.Recently ppl have become too obsessed with Goals & Assists rather than a players overall performance.

Did he get all 3 assists that day?

I know you were joking, but the same sort of "logic" gets trotted out against pretty much the star player of any team when rival supporters want to have a pop.

Ronaldo has often had the "does not score in big games or against big teams" tag levelled against him many times.

Players like Robben used to get called flat track bullies when a great season was had.

Bale is a kick and run merchant who will get found out against top clubs.

The list goes on and on.

Basically I see it as rival supporters acknowledging just how damn good a player is, but trying to belittle the player rather than giving him credit.

The line is "he doesn't score against the big teams" though not "he doesn't play well".

That doesn't seem like a great ratio, and I think Ageuro's is far better against the big teams

It really has to be noted that Aguero has played alongside Yaya Toure, David Silva etc. for these games.

Suarez spent a fair chunk alongside Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing etc

Who gives a fack about goal ratios and what constitutes a big team etc etc, such a boring topic, Suarez is immense and that's the bottom line.

He should definitely give back his PFA award then. What do the players know who voted for him? Especially Samir Nasri who voted for Suarez ahead of Aguero.

Yeah when someone trots out the he doesn't do it against the big teams line you can generally chalk their opinion as pretty worthless on the matter.
