I'll try keep this as short as possible, so me and my mother were recently made homeless, she's unemployed an I'm only 16. So basically with the rents going up and not many landlords taking rent allowance there's not much we can do, we're staying at a friends at the moment but things are starting to get heated here, and we feel very uncomfortable, it's very embarrassing as this this not the life I am used to, does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Thanks

Focus Ireland would be a good starting point. And keep looking for flats! Do you have enough for a deposit?

Ah I don't really mind, I like to look on the bright side of life, she's got a deposit and is entitled to rent allowance, thing is no landlords will get back to get when she leave her number with them, someone else always gets the place, I have to go now as I'm on the bus on the way to stay in a B and B for the night, I'll talk to you's all tomorrow, thanks to everyone :)

Yeah. Unfortunatly the same cannot be said about the saloon, mine is a pre facelift and imo the post facelifted model looks way better, I only missed out on it by months as well :(.

Yuz should look at moving out to a different part of Ireland where they are only to happy to take your rent.
I know someone in your position who moved from Dublin to the country and they are getting on quiet well and enjoying the countryside with their children.

Try Simon. They have properties for people in need. I have given link for Dublin branch but there are others if you are in a different county.
Good luck with everything. I hope your situation gets better soon.

I was going to suggest the same.A flat at least shouldn't be a major problem with rent allowance.

I agree with Singledad here. I really hope you are okay. Don't try to take it all on your shoulders - you are only 16 and it must be very difficult for you.
My son is 16 and I would be very very proud if he was as brave and caring as you obviously are.
Please take care of yourself and do ask you Mum to get help from Threshold or Focus Ireland.
Best of luck - it will work out okay in the end.

Why is 'He posted in After Hours' an excuse to take the piss out of a serious situation to try, and fail, at being funny? The lad is homeless. Let that sink in.

This is just a general forum with certain threads being moved to their appropriate forums but it doesn't mean someone can't get genuine advice.

Christ, it was only (a fairly bad) joke. :(

FocusIreland and Simon are the best people to contact. Get down to your nearest welfare office and apply for local housing. Also the landlord cannot just turf you out either, best get in contact the PRTB and see what your options are there. Here is a link to help you out.

Thanks everyone, she's going to get a reference today for a new place, she's got no addiction problems (apart from smokes) very stressful as well with my junior in two weeks :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 883 ✭✭✭anto9

Plenty of places outside Dublin take RA. as stated before .Get your junior done first though.

Months ago I stupidly posted in a forum about BMW's, claiming I had one, it's my uncles, not mine, and I love the car

Bit off topic no? Nothing in the OP suggested she has addiction problems. Why do not you not pre-emptively list every support agency for every other problem she might come into? If she has cancer - there is probably a few places you can list too to help. Or Sex addiction - maybe give a link to "Sex Addicts Anonymous" or something?

They have been made homeless - nothing else.

He's being an arsehole at another person's expense - nothing new there.
