So you didn't vote for the person you believe has the best interest of the Irish people at heart?

I voted for the party who have the interests of the Irish people at heart and that was not FG ;)

Why would somebody hide who they voted for? Shame? Can't think of another reason.

Some SF supporters on here are understandably delighted at the gains SF have made in these elections, but there's a few things they should bear in mind.

Firstly, SF did not win the election, nor would they even be the official opposition if these results were replicated in a national election.

Secondly, the whole "we need to move on from the past" thing might turn out to be a double-edged sword, because this could be to FF's advantage. Haughey, Cowan, et al do not lead FF anymore, but Adams and McGuinness are still in charge of SF.

Also, the Dublin West result should give pause for thought - SF in the end came third, despite the high hopes for winning the seat.

SF have done well, but it's the Independents/Others that are the real winners tonight, without a shadow of a doubt.

SF were never the favourites for Dublin West. It's suprising Donnelly did as well as he did.

I never implied you voted for them, but C'mon, hypocrisy referring to the IRA as 'murdering scumbags' I mean the British army are certainly no shrinking violets.

becasue its my right as a non asshole citizen not to divulge all my constitutionally guarded rights to anonymity when casting my vote.

the fact that you cant understand the value of voting anonymity speaks volumes .

now jog on and post who YOU voted for on facebook , OK HUN XXXXXX

If you say that, I'll take your word for it.

But this is Donnelly speaking to An Phoblacht in April:
He said that Sinn Féin activists have been carrying out their own polls in Dublin West over the last number of weeks.
“Our figures, like those published in weekend newspapers, make it clear that Sinn Féin is the leading party on the Left. Our figures also tell us that we are ahead of both the Labour Party and the Socialist Party. To that end, we will vigorously contest this by-election to win.

Campaigning rhetoric aside, I think SF will be genuinely surprised to have been beaten by the Socialist Party candidate in these particular circumstances.

There's an appetite for change out there, but the Dublin West result shows that it doesn't automatically translate into enthusiasm for SF when there's another alternative.

So you are embarrassed, must be awful that, not being able to show who you support.
    Ah well...carry on.

You can take the bookies word for it, as she was literally the favourite.
Talking up his chances there. It was always going to be coppinger. The surprise is that he did as well as did.

No, I was taking your word as I'm sure you wouldn't make these things up - but having just checked the Paddy Power odds, I'm startled to see that Donnelly was 9-1!

It's a thread on politics, nobody else seems to have a problem saying who they support but the shinner bashers. Says a lot actually.

P.s. You won't lose your anonymity either. laughable excuse.

and considering they view that area of Dublin as a heartland its a cold reality that they did not take that seat.
as i have said , SF in local government people dont have a problem judging by the result , but nationally , not on your life , not while the old guard are still on the scene

we are destined to have some combo of FG/FF/LAB/IND for the foreseeable future

It's actually a thread about a convicted child killer canvassing for a politician.

again you are just assuming from nothing - pointless

and , as i have stated , i have no problem with SF but just because "nobody else" has a problem stating who they cast for , does not mean i have to , nor does it indicate what way i voted either way.

its just none of your business.

you are starting to look a little foolish now - go to bed

Interestingly, Paddy Power is offering odds-on for a FF/FG coalition government after the next election.

Which would presumably then make SF the official opposition.

I'm sure plenty of people will remember it come the general elections.
