Have never had big prob with docks but they are establishing in bunches in a grazing field,it was cleaned off the other day.....what is best spray suitable for 15 litre knapsack sprayer to treat them, what's best application rate/mix for that size of knapsack sprayer and should I leave them a month to regrow before treating.?

Same question for nettles...they are taking over a paddock inaccessible by tractor so will knapsack spray it,whats best spray and suitable mix for 15 litre tank,
    Many thanks for any advice,
Ps roughly what price are products for smallish bottle of spray.

Used hurler last week on a paddock full of docks and paddock of big buck thistles. Sprayed some nettles alwell. All bent over an hour after.
Think its 60e for 3l drum.
    2L/ha and 300-400 per 2l

Use Grazon in the knapsack to kill nettles

If using a knapsack then use it for docks too.

    Dockstar not recommended for knapsack

Dear though. Hurler 2/3 of price and does just as good a job and can go through knapsack

If I may hijack this thread, what would ye recommend for patches of nettles and thistles, again in inaccessible areas so have to use the knapsack sprayer?

Is Grazon or Hurler effective on thistles?

I need to kill the thorny b'stards before they flower/go to seed...

I reckon it's more got to do with the timing of the sprays rather than the product.

yep grazon will kill thistles too, takes a bit longer, double dose through the knacksack will riddle them and gets briars too

Normal or less dosage does the job for me, briars (spray the fresh growth), docks, nettles and thistles wilt in 24 hrs with napsack. Grazon all the way, was out with it this evening:D

people think that by upping the dosage they are doing the better work, however the opposite is true , the slower the leaves or foliage wilt allows the chemical to travel through the root system hence killing it

too strong a mix burns off the leaves quickly & whilst first impressions look good, long term control is disappointing

Thanks to everyone for their replies, suppose it would be as well to let the docks regrow from now till leaves are of decent size,
Will treat the nettles first dry spell of weather we get, will spray in evening when power is gone out of sun.

how long after spraying do you need to leave before cutting meadow,in order to be sure it has worked its way down into the root system

could be right but I increased the dose last year on the ditches and have not seen a briar, thistle or nettle since,

90ml Grazon to your 16Ltr Knapsack does the job.

1Ltr is about €60 and you should get 11 knapsacks out of it.

For anyone that's interested, I got 1 litre Grazon today for €49.99 in Mullins, Shrule, Co. Mayo, everywhere I checked last week was charging €60/litre. Every little helps ;)

I have no connection to the business.

Will it get rid of the problem altogether, or will you have to do the same next time

Scrubkiller is the same as grazon 90 apparently and is 34.95 in CG. Works well for me

Bought grazon 90 for €47 last week. Made myself up a little sprayer also as have miles of briars to tackle. 200 litre barrel, cheap 12v pump off Amazon, few metres of hose, lance from the knapsack, made a timber frame on top of a pallet that I carry on double spike behind the 35. Works a treat for about €50 spend.

I had it set up for the first time yesterday but forgot to take snaps.

I very loosely based it on this idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u30RKRdy1I4

With the fine weather we have, am going out to attack the docks and nettles some eve this week, docks have regrown nicely where they were cleaned off so should get good result hopefully ,I see 90ml Grazon per 16ltr Knapsack can seems good for Docks, presume that should sicken the nettles well too?

You will have more than enough for nettles, you will see the wilt in the morning, say your goodbyes to them as they wont be back next year.
